Saturday Night Supper

Here's a traditional Cape Cod,Yankee Saturday night supper:

Cod fish cakes made with mashed potatoes, onions, bread crumbs, and egg wash to hold them together. Dip them in plain bread crumbs and saute in butter/olive oil.  Serve with home made Boston baked beans and cole slaw.  (I made the dressing for the cole slaw with a little mayonnaise and with more yogurt dressing.)  This dish is a real Bostonian/Cape Codder supper.  I would have preferred a Sam Adams seasonal beer, but we had to make do with a light chardonnay.  Sam Adams would have been better.

Dave, I love learning new words in Spanish. I work with immigrants who are learning English as a second language. Most of our students are from Latin America. They are delightful, and because I have knowledge of Italian and French, I can do fairly well with what little Spanish I know. Our students range from abuelas to young men in their teens. They are all dedicated and earnest in wanting to learn English.

Supper sound and looks delicious. Wish I had a plate to go with my Sam Adams Rebel IPA.

Spanish is so interesting, depending on where your from...

Like a tortilla...

In Mexico, it's a tortilla, but in other places, it's a cake.

Even within Mexico where I serve, words vary for the same item... especially when you add in slang...

I'm only fairly fluent in spanish, but if I'm watching a movie in either italian or portuguese, I can do pretty well.

My french that I took in high school is pretty much gone these days...

If it weren't for the students I work with, I would never have discovered this delightful food.
