Winners of Last Night's GOP Debate

Pm Carpenter's assessment of yesterday's and last night's events:

A top Republican strategist tweeted that Donald Trump, the aforementioned frontrunner, is "obviously, dangerously psychotic."

A Naval War College professor confirmed the preceding diagnosis by tweeting that "The most important thing that happened tonight [at the GOP debate] is Trump vowing to provoke the most serious civil-military crisis in U.S. history since 1860."

Another Republican operative tweeted about that debate: "My party is committing suicide on national television."

At the debate, the frontrunner demonstrated his abject ignorance of international trade, he misunderstood Common Core, he botched estimates of Medicare spending, he again advocated war crimes as the foundation of U.S. foreign policy, and he bragged about the size of his penis."

The winners of last night's GOP debate:

They created their own problems and are suffering the consequences. The Goops have lost ground heavily ever since Obama took office. Having a charismatic, intelligent leader instead of a sock puppet has laid the contrast in party styles bare. Without careful preparation the Goops would be in even worse shape. As re-districting and voter ID laws continue to be struck down, their slide into the dustbin of history will accelerate.

What a sideshow.

Hey everyone, LET'S LIMBO !!
How low can you go?

Between L'il Marco talking about ground troops in Syria and "He's Psycho" Cruz talking about
protecting religious liberty (yeah, right) I found myself thinking Kasich might be a moderate.

Must avoid.

So after the sturm and drang of Romney's takedown of Trump, he's willing to support him if he's the nominee. Christie isn't the only one being held hostage.

For the concern trolls who came here to tell me that voter turnout in the primaries, so far, has been higher for the Repubs than for the Dems. Here's some history on that subject from James Downie of the WaPo.

"Some have suggested that record turnout in the Republican primaries bodes ill for the Democrats come November. But there’s no historical evidence of such a connection. In 1980 and 1988, millions more people voted in the Democratic primaries than in the Republican contests — and Democrats lost in the fall. In 2000, Republicans had the edge, and the GOP lost the popular vote. And there’s no consistent relationship between increases or decreases in a party’s primary turnout from four years earlier and victory in November."

After watching all 11 Republiclown debates and listened to dozens of Repub campaign ads being blasted at us here in Florida, I've come to a conclusion. I'm more grateful than EVER to be a Democrat!

I'm enjoying this Republican train wreck every bit as much as the four worthies in your gif are.

The winners should also include blue-state popcorn retailers.

It's hardly surprising that Republican primary turnout is so high, given that the poo-flinging orangutan leading the pack inspires such strong feelings, for and against. But the same passions driving that turnout are tearing the party into warring factions which will be almost impossible to reunify by November.

I watch the first half of it last night. I just sat here with my mouth hanging open. Presidential was one of the last words I even thought of. I find it simply impossible to imagine Trump, Cruz, or Rubio as president. It is a great ad for electing a democratic president...ANY democratic president.

After observing American political parties for 46 years I'm more grateful than ever to be independent.

BTW, in my independent opinion the photo shopped car party video of the group displaying gleeful exuberance at its opposition party doing a public meltdown does not indicate a desired level of maturity one should hope exists in America's democratic party. But I guess partisan politics will forever after trump (pun intended) rational and thoughtful political expression.

Going for the pickled eggs and craft brews. It is indeed a dark day for America.

BlueBull,

In a way Trump's candidacy is a gift in disguise: this boorish, vulgar, bigoted, narcissistic ignoramus is exposing the Republican base to all the world for what it truly is. And the other three knotheads don't have anything different to offer - they just say it in code. The party of bigotry and greed is orchestrating its own demise.

I refuse to believe that a majority of Americans could ever allow someone so repugnant to lead them.

Miss Shaw, there's nothing wrong with the gif. It doesn't show "immaturity" or anything of the sort -- it's representative of many liberals who see the implosion of the Tea Party Republicans as inevitable. Some people have no sense of humor.

