Another Low in American Politics Brought to US by Trump

Richard Wolffe at The Guardian writesThe nicest thing you could say about Trump’s performance was that it was bonkers:

We can understand a totalitarian like Putin threatening to jail his opponent, but I've never heard an American politician threaten his opponent with that in my lifetime. But that's just what the Republican candidate for POTUS did last night, when he wasn't stalking Secretary Clinton as she gave her answers to the questions being asked by the audience.

Another performance by the Short Fingered Vulgarian proved he knows nothing about foreign or domestic issues and that he is the consummate liar that the fact checkers all over the country have said he is.

Trump's performance last night and the revelations about his sexual predations last Friday makes him unfit to be the POTUS, and that's not just my opinion, that's the opinion of an avalanche of Republican politicians and the American people.

PM Carpenter:

And we're all blessed that Trump performed as well he did last night. I was getting a trifle nervous, wondering if Reince Priebus & Co. might come to its senses and somehow figure a way to dump its absolute horror of a nominee. Thus I reveled upon reading this in the Times this morning: "Trump’s performance was sure-footed enough that no more Republican officials disavowed him in the immediate aftermath of the debate."

In declaring that Clinton has "tremendous hate in her heart," that she "should be ashamed of herself," that she is "the devil," and that as a banana-republic dictator he would put her "in jail," Trump reinvigorated his malevolent base and guaranteed its imperishable presence in GOP Politics 2016. Which is to say, he's untouchable. He also guaranteed that his party will suffer a bloody split in 2017, as saner Republican pols flee the calamitous contours of November's Trumpian antecedent. A devastating performance last night might have pushed Mr. Priebus to do something sane straightaway, and that would have been a real pity. Trump's devastation is much better left for November.

*******************

Never forget that Trump, who insisted last night that he "respects" women, said this to Howard Stern about his (at the time) young daughter, Ivanka:

TRUMP: "My daughter is beautiful, Ivanka."
STERN: "By the way, your daughter."
TRUMP: "She's beautiful."
STERN: "Can I say this? A piece of ass."

TRUMP: "Yeah."

Every man I know knows what "a piece of ass" means when speaking about a female - it means "she's 'f***able." And Donald Trump let the shock jock, Howard Stern, say that about Ivanka.

That's Trump's idea of  "respecting" women.

His own daughter.

Sarah Jones at The New Republic writes—The Religious Right’s Devotion to Donald Trump Will End the Movement As We Know It:

Among his hardcore fans, Trump will survive these scandals; his supporters are now making that clear to his detractors. But his pious boosters can’t count on the same.Trump’s principal appeal to voters is his devotion to capitalism, not God. The religious right, meanwhile, pins itself to a claim of moral superiority. It always had more to lose.

Some evangelicals, like the Southern Baptist Convention’s Russell Moore, understand this, and have publicly criticized Trump’s convenient conversion. But their voices were never enough to sway the rank-and-file. The religious right was never as unique as it wanted everyone to believe, and now Trump has revealed the movement’s superiority to be the ruse it’s always been.

The religious right isn’t dead yet. But after this election becomes history, the movement will be forced to reckon with the consequences of its quest for power. Young adults, who overwhelmingly oppose Trump, are already leaving conservative churches, and the religious right’s Trump moment will surely only fuel this trend.

CNN has a good Reality Check piece out this morning. As expected the bag is mixed. Both true and false claims were made by tRump as well as HRC.

HRC is a consummate politician and tRump a fast study. Politicians say and do things that support their positions AND their self interests.

Last night's debate was certainly one for the record books and it will likely be remembered for its contentious and insulting free for all.

It was an embarrassment. Demonstrating the level to which American presidential politics has sunk to.

Having said that HRC won the debate on all levels. But is that really saying much? Methinks not. America is truely left with the unenviable choice between a bumbling narcissistic buffoon and an intelligent yet less than fully honest career public servant.

I guess it's again the "lesser of two evils, or if you prefer the one least likely to be a disaster. The choice is clear. HRC.

Oh, almost forgot. There is the choice of Johnson or Stein for those voting their conscience and convictions. Folks like my son and sister. Of course neither Johnson or Stein can win. But, they could very well be spoilers. Lets hope the spoil is not a disaster for civil liberties and America.

The more this debate continued, the more we saw how little Donald J. Trump knows. As he did in the first debate, he is never able to speak in specifics. He thinks that if he blurts out key words and insults, that will be enough to reach undecided voters. Instead, he is speaking only to his base, making them froth with even more hatred. A debate is designed to allow us to learn more about the candidates. Tonight we’ve learned or been reminded that Mr. Trump doesn’t know how American governance works — assuming that alone, as one senator, Hillary Clinton could impose her will upon the entire Congress and the Republican president at the time.

Shaw, I wonder why this wasn't brought up in the debate.

