Donald Trump's Terrible, Awful, Very Bad Week

UPDATE BELOW:

Image via Infidel753:

After a restful week of sand, sea, fresh air, and NO internet, it was difficult to return to the noisy droning on of the political process in this presidential election season, but return we must.

Some things that happened while the Shaw Kenawe family were listening to and watching the wheeling and diving of herring gulls on Cape Cod's magnificent Nauset Beach:

Republican presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump attacked a Gold Star family.

Yes. That actually happened, and, from what I've read, many on the radical rabid right agree with and have excused Trump's dreadful, shameful reaction to the Khan's son's ultimate sacrifice.

One of Trump's supporters gave Trump his own Purple Heart, to which Trump commented: "I"ve always wanted a Purple Heart." As though a Purple Heart were just another trophy to brandish before the public as a symbol of Trump's worth. The Talking Yam has no idea what Americans who've earned a Purple Heart have had to sacrifice to earn one. He's a despicable draft dodger who wouldn't put his own Richie Rich ass on the line when his country needed him.

Is there nothing this bag of excrement can do to sour his supporters? I guess not, since his radical rabid right fans are still willing to debase themselves and their values because their hatred of Hillary Clinton trumps their love of America.

Trump's execrable behavior has had a devastating impact on his poll numbers (yes, we are still  three months from the election, and things can change),  Hillary's poll numbers are rising as Trump's are tanking. Some red states are now in play, and battleground/swing states are leaning toward Hillary.

The Harvard Republican Club, for the first time in its history and showing moral courage, is NOT endorsing Trump. And Meg Whitman, MEG WHITMAN! is endorsing Hillary Clinton. There are, as we have noted, many Republicans of principle who love America more than a political party. Good for Meg Whitman, and shame on those lily-livered cowards who continue to make excuses for sticking with the disaster for the country that is Trump.

The Libertarian Party's new slogan for their Gary Johnson and Bill Weld ticket is "Feel The Johnson," which everyone knows is an oblique way of saying "Feel The Penis."  Clever or  PG13-rated? I report; you decide. Between the nude photos of a potential FLOTUS published in a Trump-friendly newspaper and now the Libertarian Party asking Americans to "Feel The Penis," one wonders what other soft porn the Goopers and Libertarians have in store for the American public to enjoy during this unique presidential election season.

And finally this from Richard Wolffe:

"Richard Wolffe at The Guardian writes—

For Donald Trump, this was more than a terrible week. It was a turning point: Trump has demolished his campaign, his brand and his party. He has squandered his vice-presidential pick and his convention, and several battleground states along with them. He picked several fights he could not win, and showed no sign of learning from his own failure. It would be tempting to say this was just another week in the bizarre life of the Republican presidential nominee. But it wasn’t. This week was a decisive turning point in the 2016 election, and there have been remarkably few of them in an campaign that is supposedly volatile."

And another one bites, another one's gone, another one bites The Trump!

UPDATE:

(CNN) -- Frank Lavin, an official in every GOP administration since Reagan, says he'll vote for Hillary ClintonTrump is unsuited to the presidency and his serial bankruptcies raise questions about his business record, Lavin says.

"(CNN) -- I had the honor of serving as Ronald Reagan's White House political director from 1987 to 1989, so I can claim some insight on U.S. politics.

My central conclusion on the 2016 race: It might not be entirely clear that Hillary Clinton deserves to win the presidency, but it is thunderingly clear that Donald Trump deserves to lose. on this premise, I will do something that I have not done in 40 years of voting: I will vote for the Democratic nominee for president.

The depressing truth of the Republican nominee is that Donald Trump talks a great game but he is the emperor who wears no clothes. Trump falls short in terms of the character and behavior needed to perform as president. This defect is crippling and ensures he would fail in office. Trump is a bigot, a bully, and devoid of grace or magnanimity. His thin-skinned belligerence toward every challenge, rebuke, or criticism would promise the nation a series of a high-voltage quarrels. His casual dishonesty, his policy laziness, and his lack of self-awareness would mean four years of a careening pin-ball journey that would ricochet from missteps to crisis to misunderstandings to clarifications to retractions."

