Trump Promised to Be an Amazing Tyrant!

The TeaPublican's Candidate

The guy who's leading in the TeaPublican polls for the job as Commander in Chief explained to a Fox News moderator at the debate on Thursday that he would have no problem giving illegal orders to the military. When told that those illegal orders will be disobeyed, Trump doubled down and threatened that he would make the military obey his orders -- "If I say, ‘Do it,’ they’re going to do it.”

Extremists in the GOP spent the last 7 1/2 years telling everyone who would listen that President Obama is destroying America, that he is shredding the Constitution, and that he's a tyrant; but when confronted with a man who actually promises to behave like a tyrant and commit illegal acts when he's elected president, that makes the TeaPublicans love him even more, sending thrills up their collective legs.

After the Digby link, you can read the "Vulgar Talking Yam" telling America how he will act as a tyrant, breaking international and national laws in order to impress his low-information supporters on how much of a strongman he'll be when he's elected dictator president:

From Digby:

The party in a lather over Hillary Clinton's email server is poised to nominate a candidate who last week boasted he would issue criminal orders to the military, orders that violate their oaths as soldiers and his own as president. "If I say, ‘Do it,’ they’re going to do it,” he assured us. William Saletan writes, "This wasn’t a gaffe. It was a casual promise of dictatorship."

BAIER: Mr. Trump, just yesterday, almost 100 foreign policy experts signed on to an open letter refusing to support you, saying your embracing expansive use of torture is inexcusable. General Michael Hayden, former CIA director, NSA director, and other experts have said that when you asked the U.S. military to carry out some of your campaign promises, specifically targeting terrorists’ families, and also the use of interrogation methods more extreme than waterboarding, the military will refuse because they’ve been trained to turn down and refuse illegal orders. So what would you do, as commander-in-chief, if the U.S. military refused to carry out those orders?

TRUMP: They won’t refuse. They’re not going to refuse me. Believe me.

 BAIER: But they’re illegal.

TRUMP: Let me just tell you, you look at the Middle East. They’re chopping off heads. They’re chopping off the heads of Christians and anybody else that happens to be in the way. They’re drowning people in steel cages. And he — now we’re talking about waterboarding. This really started with Ted, a question was asked of Ted last — two debates ago about waterboarding. And Ted was, you know, having a hard time with that question, to be totally honest with you. They then came to me, what do you think of waterboarding? I said it’s fine. And if we want to go stronger, I’d go stronger, too, because, frankly... (APPLAUSE) ... that’s the way I feel. Can you imagine — can you imagine these people, these animals over in the Middle East, that chop off heads, sitting around talking and seeing that we’re having a hard problem with waterboarding? We should go for waterboarding and we should go tougher than waterboarding. That’s my opinion.

BAIER: But targeting terrorists’ families? (APPLAUSE)

TRUMP: And — and — and — I’m a leader. I’m a leader. I’ve always been a leader. I’ve never had any problem leading people. If I say do it, they’re going to do it. That’s what leadership is all about.

BAIER: Even targeting terrorists’ families?

TRUMP: Well, look, you know, when a family flies into the World Trade Center, a man flies into the World Trade Center, and his family gets sent back to where they were going — and I think most of you know where they went — and, by the way, it wasn’t Iraq — but they went back to a certain territory, they knew what was happening. The wife knew exactly what was happening. They left two days early, with respect to the World Trade Center, and they went back to where they went, and they watched their husband on television flying into the World Trade Center, flying into the Pentagon, and probably trying to fly into the White House, except we had some very, very brave souls on that third plane. All right? (APPLAUSE)

BAIER: Senator Cruz, you were mentioned.

TRUMP: I have no problem with it. ("It" refers to torture.)

Shortly after Trump promised America that he'd be a great Tyrant/Dictator, he must have realized (or more probable, someone told him) that forcing the military to commit international crimes is not part of an American president's duties nor oath of office. So in his usual manner, Trump walked back that astonishing promise, showing us all, once again, that he knows diddley-squat about the Constitution, and he has no core values except the value of promoting himself.

Good luck with that, TeaPublicans.

From PmCarpenter's blog:

[The New Yorker's David] Remnick's assessment of Donald Trump's greased skids is spot on. Trump is unquestionably the product of decades-long, Republican, racist, populist fear mongering. I question, however, Remnick's implied fear of it — in 2016.

This isn't the New Right's electorate, or Reagan's electorate, or even George W. Bush's electorate. The electoral power of Angry White Guys & Friends just isn't there. And as long as the ethnically diverse "New Left" doesn't go nuts with vastly overstated simplicities of its own (which, being leftist, and as premature as the right's were ripe, will only spook the center and drive it again to the right), then the left is slated to mathematically crush the Trumps of 2016.

This election year has proven one thing to me. That being that Karma is a real thing. After all, Trump is really only the end product of the right wings' long trudge through the muck of racial politics, fear-based foreign affairs and rampant attacks on science and education. The right applauded, some more loudly than others, when Trump and others started calling the duly elected president-elect a "Kenyan" a "secret Muslim" "Manchurian Candidate", etc. etc. etc. They took a ministers' justifiable outrage over our policies in the Middle East and turned them into a racial slur and an attack on the patriotism of a former Marine named Rev. Wright. Heck, they still think that's a valid attack! Did any of them say 'stop this nonsense. It's wrong, it's racist and it's unAmerican!"? Even one of them? Nope. They snickered, they made crude, juvenile racist jokes, they put the First Families pictures on the body of apes and they reinforced to the racists out there that this was okay. Well, now they have to live with what they created - Trump - and it's destroying their party. Great! Karma works....

yes, the moral majority have become very immoral these days.

Trump supporters are OK with illegal and/or constitutional acts as long as they are things that they agree with, and when they are done to "those" people.

You're forgetting that President Obama is a dictator because of Obamacare.

I imagine we'll see some cracks in Trump's armor tomorrow.

The downside is that if favors Cruz who is a more frightening prospect.

Maybe Ducky... it would be a huge shift to see Cruz overtake Trump and Little Marco in Michigan. Things I've seen say kasich is the one gaining there.

But let's remember... Santorum won a lot of primaries and caucuses in 2012 also, and never got the nomination.

Trump still looks like the winner to me, though not as strong as he was. But it does look like we are in the middle of "The Empire Strikes Back."

Kevin, How so?

Seems you're correct, Dave.

Doesn't look like Cruz will catch Kasich in Michigan and Trump's off to a couple solid wins.
They threw just about everything they had at him and it apparently didn't penetrate.

I can't get my mind around a Trump win.

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria offered some commentary on his show Sunday about the rise of Donald Trump in the GOP and its similarities to the rise of Islamic extremism.

Zakaria said, “A main cause of the rise of extremism in the world of Islam has been the cowardice of Muslim moderates who, for decades, chose not to condemn bad ideas and ugly rhetoric.”

He believes they made the dire mistake of avoiding the “cancer in plain sight” and there is “a similar dynamic” at play in the conservative world.

Zakaria argued that the very same people trashing Trump these days aided and abetted his rise by, over the years, embracing “the rhetoric and tactic of the extremes.”

He said that their refusal to acknowledge there was anything wrong with the GOP feeding “the forces of anti-intellectualism, obstructionism, and population” led to a candidate who has “unashamedly” embraced all of it.
