The biggest problem with any bill the democrats object to is there is just not enough PORK to go around. The cost to extend obamacare subsidies for 2026 is 23.4 billion and for ten years 350 billion. This is according to the CBO which you say is objective. The democrats are asking for 1.5 trillion so what are they going to waste the additional 1.15 Trillion on. Their reason for shutting down the government is the republicans want to negotiate healthcare and maybe come up with a workable system. They have only had 15 years to come up with something so I am not holding my breath like the democrats coming up with a workable immigration policy except lets open the border. Now since schumer is keeping the government closed because of healthcare and a clean CR would open the government and provide subsidies allowing time to come up with a comprise who is really keeping the government closed. It does seem that the republicans want to have slower spending which is something the democrats never want.
Gotta give that pork to the MIC, the oligarchs and businesses, and of course the bomb crazy cheif of genocide, netanyahu in zionist israel. To hell with middle class America and those in need. Right skud?
"Surprisingly, Marjorie Taylor Greene has emerged as a forceful critic of the GOP stance in the government shutdown fight. Greene just unleashed an angry rant at House Speaker Mike Johnson, pointedly accusing him of having no answer or millions of people who will lose Obamacare subsidies due to the GOP refusal to extend them. “He refused to give one policy proposal to our GOP conference on our own conference call,” Greene raged. “Apparently I have to go into a [classified facility] to find out the Republican healthcare plan!!!” This wrecks Trump’s shutdown strategy: It sabotages his effort to blame the shutdown on Democrats wanting to give health care to undocumented immigrants, and shifts blame back to the GOP desire to take health care away from millions of Americans." And in bright red Idaho, huge crowds packed the big (and some small) towns on No Kings Day.
skud, you really wrote the Republicans in power want to have slower spending??? Really? I ask because reality doesn't align with your statements, or logic for that matter. The latest tally of how many unappropriated dollars the Trump admin has spent is in the Trillions now. And that is spent without any offsets so our country will be paying for this Trumpian venture for generations. You used to care about such things. Now? Trump clouds your vision so I'm not sure if you believe what you used to say you believed.
Now, before you say it skud I'm do not believe the Democratic party has been all that and a bag of chips. I was a registered Republican back in the day for a reason. I am saying you are bringing 1970's logic and standards to a 2025 debate and you just sound... Well, you sound as old and fossilized as the current Democratic National Party leadership team.
No, skud, for the thousandth time, the offers on the table to open up the country do not say or do what you say. But don't listen to my words but the words of Shaw and the Daves. Possum Lady also brought up some very good points and you were polite and all but then ignored everything everyone said and just blurted out your MAGA talking points all while berating all of us for calling you MAGA. Weird.
skud, you say you are a business person. In business would you trust a vendor who promised a date and time for an agreed upon price only for them to back out of the deal just before the goods were contracted to appear? Would you trust that vendor if you'd signed a long term contract only for them to rip it up in front of your face to say they didn't like the terms which you both worked hard to hammer out? I mean, how can you trust this vendor ever again?
And that is the issue with the Democratic Party and the GOP's negotiations into opening up the country. In the past the two parties would work together when an issue was troublesome. Example - the years it took to work out the border bill. Both sides contributed which means neither side got all the punch list items they wanted only for the GOP to turn their backs on it because its passing would reflect well on the bipartisanship nature of the bill.
GOP has gone from fellow colleagues trying to help the American people to a party that practices the philosophy of "I got mine, screw you"? So why again is it the Democratic Parties responsibility negotiate on behalf of their constituents when they know the GOP is just going to poop on the efforts and call it candy?
All good questions skud and I predict you will "say" you answer me all while repeating propaganda that was old before time was time. No worries. Just had to get this comparison out of me because trust me, my emotional self wanted to say the same stuff only ruder. This is the more logical way and I do hope you see my point. I wouldn't have written it if I didn't want better for you specifically skud. The rest of us? We will survive but you? When your world view crashes I'd like to think that you remember you have space at PE where you are viewed with compassion.
Grey, One of the reasons I am not a republican is because I am a fiscal conservative and neither party believes in wise spending of taxpayer money including the republicans. I am an independent who believes politicians represent themselves and we are just pawns. Neither party represents conservative spending and this is one of the reasons we cannot balance the budget. That and everyone does not pay their fair share.
Not sure what your vendor part has to do with negotiating the budget while keeping the government open. I agree that in the past the parties worked together and now one side says give me what I want or I will not talk to you. If this was such a horrible thing why did the house pass a CR with bipartisan support and schumer says nope. It has a sunset in it so it could not go into effect unless there was a vote.
I will ask you what is the other 1.15 Trillion going to be wasted on. Nice of you to care about my well being but I am and will be fine.
skud, not going to answer your questions because you, as predicted, didn't answer any of mine.
You didn't understand my vendor metaphor? Wow. Are you sure you owned a business? I ask because your indignation tells me you think nothing of conducting business with a human who repeatedly sucker punches you only to hold out their hand for a handshake only to sucker punch you again. Doesn't your solar plexus hurt?
You know why the Senate won't pass the dirty CR bill. Every single person here has explained to you the error of your assumptions but honestly, one cannot and will not convince a human of a fact when that human is paid (cash, identity, standing) to not understand.
There stands skud, determined to not see what they don't want to see, so convinced of their own moral high ground they are unable to determine if their position is founded upon rock or, as we all have witnessed, upon a sandy beach undermined by an incoming surge of inconvenient facts.

So, are you a BIG L Libertarian skud? You Know, like the Koch Brothers. Or put another way do you align with many of their views and perhaps Ayn Rand?