Federal Judge Orders Hearing in Donald Trump Rape Lawsuit

Federal Judge Ronnie Abrams has ordered a December status conference hearing after a woman, who calls herself “Jane Doe,” filed a lawsuit claiming that Trump raped her when she was 13 years old in the 1990s. This is the third attempt the plaintiff has made in filing this particular lawsuit. Last Friday, she filed an amended complaint, with a new “witness” named “Joan Doe.” The plaintiff and witnesses in the case are using pseudonyms, they say, to protect their identities.

http://lawnewz.com/high-profile/federal-judge-orders-hearing-in-donald-trump-rape-lawsuit-case/

“In the 1994-95 school year, I was told by the plaintiff in Jane Doe v. Trump and Epstein (1:16-cv-04642, SDNY) that the plaintiff was subject to sexual contact by the Defendants at parties in New York City during the summer of 1994,” one of the witnesses said in a declaration.

Most interesting, however not unexpected, is the spin each camp puts on their candidates performance. The tRump camp is almost comical as it twists and turns itself into a pretzel pretending their candidate is presidential.

It is a race to the bottom of the sludge pit and trump is winning. It is a shame that no matter who wins the next president will have the largest disapproval rating in history.
Our corrupt politicians can breath easy knowing -H- will win and nothing will change. Big money will control government, each side will blame the other for getting nothing done to assist the middle class, the country will increasingly become divided and the politically elite will pat themselves on the back because they fooled us again.

I guess you didn't listen to the debate last night. That's the problem with most Americans, they approach these "debates" with a closed mind, as you, skud, have demonstrated.

Hillary Clinton gave a detailed answer on tax breaks for the middle class. You don't like her, so you ignored it or didn't hear it and came here to prove to us that you didn't listen very carefully to anything. The only thing you ever contribute these days is both-siderisms, and whining about America's terrible choice.

The Republican Party is Trump and he's what the base believes would be a terrific president because he tell them he'll put Hillary in jail. "Lock her up!" is Trump's base's rallying cry. Talk about mob mentality.

They have but a few more weeks to revel in their Hillary Hatred.

Trump can't win the presidency with only 40% of the voting public. I know that, you, skud, know that, Hillary knows that, but Trump apparently DOESN'T know that. Trump didn't win any new voters with his horrid performance last night.

Forget what the deplorables come here and say...this is all that matters...Hillary is now ahead by double digits..all she has to do is let Donald be Donald and let him sink even lower then he already has...there's less than 30 days left to election...

Poll: After Trump Tape Revelation, Clinton's Lead Up to Double Digits

a few minutes after the debate started i took my dog for a walk and streets were totally empty. even in canada people are mesmerized by the lunacy of trump.

i'm wondering if trump is more interested in his tv ratings today than the actual facts of the debate.

I seem to remember another candidate that was going to unite the country, close Gitmo and work for all the people. Of course we all know what a disaster that has been for everyone except the special interest groups and the money men. Both of those groups have done quite well.

You believe -H- because she is a democrat and I do have to applaud you for sticking by the party candidate.

As to trumps words on tape I do agree it was locker room banter. I assume you nor any on this blog have been in a locker room. Actions speak louder than words and -H- deplorable spouse was all about action for which she condoned. We do live in a split moral society don't we.

RN,

IIRC, after Mr. Obama was nominated for the presidency by the Dems, the GOPers complained that he was too inexperienced to be an effective president. Now the GOP base (not all Republicans, many have left the leaky, sinking Trump Ship of Fools) is all giddy with the idea of a Trump presidency? Running a country is not at all like running a business, and even if it were, Trump has shown himself to be a lousy businessman.

The choice is between a psychologically damaged man and a consummate pol.

We know Johnson and Stein have no chance, which is a shame, since we need more than two parties.

Lee Arnold: "Tonight we’ve learned or been reminded that Mr. Trump doesn’t know how American governance works — assuming that alone, as one senator, Hillary Clinton could impose her will upon the entire Congress and the Republican president at the time."

And we learned of Trump's deep yearnings to be a tin-pot dictator when he talked about putting his opponent in jail. They got his braindead base all hot and excited, because in their fevered dreams they'd like nothing more than to turn this country into a banana republic where only their kind runs everything, and everyone they're afraid of or hate will be subjugated.

Federal Judge Orders Hearing in Donald Trump Rape Lawsuit"

Clearwater,

I wonder why that hasn't been brought up as well, especially after Trump said Bill Clinton was the worst abuser of women this country has seen. HIllary should have interjected "Up until now!"

Between the women who have and will come forward to tell us about how Trump sexually assaulted them, the rape of a 13-year old charge (which is REAL), and the other sickening evidence of Trump allowing -- no enjoying -- a creep like Howard Stern calling his own daughter "a piece of ass," Trump needs to watch out for more stories to come out about his anti-woman behavior.

