More Blue Wave Good News!

UPDATES ON DEMOCRATS WINNING OTHER RACES ACROSS U.S. BELOW:

"A week later it's clear the midterms did produce a blue wave – here are the three main factors that drove the Democrats' triumph One week ago, three distinct but overlapping currents combined to shift tidal forces in America's midterm elections — and smash the Republican Party's congressional fortress. Those currents were:

* Demographic change,

* Democratic mobilization, and

* Disaffection with President Donald Trump.

As is clearer now than on election night, they produced a blue wave that has fundamentally altered the political calculus of the capital."    --John Harwood | @johnjharwood

 More good news:

"We hope Republican Mike Coffman is right! He blames his loss in Colorado on Trump:

'Donald Trump is about Donald Trump, and what Donald Trump is, is he wants to be the center of attention every single day. He wants to dominate the news cycle every single day, and good luck trying to get a message out of that.'

Army veteran Jason Crow unseated Coffman, becoming the first Democrat to represent Colorado’s Sixth District since it was created.

Congratulations, Jason Crow! Way to go!"

AND THE BLUE WAVE KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND WAVIER!

N.J. Democrat Defeats Trump Ally, Leaving the State With Just 1 Republican in Congress

WHAT?! Mississippi? DEAD HEAT????

Image may contain: 1 person, text that says 'WE CAN'T BELIEVE OUR EYES!! 41% 41% Mississippi Democrat Mike Espy's Senate race is a DEAD HEAT.'

Look at this!

Maine Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s loss under the state’s new ranked-choice voting system on Thursday likely means the end of New England Republicans in the House.

It’s the first time in over 100 years an incumbent has lost Maine’s 2nd District. Poliquin is still pursuing his legal challenge to the ranked-choice voting system in federal court, but Democrat Jared Golden won more than 50 percent after state election officials tabulated the ranked-choice votes on Thursday afternoon. Poliquin narrowly led the Democrat on the first count, but since neither candidate received 50 percent of the vote, the state’s new ranked-choice voting system kicked in.

A federal judge on Thursday morning denied a Poliquin lawsuit to seek an injunction against the tabulation of those votes.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA? SERIOUSLY?

LATIMES:  "Republicans lose a fifth House seat in California as Democrat Katie Porter ousts Rep. Mimi Walters"

In another blow to California Republicans reeling from defeats in the Nov. 6 election, Democrat Katie Porter has ousted GOP Rep. Mimi Walters in an upscale Orange County congressional district that was a longtime conservative bastion.

At the same time, the updated vote count Thursday by the Orange County registrar of voters had Democratic House candidate Gil Cisneros pulling 941 votes ahead of Republican Young Kim in an adjacent congressional district.

This is good news. We continue to see more winning by the Democrats and more pouting by Trump. Congratulations to all the winners as we expect more good news for the Democrats.

I very much doubt you're "The Real AOW, but I like your sense of humor.

Here's an article you'll likely like. Made me smile.

I think maybe Trump realizes the reality of the situation, too. That's why he's such a grumpy Gus lately.

Kevin, that link was wonderful. Lots of good information on why the Mueller investigation is pretty secure now that the Democrats have control of the House.

Yes. We have a lot to be thankful for. Every day there is more news about Democrats winning! The close Mississippi race is amazing. As is Georgia's! Red, red, red territory, and the blue Dems threated with winning?

That's the Trump effect on the GOP.

Ducky's here said...

Not enough attention is being paid to the pick up in governorships. This should put a dent in the Repubs gerrymandering shenanigans.

This was a solid election despite the status quo in the senate.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ducky, you're correct. The takeover of the governorships AND many state legislatures is another positive. We should be dancing in the streets with this much winning.

Trump said we'd be tired of so much winning.

I'm not! LOL! Let it continue!

Trump said we'd be tired of so much winning.

Almost a complete victory you might say.

In Mississippi, unfortunately the reason it's 41-41 is that the rest of the vote went to an extreme-right fringe candidate. Not many of those voters will go for Espy in the runoff.

But all in all, yes, the news is good.

Ducky... the governorships, besides Nevada, were mostly in the industrial Great Lakes region. That should shore up the "blue wall" and be very good for Dems in 2020.

Also, let's not forget Question 6 in Florida. That gave voting rights back to an estimated 1.4 million former non violent felons who have paid their debt to society. Think the Dems will get a majority of those voters? One of my buddies says look for 1.395 million new Dems.

The only bad news I've seen is it looks like Mia Love in Utah is going to pull this one out. But of course that's because Dems believe in counting all the votes.

Want to get his base riled up, just say the following:

Caravan!
They're coming for your guns!
Nancy Pelosi!
Raising your Taxes!
Obamacare!