Tell us how you really feel, Mr. Lavin!

Another principled Republican who loves America more than he loves a political party.

Bravo!

From Talking Points Memo:

A well-received Democratic National Convention and a rough news week for Donald Trump have left Hillary Clinton with a comfortable lead among voters, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll out Sunday.

Clinton held an eight-point lead over Trump, earning 50 percent of support among registered voters compared to 42 percent for the real estate tycoon. This marks a four-point bump for Clinton from the last WaPo-ABC poll taken just before the Republican National Convention began in mid-July, where she led 47 percent to 43 percent.

The Democratic nominee’s lead falls slightly in a four-way contest that includes Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein. In a four-way race, Clinton leads Trump 45 percent to 37 percent, while Johnson takes 8 percent and Stein takes 4 percent.

And 538 has her chances of winning at over 90%.

Meanwhile, the rabid wingnuts are diagnosing Hillary Clinton from their keyboards and calling her mentally unstable with symptoms of everything from brain seizures to congestive heart failure. They're really outdoing themselves in wingnuttery and hysterics. I actually feel sorry for the poor dupes, they're really too blind stupid to see Donald Trump the way the rest of the world sees him. Trump is a full 10 points behind Hillary and its only August. I assume the dregs over at the Stench Trench are on suicide watch.

OARoTPB,

If they're not on suicide watch now, they and all the dupes supporting Trump will be on suicide watch after they read this:

From PM Carpenter's blog:

ABC News/Washington Post's latest isn't a poll of an 8-point Clinton lead. It's a pathology report:

Seventy-nine percent of Americans say [Trump] doesn’t show enough respect for people he disagrees with, 70 percent express anxiety about a Trump presidency, 67 percent think he lacks the personality and temperament it takes to serve effectively, 64 percent doubt his understanding of world affairs, 63 percent see him unfavorably overall, 62 percent say he's not honest and trustworthy, 61 percent think he's unqualified for office and 60 percent think he's biased against women and minorities.

Shaw, sounds like you had a nice vacation. Thanks for the Richard Wolffe. In return, here's Rick Wilson at the Daily News imploring everyone to Beat Trump Like A Drum.

Trump will soldier on, and he will ignore those whom he has vanquished so far. And it’s early. The polls are seldom correct this far out. Nobody except me apparently remembers that Reagan was behind by around 15 points at this same time in 1980 to Jimmy Carter. He had no chance. And George H. W. Bush was behind by around the same margin to Michael Dukakis in 1988. Reagan didn’t have a prayer.

And yet I don’t recall the second term of the Carter administration, nor do I recall anyone named ‘President Dukakis.’ What I recall was both of those liberal schlubbs got their butts kicked in landslides.

Dear "A Different Voice,"

This is the year 2016, not the 1980s. Your prediction has no merit. No one can win the presidency anymore with just the poorly educated white vote. Trump has lost the Latino/Hispanic vote, the women's vote, only 1% of African-Americans support him, Asians do not support him, and neither do traditionally conservative Muslims. White college-degreed males, a traditionally conservative voting bloc, are trending toward Hillary.

Battleground/swing states are trending toward Hillary.

You didn't think this through before you posted your pipe dream.

I know everyone needs to hang onto hope, even the hopeless Trumpistas but as I said, this is 2016, not 1980. Your premise is not valid.

Kevin, I had a wonderful vacation. The Saratoga Springs family was with us.

Wilson has my enthusiastic support for beating Trump like a drum! I don't know any sane person who is supporting Trump. Cape Cod is a traditionally conservative part of Massachusetts (with the exception of Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet). I never saw one bumper sticker or lawn sign with Trump's name on it the whole time I was there. That is different from 4 years ago when Romney was running against Obama, and there were many, many Romney signs and bumper stickers evident.

Jerry, I like 90% chance of winning. I hope that percentage goes up so Trump is beat like a drum.

His "economic" speech was tired old leftovers from Reagan and Bush era economic plans that brought economic mediocrity to the middle class. See the above post to hear Trump's funny malapropism.
