ITALIANS REJECT MELONI'S POWERGRAB ON THE JUDICIARY

This interested me because Trump celebrated Meloni's election as a sign of Italy's embracing of the far right.

Is Trump paying attention to what just happened in Italy and the referendum on giving Meloni more control over the judicial system?

Italians Reject Judicial Overhaul, Undermining Meloni

Some 54 percent of voters spurned a government plan to change how jurists are supervised. It presented Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with her biggest domestic challenge since her election in 2022.

AND THIS:

"BREAKING: Italians REJECT their right-wing PM's powergrab in a referendum, a stunning revolt against a Trump ally everyone thought had iron-clad support.

In a referendum demanding PM Giorgia Meloni have more personal control of the judicial system she basically labeled as too woke, she lost with 54 percent of the vote, with an unexpectedly high turnout surging to 59 percent.

This is a truly historic and crushing political defeat, as it changes the entire political landscape -- a once untouchable leader may now lose her position in government.

This was not just a policy difference. It was a direct rejection of her leadership.

She lost badly in major cities. Rome voted 57 percent "No". Milan 54 percent. Naples delivered a devastating 71 percent rejection.

In Naples, judges and prosecutors celebrated in the streets, singing Bella Ciao, the anti fascist anthem. Protesters flooded Rome chanting resign, resign.

Meloni had framed this as an historic opportunity to change Italy. She warned of more negligent judges and criminals being freed. Voters didn’t buy it.

The backlash is immediate. Matteo Renzi called her a lame duck and said even her own followers will now start to doubt her. Elly Schlein said we will beat her in the next general election. Giuseppe Conte declared a new political season has begun.

Meloni aligned herself with Trump, who is deeply unpopular in Italy, and tied her agenda to fear and division. Italians rejected it outright.

Her grip on power is slipping. The myth of her invincibility is over. And now the opposition knows she can be beaten." --U.S. Democratic Socialists

They're smarter in Italy than we in the USA, obliviously.

Or maybe it will just take more time for the supporters of the malignant narcissist trump to fully wake up.

In Mexico last year, voters themselves took control of the judiciary. In a recent election, voters rejected a lonstanding system similar to what the US has. In the recent past, a president nominated a person and an INDEPENDENT judicial review board, not associated with any political party, vetted him or her and approved or denied the nomination.

However, the last administration, under Lopez Abrador [AMLO], he kept trying to push through new laws the judiciary said violated the Constitution of Mexico. To solve the problem, rather than make laws in accordance with the Constitution, AMLO called a national election, convinced people that the judiciary was not allowing him to institute his agenda to help them, and the people changed the system. A system international observers had said finally had broken the back of political cronyism in Mexico that maintained one party rule for over 70 years.

Sound familiar?

The new system? A direct vote of the people for all federal judicial posts.

There are no more pre election ratings of judges, their qualifications or anything that may smack of "control outside the executive branch".

Now we are back to essentially the same system whereby the PRI had maintained control for decades. Except now that control is in the hands of the Morena Party.

All because an elected president believed he had a right to implement into law the policies he promised his supporters. Regardless of what the Constitution said.

Personal Liberty and Equal Representation has been forced to take the far back seat in every culture and country in which authoritarianism and rule by personality and one party had existed.

America has been trending down that path every since the election of RWR in 1980. With growing intensity and propaganda ever since.

donald j. trump, Project 2025, and Christian Nationalism are merely the natural result of a societies declining academic achievement, willing acceptance of populist propaganda, and the feeling that the government doesn't work for the people anymore.

The power hungry and the very wealthy oligarchs, who are essentially controlling the country, saw the opportunity to further enrich themselves and their cronies and tool full advantage of America's discontent.

This backward slide into authoritarianism is not yet over. The propagandized MAGAs and Christian Nationalists will double and triple down on their outdated and false beliefs. Fighting tooth and nail to move America back to the 1950's and even further back in time from a social perspective.

The election of President Barack Obama gave the white Christian privileged class the infusion it needed to accelerate its bigoted and racist authoritarian agenda. donald j. trump, The Heritage Foundation, Project 2025, and MAGA are simply the results of an accumulation of lies presented by republicans to the American people over the prior 46 years. If not longer.

Only the universe knows when the extreme madness of MAGA trump and his cult party will subside and finally end. But the ride from now until then is going to be very rough. Especially for those who lack the luxury if the ruling oligarchs and trump.

Since the 2024 presidential election, Democrats have flipped more than two dozen seats in Republican or battleground states — including ones in Arkansas and New Hampshire earlier this month — while the Republicans have not captured any Democratic seats.

This is EXACTLY why the authoritarian "Christian" Nationalist republican party, run by donald trump and Moses johnson are pressing so damn hard for the vote suppressing "Save" America BS.

Venezuela revamped their judiciary, too. Chavez stacked the Courts with kronies (implemented FDR's Court stacking plan)

The Republicans, under the leadership of Mitch McConnell, denied former President Obama his right to nominate and have a supreme court justice confirmed. In February 2016, Justice Scalia died, and McConnell claimed it was too close to an election to nominate a justice, when the election was nine months away. But when Justice Ginsberg died in Sept. 2020, some people had already begun to vote, and McConnell allowed Trump to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to the SCOTUS.

That was shockingly deceitful way for the Republicans to stack the SCOTUS to their advantage.

The Republicans are devious, and their hypocrisy is monumental.