Say any of those and you will have the Trump base saying out of your hands like a hungry dog with a bone.

It is never about the truth with Donald Dunce and his kowtowing base, it is about fear, warped perceptions and alternate reality

Republican Debunker is making the rounds with her/his copy and paste. Hmmm

RN, the facc that R.D. is going around pasting his comment in liberal and conservative blogs makes his/her ID very suspicious. Plus, there's another reason I doubt he/she is what he/she presents.

Quick history primer to my Republican friends that continue to whine over the 2018 election that was just held, instead of accepting the severe whipping that they took.
During President Obama’s 8 years in office, he only had a Majority in the House and a Super Majority in the Senate for his first year in office. Then Teddy died and he lost the Super Majority in the Senate. Never “regained” a Majority after his first two years in office. History is history. After 2010 the Republicans Gerrymandered all the House Districts to make it near impossible for the Democrats to ever take control of the House again. But here we sit, with House District after House District that voted for Trump just two years ago FLIPPING from Red to BLUE, as a repudiation of the most crooked and inept administration in History. The Democrats are approaching +40 in the House by FLIPPING Pro-Trump Districts. So, please “Wah Wah” all you like. Whining doesn’t change historical facts.
Thank you.

There is a fight for Pelosi's leadership position right now. We could have a split in the new Democratic caucus just like Obama had the Blue Dog Democrats.

IF Democrats have another big win in 2020 that might give Democrats the power to have the gerrymander edge in 2021. At which point we will see if Democrats will be just as unfair as the Republicans have been with their gerrymander powers.

Les Carpenter said...

A VERY poignant observation Jerry. We can hope dems will do the right thing. Given politics are politics I am skeptical. Hopefully we have the opportunity to find out.

If they find more democrat votes I don't believe the 2018 turn will come close to what obama caused. What was it sixty seat swing. The switch was expected and now we can prepare for the assault of ads for 2020 where there will be an unprecedented number of candidates. Rumor is even the Democrats will have more than two candidates. At least djt can blame the democrats when the economy does a maher and tanks. With marvelous maxine at the helm it can't fail to happen. She will get back at all those middle class people and make them suffer.

Even Moon Beam is being accused of taking bribes to go easy on PG&E causing massive fires. When will people come to terms that our political system is totally corrupt and even obama the great couldn't fix it.

Translation please.

skud: "I don't believe the 2018 turn will come close to what obama caused. What was it sixty seat swing..."

That is pure unadulterated Trumpian bullshit. A deliberate lie to deflect from the absolute disaster that the 2018 elections were for Trump and the GOP. Those interested in the facts understand this; people like skud who do not deal in facts, choose not to face the facts.

This is emblematic of a weak Trump and the desperate party he leads.

The drubbing the GOP took was the worst since the Nixon era. It was worse than the 2010 drubbing during the Obama administration. It was a tsunami. For you, skud, to dismiss it as you did only enforces what is true about the current GOP and its leader: deliberate, willful ignorance. That's the only explanation for what is easily disproved in your comment.

"...in 27 of the 33 Senate races included in the chart,3 Democratic candidates outperformed the partisan leans of their states. And there were four contests where Democratic incumbents fared 20 points or better than their state’s political baseline — and three of them won. This helped Democrats hold onto seats in two heavily Republican states — West Virginia and Montana — and easily win one seat in a likely 2020 battleground — Minnesota. As for North Dakota, the GOP picked up the seat despite a strong Democratic overperformance. --Five Thirty-Eight

Here's something that seems to be to complicated for the average Gooper to understand:

Because each state gets two senators, irrespective of population, states such as Wyoming have as many seats as California, despite the latter having more than 60 times the population. The smaller states also tend to be the more rural, and rural areas traditionally favor Republicans.

This year, because Democrats were defending more seats, including California, they received more overall votes for the Senate than Republicans,

But we Democrats, Independents, and Libertarians are here to help people like skud to live the life of the mind.

Shaw Kenawe said...

About 60 million people turned out to vote for Democrats for the House this year. That is a **crazy** number. (Republicans got 45m votes in the 2010 wave.)

And this was sort of missed. Why so many stories about Trump voters in truck stops and not so many about "the resistance"?
-- Nate Silver, Five Thirty-Eight

skudrunner said...

So Ms Shaw are you saying in 2010 the republicans didn't go from 180 to 239 in the house and pick up 5 senate seats. You need to inform the media because that is what they reported.
It is upsetting for presidents to make statements and not back them up. Read my lips no new taxes, cross this line and there will be consequences, you can keep your doctor. No matter what you think of djt he doesn't govern by polls. It is a shock to everyone and I wish he would just shut up and do his job.

We are in agreement skuddrunner. I wish he'd shut up and do his job as well.