Some people have no sense of humor.

Oh I have a sense of humor. I just don't believe gloating over the decline of what was one a reputable and principled opposition party is a reason to gloat. But that's only my opinion.

I'm sure there are many who would love to have but one party and political ideology survive in America. I do not happen to hold that position. For what should be obvious reasons.

Look, we can be great. That I will tell you. We're change this country, ok? And I understand what you're saying, I hear it all the time. People call me and ask, "Am I really that big?" That's what they're asking me, its unbelievable. I can guarantee you I am big, it's unbelievable.

Trump's three remaining rivals, Cruz, Rubio and Kasich have said in the debates what a despicable, lying, business failure, opportunist, Clinton lover, non-true conservative Trump is and yet all three have vowed to vote for this lying, oppportunistic, business failure, clinton loving non conservative if he's the nominee?

What sort of b.s. is that? They hate what he stands for and see that he's about as conservative as Ted Kennedy was and yet THEY WILL VOTE FOR HIM if he's the nominee. That's why people make fun of the Tea Party Republican Party, they have no core beliefs, they believe in NOTHING except winning the White House even if they mock themselves in doing so. They deserve all the mockery anyone dumps on these moral cowards. Even the supposed nice guy Ben Carson is for the repulsive Trump.

As I said, the Tea Party and its followers are moral cowards and morally corrupt to support a con man for the most important job in the world.

They deserve to be laughed into oblivion.

RN, the gif was put up on my blog not for gloating reasons but for the only answer to the madness going on right now in the TeaPublican Party. Perhaps when the leading candidates for the presidency act like actors in a slapstick comedy, the only reaction is to laugh one's head off.

Here's Conservative writer, Kathleen Parker's take on what's happening:

The end of this GOP might be a blessing

"The death of this party — of know-nothing ugliness and outright fascist rhetoric — might be a blessing, a cleansing of the palate before a resurrection of the party of limited government and individual liberty." - Kathleen Parker

They're the ones who decided to go in the direction they have. It is what it is. If it's so bad now that it's going to benefit the Democrats, then I say "hell yeah, it's a good thing". Not that them being so bad is good - because it is definitely NOT. However, given that they are, it absolutely should benefit the Dems.

The Republican party is committed to a Christian Nation vision of America which would make me a second-class citizen in the land where I was born, while shitting all over the intent of the Founders. They are committed to a libertarian economic vision which is turning America into a feudal society where a tiny, obscenely-wealthy minority reduces the rest of us to serfs. They want to destroy Obamacare, Social Security, and everything else that has been built to give the least fortunate a little respite from abject misery.

Conservatism has always "stood athwart history, yelling stop", fighting tooth and nail against every extension of power and rights and freedom to blacks, women, and gays. To this day the Republican party is single-mindedly fighting all over the country to roll back the reproductive freedom won by women under Roe v. Wade, reducing women to the level of insensate breeding stock, like cattle.

This is not some kind of genteel contest against an honorable opponent. There is nothing honorable or decent or in any way good about conservatism or the Republican party. They are horrible, twisted, vicious, nasty people. They have declared all-out war on me and everyone like me, and I am entitled and obligated to return the insult, with compound interest liberally added thereunto.

I gloat with glee over the vicious and evil Republican party finally meeting the end it wrote for itself with its embrace of bigotry and anti-modernity. I cannot wait to piss on its grave. To hell with chivalry.

I saw that article Shaw. I agree with Parker.

I'm also fine with a hastening of the Tea Party/GOP demise. When it happens hopefully a new 21st century fiscally responsible, socially enlightened, and limited government party emerges. One that values civil liberties and is cautious militarily. One that recognizes that not only must the environment be respected but also encouraging population control through education and increased awareness of the real dangers of overpopulation as resources no longer provide ample supplies resulting in famine as war.

My preference is noted in my response to Shaw's comment.
