General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

Friday, October 14, 2022

Secret Service received this warning 11 days before the J6 attack: “Their plan is to literally kill people. Please, please take this tip seriously and investigate further.”

That heading is alarming, but there are people in America who think inflation and gas prices are more serious than a POTUS who lied about the 2020 election and schemed to hang onto the presidency he LOST. There are people who don't care about the end of democracy and will ignore the facts that came out of yesterday's J6 Committee hearing.

Here are more facts that should scare us all:

"The committee also found tape of Roger Stone, another Trump confidant, declaring on the day before the election, “I really do suspect it’ll still be up in the air, but when that happens the key thing to do is to claim victory. Possession is nine-tenths of the law." He added, “I said f--k the voting, let’s get right to the violence.”

And this:

"Plus, although the committee was unable to retrieve deleted texts exchanged among Secret Service agents on Jan. 6, there is considerable evidence that the Secret Service and others had been warned of violence. One source told the Secret Service that the Proud Boys wanted to 'literally kill people,' adding, 'Please please take this tip seriously and investigate further.'

It defies credulity that the Secret Service or intelligence committee would conceal this from Trump. Indeed, the agency scrambled to prevent Trump from going to the Capitol on Jan. 6."

Donald Trump’s supporters had come to kill.

The White House knew it. President Trump knew it. And yet he knowingly sent armed fanatics to the Capitol with murder on their minds, then he sat back and watched for hours the violence they unleashed.

"So trump’s stolen election lie was planned months before the election. And how about the unexpected, post-election order to withdraw from Somalia and Afghanistan! Nancy was begging for assistance. The GOP lies exposed! Thank you for your dedicated work @January6thCmte! Now we know."

Glenn Kirschner @glennkirschner I had the pleasure of attending today’s J6 committee hearing, and you know what I saw? I saw proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Donald Trump committed several federal felonies. Time for accountability. #TimeToIndict.

Donald Trump knew he lost 2020 election but was willing to burn down American democracy on Jan. 6, 2021 out of spite, while Nancy Pelosi & Chuck Schumer stood their ground seeking assistance from National Guard & local law enforcement to defend Capitol.
Trump should be arrested.

The Trumpers are angry because they do not like what has come out of the J6 hearings. The TRUTH, THAT TRUMP & Republicans TRIED to overthrow OUR Government. The GOP party is CORRUPT, FULL OF LIARS &TRAITORS. They all had a part in this and have proven they are Party over Country.

This just gets crazier and crazier. But I'm going to be surprised if anything actually happens to tRUMP. That's how crazy this all is.

It seems very likely that Trump will be indicted in not too much longer, certainly long before the 2024 election process gets under way. Garland does need to proceed carefully. The worst outcome of all would be a rushed, bungled prosecution that Trump's lawyers could get him out of, so that he could claim vindication. Justice, and the neutralization of the threat he represents to the country, can only be served by a conviction.

After losing, Trump withdrew our troops from critical areas like Afghanistan and Somalia

1) He knew he lost & it was over

2) He wanted to screw Biden over & sabotage his foreign policy

He used American soldiers as pawns

He would rather see the world burn than be out of power

A conviction will not necessarily change or neutralize the threat tRump represents. It may instead escalate the hate on the right and result in providing the juice to further inflame the ignorance of the trumpers. Resulting in elevated violence.

tRump should be held accountable. He should be barred from ever serving in any federal capacity again. Elective or otherwise.

Regardless of what is or is not ultimately done one should understand that the folks who invested deeply in the authoritarianism of tRump will continue to believe the bunk their cult leader fed them.

America will continue in crisis. Regardless.

Paula, I may be wrong but I believe it was biden who withdrew our troops from Afghanistan and trump ordered the completion of the withdrawal of Somalia before biden took office. I don't remember the withdrawal from Somalia to be a cluster with no planning but perhaps you can set me straight.

Infidel, So far nearly 2 years of investigation so I doubt it will be a rushed prosecution. It may not be able to be drug out for another 18 months like the democrats hope for but rushed is not a term anyone would use.

Is there evidence that Trump ordered the Secret Service, FBI, or any security force to not act on this information? Authorities act on evidence of a possible crime all the time to prevent crime and they don't ask the president of the United States first. So why didn't these authorities just act on the tips they received?

Infidel... Trump may indeed be indicted, but convicted? Doubtful, no matter how much care AG Garland exercises.

Pick a date, any date and let's assume a trial is set. That date, sometime in 2023, will be filled with months of pre trial motions and yes, from the Trump side, attempts to delay.

Some of those motions and delays will no doubt be litigated to the Supreme Court.

That will take months and likely stretch deep into 2024, a very real possibility given the snail like pace of the federal court system. Now consider their desire to carefully weigh the options for prosecuting a former president of the United States, so that our system cannot be accused of a rush to judgement and to appear fair to all of America and how long that will take.

In a best case scenario, we are looking at sometime around the 2024 elections and a likely Trump candidacy.

If that happens and the plug is not pulled by a GOP electoral landslide and a resultant GOP Attorney General, it seems improbable that any jury will not have at least one sympathetic voice for Trump.

And we will be left with this...

The very system that many champion, that we celebrate because of how hard it is to get unanimous verdicts, will likely return a hung jury.

And the GOP and Trump's supporters will crow with "I told you so" and "Witch hunt" while the Dems will complain about a biased justice system, an unfair electoral system and America splits apart.

Unless some of our politicians from both sides can somehow step up to statesmen status and figure our a way to avoid this.

Dave,

Very good assessment of how it could happen.

But what it shows me is that in America, if you're rich and famous, you can get away with trying to overthrow the United States government. Of course if Jane or John Doe did it, she/he would be in prison by now.

There is no EQUAL JUSTICE for all.

Les Carpenter said...

Exactly. Just as it has been for years. And, likely will continue to be.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... of course the rich and famous get different from our justice system. Look at OJ. Without his money, he'd be in jail. It had nothing to do with guilt. It was all about the lawyer he could hire.

And it's been that way since our inception.

skudrunner said...

There is no such thing as equal justice under the law just as there is no such thing as speedy trial. There is such thing as money talks in all phases of life. Why did ted kennedy not get tried for manslaughter, money, how did OJ get off, money and why do people remain on death row for decades, money. We have a government run by lawyers who will make sure their profession prospers

Les Carpenter said...

Well skud, as cynical as those sentiments are they are also factual.

Justice served in America is more about status, how wealthy you are, and who you know than actually acheiving justice. Which of course is not how the system should work. Justice should be blind to race, color, wealth, influence, status, religious beliefs, or anything else except EVIDENCE and provable FACTS. As well as what the law says relative to the EVIDENCE and those provable FACTS.

It is highly unlikely this will change. Fir if it did the Orange Blob will certainly be resting in a federal pen for the remainder of his filthy life.
