TRUMP SAYS HE'LL FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION BY EXECUTIVE ORDER
Trump wants to sign an order to end birthright citizenship, setting up a constitutional battle
Trump tells Axios he plans to sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship for babies of noncitizens and unauthorized immigrants born on U.S. soil.
The move would likely lead to a constitutional uproar.
Can the president amend the constitution by executive order?
In the period of time since the Constitution was written, many formal changes — known as amendments — have expanded the original document without altering its basic meaning.
Though the president cannot change the Constitution, he can use executive power and influence to make informal changes.

What if his Republican biased Supreme Court finds his executive order constitutional?
Trump now says he can end birthright citizenship with an executive order. Whether or not you believe in it (I vociferously do), it's long been recognized in law and jurisprudence as constitutionally mandated under the 14th Amendment's clear words. His claim to the power to change that unilaterally speaks to his willful, abysmal ignorance of history and civics, and the sycophancy of his followers and the Republican party. I would uneasily hope that even the Supreme Court on which Kavanaugh sits would reject this obscenity: a more direct assault on the rule of law in this country could hardly be imagined:
tRump, fundamentally changing America.
On the other hand can the nation withstand uncontrolled migration to our country and the resulting population growth?
Should the nation be having a RATIONAL discussion on immigration control and limits? If not why not?
Politics have no place in discussion on immigration. Reason and common sense does.
RN, rational discussions went by the way side ten years ago. You had one president say he was going to fundamentally change America and he was a hero and another say basically the same thing and he is a goat.
Politics is everything and reason and common sense mean nothing. We have needed a comprehensive immigration policy forever but politics get in the way. GWB tried to pass one but was stopped by his own party and his predecessor gave it lip service but had no interest in solving the problem just pushing it forward and blame the other party.
Here are Obama's EXACT words on "fundamentally transforming" America. He said NOTHING about changing the Constitution with an E.O. That's what Trump wants. Here is what Mr. Obama said in 2008:
I just have two words for you tonight: five days. Five days. After decades of broken politics in Washington, and eight years of failed policies from George W. Bush, and 21 months of a campaign that's taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California, we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.
"In five days, you can turn the page on policies that put greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street. In five days, you can choose policies that invest in our middle class, and create new jobs, and grow this economy, so that everyone has a chance to succeed, not just the CEO, but the secretary and janitor, not just the factory owner, but the men and women on the factory floor."
Fundamentally transform America so that everyone gets a chance to be the best he or she can be. The Goopers always leave out the second paragraph, which has nothing to do with changing the Constitution.
Trump wants to change the Constitution. Mr. Obama did not.
Skud said... "GWB tried to pass one but was stopped by his own party"
This is the truest thing you've ever said here.
When the chance was finally brought to the front, in a bi-partisan way, the GOP refused to move on it. The same GOP that let it be known to Presidents Obama and Clinton, that they would not move on their plans either.
It is the GOP and not the Dems who have stonewalled on immigration reform because it is a much more potent issue for their base. Of course Skud, it's all politics, but on immigration, the Dems would gladly join into comprehensive immigration reform, just like they did with the Reagan Admin.
Shaw... a little correction.
Trump does not want to change the Constitution... he wants to rip it up. We have a process to transform it. It's called an amendment. If he wants to repeal the 14th, he can use the Constitutional process.
I am sure all those who decried President Obama using EOs and who daily say the Dems hate the Constitution will be all over this, denigrating Trump. After all, they are very consistent in their outrage aren't they?
Dave One take-away from many during the Scourge of Trump Era is that we understand what hypocrites and unserious Constitutionalists the far right is. They've sold their soiled souls to the Devil, all for the privilege of putting babies and children in cages.
