The WSJ, that bastion of liberal thought (NOT!), had this to say about Trump's stupid trade wars:
HOW DO YOU LIKE THE TRADE WAR NOW?
Trump is furious that Canada won't take his tariffs lying down.
"President Trump wanted a trade war with the world, and Americans are getting it, good and hard. Stock prices continued to decline on Tuesday amid the latest Canada-U.S. tariff tit-for-tat. By the end of the day the two sides were talking about a temporary truce, but who knows which side of the tariff bed Mr. Trump will wake up on Wednesday.

"Or when Mr. Trump behaves as if his manhood is implicated because a foreign nation won't take his nasty border taxes lying down. We said from the beginning that this North American trade war is the dumbest in history, and we were being kind.
Trump is a weak man.
Here he was yesterday selling Musk's cars in front of America's White House because his Nazi-saluting pal's Tesla stock was tanking. A more disgraceful act I've never seen in a president in my life. Selling cars!
Would you buy a used car from this convicted felon?
A car salesman is sitting in America's Oval Office (whether what he's doing is legal or not, Trump doesn't care. He doesn't follow the laws of the United States, he's a convicted felon):

Actually, I wouldn't by a new truck or car from the Felon of the USA.
Come to think of it, wouldn't buy a bible, a steak, a bottle of wine, or a godamn thing from the orange POS.
Shaw quoted this from the WSJ editorial... "We said from the beginning that this North American trade war is the dumbest in history, and we were being kind"
Once valued allies now feel differently about the US. They are seeking, some for the first time, markets other than the US for their products. How will that benefit our economy?
Pres Trump has said about the USMCA... “Every aspect that you could imagine they took advantage of... I looked at some of these agreements, I’d read them at night and I’d say, ‘Who would ever sign a thing like this?’ "
Trump also said this, after he signed the USMCA, which he now trashes daily...
"The USMCA is the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement we have ever signed into law. It’s the best agreement we’ve ever made..."
How is any of this good for the US, good for our North American alliance?
The simple answer is, it is not.
I know, from reading our friends at the Mothership that they love to keep their heads stuck in the sand and either ignore news and information completely, because they already know it all, or spend their time mostly watching Fox, OAN and NewsMax.
This keeps them mostly in fact free zones, so they will never be forced to deal with, or face up to the reality and incongruence of Trump's statements above.
Trump is openly calling the person who signed the USMCA an idiot, and hoping folks like the Mothership sailors who support him as the savviest deal maker the US Presidency has ever seen, don't remember that he's the idiot who signed that agreement.
Rising unemployment, higher inflation, a trade war with allies, a shrinking economy, confused allies and more... all brought to you by the GOP, President Trump and people like Skud, -FJ, Joe Con and others who not only mostly support and trust Trump, but also whole heartedly support his elected enablers in Congress.

