General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

Friday's This and That

 THIS:

Creepy clown sightings reported in various parts of the country.

Here's a particularly scary one:

I'm relieved that family and friends in Florida are okay after Matthew terrorified the state.  Speaking of frightening things, Florida Governor Rick Scott has announced that he will not extend voter registration after Hurricane Matthew because there is always the possibility that new Democrats may want to register, and in typical GOP obstruction and ant-democratic fashion, Scott is doing all in his power to keep newly registered Democrats from voting.  Way to go, Guv!

And this on that most disliked candidate in the history of presidential politics:

Not One Major Newspaper Has Endorsed Donald J. Trump

"Newspaper endorsements don't often change many voters' minds—unless they break with traditional party loyalties and make an unexpected pick. In this race, plenty of papers have done just that, and not in the Republican Party's favor. With a month to go until Election Day, no major editorial board has endorsed Trump in the general election.  Faced with the prospect of a Trump presidency, some papers that have endorsed Republicans for decades are painting Hillary Clinton as a qualified and steady leader.

As the Dallas Morning News, which last endorsed a Democrat before World War II, wrote in its endorsement of Clinton last month, "Her errors are plainly in a different universe than her opponent's." Some newspapers are also endorsing much earlier than usual, rather than waiting until the final week or two of the campaign. The Chicago Sun-Times, which reversed its 2012 decision to stop making presidential endorsements, explained in its September endorsement of Clinton, "The best way to avert a train wreck is to wave a warning flag as soon as possible."

AND THAT:

I've been puzzled by the number of self-identified "family values" Evangelical Christians backing the most valueless, bigoted, and religiously phony GOP candidate I've seen in my lifetime. However, not ALL Evangelicals are in the Trump Clown Car. There are quite a few who have the moral courage of their faith to condemn Trump for the fraud and despicable person that he is.

For the rest of the so-called "Christians" who still support Trump, they will have plenty of time to reflect on why they placed their support in a person who is everything they would have condemned had Trump declared himself to be a liberal Democrat. That they still support this racist liar for POTUS will forever follow them all the days of their lives.

Group of nearly 80 evangelical leaders publish letter condemning Trump “We cannot ignore this bigotry.”

A diverse group of evangelical Christians unveiled a letter on Thursday condemning Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his candidacy, arguing his campaign “affirms racist elements in white culture.” The letter, which is signed by nearly 80 prominent evangelical leaders, thinkers, authors, and pastors, decries Trump’s attacks on women, Muslims, immigrants, refugees, and the disabled, saying such vitriol is an affront to the Christian faith.

It also highlights how his campaign has energized white nationalists, such as when he was endorsed by leaders of the Ku Klux Klan. “We cannot ignore this bigotry, set it aside, just focus on other issues, or forget the things Mr. Trump has consistently said and done,” the letter reads. “No matter what other issues we also care about, we have to make it publicly clear that Mr. Trump’s racial and religious bigotry and treatment of women is morally unacceptable to us as evangelical Christians, as we attempt to model Jesus’ command to ‘love your neighbors as yourself.’”

GOOD NEWS:

Our FiveThirtyEight update continues to deliver good news with Hillary Clinton's chances of winning the election at 79%, and, were it held today those chances of winning are at almost 87%.

Nice dig, Shaw. I hadn't realized that La Donald is the source of the "creepy clown" phenomenon.

Just who is endorsing The Orange Man other than the Klan?

Damn, even the evangelicals are at the breaking point with this (creepy) clown.

I'm becoming more comfortable with the idea that Hillary will be nudged to the left and we'll
all come out of this okay. The Klan will be unhappy but normals will do alright.

Thanks for the clown sighting joke. I believe he was endorsed by the National Enquirer and possibly the Weekly World News. They're not major papers?

This is what I predicted months ago would happen, there would be more and more sleazey stories that would come out, especially during the month of October.
In the final two weeks there will be stories with the claim of being "just discovered".

None of this will matter to the people like me that despise lying crooked lifer politician Hillary, but it could nake a difference with 10% or so of the so-called moderate, or on the fence people.

Those aren't "stories" Mr.Know Nothing. What came out today is Donald Trump, in his own words, bragging about how he can assault women (grabbing their pussies), because he's a star.

“I am sickened by what I heard today,” Ryan said through a spokesman, about five hours after The Washington Post published a 2005 recording of Trump boasting of groping women and trying to have sex with a married woman.

You and every decent person in the electorate, Paul.
This latest tape finally convinced you The Orange Man isn't presidential?

Well, better late than never. I suspect there will be others joining you.

I say, let the chips fall where they may, For me, I'd still rather have a man with his convictions, then some one with hers.

Ducky,

What do you make of the self-professed "Christians" over at the Mother Ship and at the usual right wing blogs stubborn refusal to see Trump for the indecent louche that he is. It apparently doesn't bother them that early on in the campaign, Trump said he never asks for forgiveness from the Lord. So what happens now?

And how do those people who talk about the devotion to Christian and conservative principles justify their support for Trump, the unapologetic liar and misogynist? Are they really going to dismiss this as inconsequential? Because decent Americans will not. Where does that leave them?

Well, predictably they're circling the wagons. In some cases they are quite willing to excuse his sexual assault and move on.

These people have had their skulls so thoroughly drilled and filled with mush from the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, Gateway Pundit and Breitfart that they can't manage an independent thought.

They will go down with his ship regardless.

Stock up on popcorn for the debate.
