From USA Today: Let's review: Trump keeps threatening to violate a deal he negotiated with Canada and Mexico in 2020, then kind of backing off, then using the international economic controversy to attack American allies.
The driving message here: Trump is erratic and hostile for no discernable reason other than that is just his personality.
Nanos called Trump "an accelerant" who shifted the focus of the next election from who could repair Canada to who could resist Trump. The Conservative Party at the end of 2024 had a 27 percentage point lead over the Liberal Party and appeared ready to seize a huge majority in the House of Commons, according to Nanos Research.
And now? The pollster said that lead "has completely evaporated," and that while the Conservatives are still ahead in the polling, the lead rests within the margin of error.
Just a few months ago, Canada’s governing Liberal Party seemed poised for a resounding 2025 election defeat.
Opinion polls showed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party trailing the opposition Conservatives by as many as 26 percentage points.
And then came the Trump Effect: #ETTD!
Trump decided to make a fool of himself by intimidating Canadians and threatening to invade and take their country. He kept referring to Canada's Prime Minister as Governor Trudeau and calling Canada the 51state. How did that work out for the bungling idiot Orange Tyrant? EPIC FAIL.
The new Canadian Prime Minister should refer to Trump as The Felon of the United States. At least THAT is accurate!
Who do you think voted in this "election"? Liberal Party members. Who'd they vote for? The richest outsider in the party. "Oligarchy comes to Canada" would have been a better title for your post.
NYTimes: "He [Carney] will soon face off against Mr. Poilievre, a career politician who commanded a double-digit lead over the Liberals in opinion polls just a few months ago.
But Mr. Trump’s bellicosity has upended the race. Mr. Poilievre has been hurt by a perception that he is ideologically aligned with the U.S. president, and surveys show that voters believe Mr. Carney is a better choice to take him on.
Mr. Poilievre, who had been relentlessly accusing Liberals of having “broken” Canada, has now shifted to a “Canada First” message as he seeks to distance himself from Mr. Trump."
Even the Conservatives in Canada don't want the stench of Trump anywhere near them.
Canada's future is theirs to decide. They shouldn't fear Donald Trump. He is a relic of a mythic past in which America was supposedly greater than it is today.
Americans are not of a mind to conquer anyone, or to force a staunch ally into submission. We have our own domestic problems. Including the election of a tin horn brute more than half the country doesn't want.
We may become Canada's 11th Province. Need to learn words to 'Oh Canada', Trumpian diplomacy, treat our northern neighbor just like Ukraine. Treat Putin as a brother. Rebuild our shattered government in his own image. Mirror mirror on the wall whose the smartest CRASH. Dang.
I know the words to "O Canada," since the late Mr. Shaw Kenawe was a hockey player (the only physics major @MIT who played hockey for the Institute in an OUTDOOR rink! They have an indoor one now!) and played many games in Canada. He loved the game and Canadians. As do I. The Boston Broonz fans have always had a friendly (well, somewhat) competition with The Habs (Montreal Canadiens). We used to sing the Canadian anthem along with Rene Rancourt each time they played the Broonz in the Gahden!
"...it [the Conservative lead] is a lead that is less than half the size of what it was when Justin Trudeau announced his resignation at the beginning of the year. While the Conservatives are still heavily favoured to win the most seats, the odds that they could secure a majority government are little better than a coin flip."
If Trump keeps up his threats to annex Canada as the 51st state, he'll ensure a loss for the conservatives, since no Canadian wants the stench of Trump over their land.
=FJ opined... "If you held an election of all Canadians. The Liberal Party would be toast."
True or false, who knows. I don't follow Canadian politics much. But I do know this, following your theme...
If you held an election of all Americans, the GOP would be toast.
While we're on the idea of the majority, a majority of Americans support...
Access to abortion with limits. Strong Social Security. Higher wages. Infrastructure investment. Term limits on elected officials. A balanced budget. A Strong military. NATO. Sensible immigration policy. Limits on gun ownership.
The general population of Canada is all in on boycotting anything American. There are photos of grocery stores where they are practically giving away American strawberries, yet no one is buying them. My dad was born in Saskatchewan, so I'm currently working on getting my dual citizenship. My sister already received her certificate. Can. Not. Wait!!!
My first grandchild was born in Canada, and so I visited there quite often and loved every visit. The Canadians are exceptional people. My dearest sister who passed away in 2015 was married to a wonderful man who grew up in Sunnybrae, Nova Scotia.
What kind of madness would cause Trump to make our northern neighbors our enemies? Greed? Trump has no moral compass, no morals at all, so the only motive I can think of is greed. We certainly know he's a greedy lying cheat and fraud.
Good luck on getting your Canadian citizenship and possibly moving to a sane country.

Canada prefers not to be led by ignorance and delusion. Unlike the USA today.
A Liberal won the Liberal nomination for Prime Minister... what a shocker!

WRONG AGAIN!
Politically, Most Canadians See Themselves at or Near Centre
Carney, a Liberal, won 85% of the vote.

Twice nothing is still nothing! Let there be real votes!

A physics major that could skate backwards at 50 mph! I'm learning from this

That was terrific harmony!
Tesla stock - explode one, then a couple of rockets. Blame Biden.