What more proof does any American need to understand that Trump is either the dumbest man to ever sit in the Oval Office or that Trump is suffering from dementia. How could he not know that he signed the USMCA?
One other guess is that Trump DOES know he signed it, but he's counting on his uninformed, misinformed, and zombie followers to not notice or give a flying donut about his 180 degree change.
In any case, we, the informed, are going to suffer, and Trump's cultists will as well, but they'll continue to pretend he's doing a great job in destroying America here and in the eyes of the world.
"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it, good and hard." --HL Menken
The Mother Ship's sailors fit that description to a T, for Trump! They deserve him and everything they're getting from him.
Miaπ❤️π @mommamia.bsky.social
I’m watching my retirement evaporate and Donald Trump is doing Tesla commercials for his buddy at the White House.
If only Donald Trump cared about the finances of common American citizens.
Trump is worried that multi-billionaire's Tesla's stock is tanking and Musk may lose a couple billion dollars, but still be the richest man on the planet.
I, and the person called Mia, lose bigly from our IRA, and we'll be out on the street.
Trump does not care about the middle class or the poor. When will they get that through their cement skulls?
Shaw... they do deserve it, but we suffer alongside our fellow, albeit uninformed or willfully ignorant, Americans.
You're welcome!
Buy American!
Yes -FJ... we know you support the tariffs. But I doubt, in your own words, you can explain why we need them, or even what Trump is trying to accomplish.
But maybe you can.
Can you rise to the challenge? Can you explain to us and others like Z, Mal and Baysider, what good is there to be found in their 401K's and retirement accounts losing in some cases, hundreds of thousands of $$$ in value in weeks of actions from Trump?
I doubt you can because you've never been one to write or explain, in your own words, anything. ANYTHING. AT. ALL.
But I'm willing to be persuaded.
Trump's merch is primarily made in China or other countries! You silly, silly man! LOL!
"The ABC News 4 crew walked around outside a rally in North Charleston Friday, lifting the tags on several items. Many read made in China, in the Dominican Republic, in Haiti and in Honduras but not in the USA."
It bothered me when Canada backed off their tariff. They should have one upped him and gone to 75%.
Ask Shaw why you never see my replies...
Watching the idiocy consuming the rightwing zealots of the MAGA con is amusing. Once reality catches up to them and they're suffering the results of their misdirected loyalty to a felon and con man it will be left to liberals and progressivex to save them.
Unlike the Felon of the USA and Chainsaw Elon liberals and progressives won't kick conservatives to the curb. And, they might even see the light as a result.
Smart interview yesterday with Pres Trump. The reporter asked about his inconsistencies with the imposition of tariffs. His response? "I have a right to be flexible. It's not inconsistency, it's called flexibility."
Somedays, okay, most days, I wish reporters asked better questions.
We still have no annunciation of an actual policy behind the tariffs, and perhaps, never will. Because there is no policy beyond his seeming desire to show off his power.
A few more thoughts on tariffs...
From Bret Stephens, conservative writer at the NY Times...
"It used to be common knowledge — not just among policymakers and economists but also high school students with a grasp of history — that tariffs are a terrible idea. The phrase “beggar thy neighbor” meant something to regular people, as did the names of Senator Reed Smoot and Representative Willis Hawley. Americans broadly understood how much their 1930 tariff, along with other protectionist and isolationist measures, did to turn a global economic crisis into another world war. Thirteen successive presidents all but vowed never to repeat those mistakes.
Until Donald Trump. Until him, no U.S. president had been so ignorant of the lessons of history. Until him, no U.S. president had been so incompetent in putting his own ideas into practice."
From B. Riley Wealth Mgmt...
"This market is just blatantly sick and tired of the back and forth [flexibility as Trump call it] on trade policy"
Walmart is seeing "stress behavior" among budget minded consumers. Delta Airlines has lowered expectations due to decreased domestic travel demand and "increased macro [financial] uncertainty" Kohl's is saying consumers making less that 50K are "pretty constrained from a discretionary [income] standpoint."
Americans are a resilient ppl. If we have to suffer some to move ahead, we will. If leaders tell us what the plan is, what we are trying to accomplish. We sent thousands of Americans to Europe to defeat Hitler because we saw it as "saving" the world and democracy.
We had a reason.
Now, we get nothing. Nothing from our elected GOP leaders, the President, conservative bloggers like -FJ and Joe Con, nothing.
Can anyone at all tell us why we need the tariffs that are causing so much market turmoil?
Anyone at all?
Don't need to ask, I already know our multi named troll why much of what you write on this site is found on the cutting room floor. I'm not speaking for Shaw only observing why I'd be axing you if this were my site (which it's not):
A - it takes you five thousand words to say a thing when ten words are more accurate
B - your known use of obscure philosophers who've yet to say what you think they say
C - Your constant habit of straying off topic, hijacking topics to focus on your pet ideologies.
D - there are more but then I'd be straying off topic.
But hey, keep playing the victim troll. You do it so well.
Listening to Belle of the Ranch. With #47's trade war with the world, instead of getting a share of weapons orders for manufacturing here in the States (as it's been done in the past) all of the funds and focus are now aimed at the EU. They are building their own factories so they can manufacture their own weapons and we pushed them into these actions.
Per Belle, it is likely that when Trump said he wanted the EU to up their defense spending it was with the expectation that the USA would get the contracts and associated profits. Now? Yeah, he shot the US in the foot on this issue. This is a bell that cannot be unrung and the USA will lose trillions in revenue.
Great job MAGA. Are we first yet?
Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
The Felon of the USA is working hard to realize the latter.
Naaaah! She just hates being refuted, or seeing any of her fans being refuted.
Nah, Joe Con, it is YOU who's been refuted! LOL! Remember your certainty that Durham Report was going to expose fraud; it didn't. Remember the recounts in Arizona and Wisconsin that you were sure would show Trump won? They didn't. Remember your claims about Ruby Freeman and her daughter that they had suitcases filled with fake ballots? LIES, LIES, LIES. Just ask Giuliani about it.
I run this blog and allow you and your other personas to comment here. Unlike the Captain of the Mother Ship, I do allow other points of view here. This isn't an echo-chamber like the sclerotic blog she runs.