Shaw Kenawe said...

LMAO,

Here's more good news:

The first poll taken since the release of a 2005 tape in which Donald Trump can be heard bragging about grabbing women’s genitals shows the Republican nominee taking a significant hit among voters nationally.

Hillary Clinton leads Trump by 14 points, 52-38, in a head-to-head matchup among likely voters, according to a NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Monday.

The poll was conducted on Saturday and Sunday, after the 2005 tape of Trump's vulgar comments about women was released, but before the Sunday night debate.

When third party candidates are added to the question, Clinton leads Trump by 11 points, 46-35, with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 9 points and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 2 points.

Clinton doubled her lead over Trump in a head-to-head matchup since last month's NBC/WSJ poll. In September, Clinton led Trump by seven points, 48-41, in a head-to-head matchup among likely voters. And when third party candidates were added to the question in the September NBC/WSJ poll, Clinton led Trump by six points, 43-37.

For a while, we thought a lot of Americans would flee to Canada should Trump be elected, but with less than 30 before the election, and with Trump being Trump, that doesn't look like it will happen.

skudrunner,

"As to trumps words on tape I do agree it was locker room banter."

No. What he said was boasting about sexual assault. I don't care that you agree with the anti-women who call it "locker room banter."

And is this locker room banter?:

TRUMP: "My daughter is beautiful, Ivanka."
STERN: "By the way, your daughter."
TRUMP: "She's beautiful."
STERN: "Can I say this? A piece of ass."
TRUMP: "Yeah."

Or just a narcissistic pig, enjoying hearing another pig essentially saying his daughter is "screwable?" Because you and I know the meaning of a lecherous man saying that about a young woman -- and Ivanka would have been in her early twenties when that "banter" took place.

I actually find that as bad or even worse than what Trump said on the bus to Billy Bush because it is a sickening insight into how psychologically damaged Trump is. The conversation between Trump and Stern before those words were spoken was about Ivanka's breasts, FFS! A father talking about his daughter's breasts to a pig like Stern, then allows Stern to say that young daughter is "a piece of ass?"

Are you a father of a daughter? I'm the mother of a daughter. What kind of parent does that?

Tell me your excuse for that sort of "banter."

Ducky's here said...

The Orange Man is going to take the low road again, big news.

Frankly, I can't imagine that anyone's undecided at this point.

I was surprised to find out that the sick little sycophant, Billy Bush, is Jeb's cousin.

Tell me when your going to stop dropping that Bull shit, are you that scared of TRUMP ?
I guess you are!

skudrunner said...

Disgusting would be an accurate and yes I have daughters so are lovely.

It is amazing how the no morals left is all moral about the right. Amazing that 50 million watched 50 shades of gray and nothing was said about how disgusting it was, was it because I didn't see it

Les Carpenter said...

For some it's just boys being boys, I guess.

As a father of a daughter I also find it revolting.

I don't think skudrunner thinks a lot of stuff through.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ducky: "Frankly, I can't imagine that anyone's undecided at this point."

Neither can I. People have had 16 months to get to know these two candidates. If they still are undecided, they don't have any understanding about the issues, and it's unlikely they ever will.

skudrunner: "It is amazing how the no morals left is all moral about the right. Amazing that 50 million watched 50 shades of gray and nothing was said about how disgusting it was, was it because I didn't see it"

I would question the morals of someone who is so arrogant that he claims millions and millions of people he's never met have "no morals."

Do the righties all get together and decided on an analogy that makes no sense, is entirely irrational, but most of all, stupid? Because I've read this thing about women who've read "50 Shades of Gray" not being disgusted by that soft porn, but they are disgusted over what Trump said about grabbing a woman's genitals.

Please tell me you're not serious and that you just had an attack of brain flatulence that made you repeat that as though it were a logical comparison.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN: "As a father of a daughter I also find it revolting."

All mentally healthy fathers would find Howard Stern's lecherous comment about Trump's daughter revolting.

That Trump didn't and that he actually said it was okay for Stern to say that about Ivanka is proof to me that Trump is psychologically damaged.

Here's another way to look at it:

What if Hillary had a young son and there was an audio tape of her and some Hollywood gossip maven talking about the size of the son's "package." And what if that Hollywood gossip maven asked Hillary -- the mother -- if it was alright to say looking at her son's body made her "hot and ready?"

What would the world think of Hillary Clinton had she engaged in such talk.

I'll tell you. The world would say she was sick!

skudrunner said...

Sorry to disappoint but I am not a rightie I am a fiscal conservative who is a Jill Stein supporter.
It does appear that it is OK for -H- to call a women a slut after her husband sexually assaulted her but when the media brings up something that was said a decade ago it is horrible.
