Bomb Cyclone Riley Slams Boston
A BOMB CYCLONE BRINGS MASSIVE FLOODING TO NEW ENGLAND—AGAIN
From Boston to Portland, Maine, January’s “bomb cyclone” broke long-standing flood records set during the Blizzard of ‘78. This weekend’s storm could be worse. Eastern Massachusetts is expected to get up to five inches of rain, but it's the three to five feet of storm surge that will cause the biggest flooding problems. Because it's such a slow-mover, the storm will stick around for several tidal cycles.
This is just beginning to look like the new normal. Nor’easters are now to blame for 90 percent of Boston’s biggest floods, with 13 of the top 20 events having occurred since 2000. As climate change drives up ocean temperatures, these winter cyclones are expected to get stronger too. Rising sea levels will bring those destructive storm surges into with more and more homes, businesses, and other critical infrastructure.
This is Christopher Columbus Park, where I walk almost every day:
East Boston:
Watertown, Mass.
Although I live just up the street from Boston Harbor, we had no flooding in our immediate neighborhood, nor did we lose power. Lots of wind and rain, but not much else.
My friends visiting from France found this all very exciting. Back in their country, they had snow and ice.

Stay safe, Shaw! We just had to deal with the 60-70 mph winds today and tonight. Knock on wood I haven't lost power either except for a few flickers. Cable and internet out, though. Had a pretty large tree in back yard just hanging over my shed being held up by vines connected to other trees. Wind shifted and tree finally came down missing my shed by a couple of feet.
Here's hoping power lasts the night and winds die down a bit.

My son's car will likely be totaled. A tree fell on it. And his front yard looks like a tornado passed through.
That in West Springfield, MA.
RN, I'm so sorry. This storm was brutal! I'm glad your son suffered no personal injury.
Possumlady, Although my condo is quite close to Boston Harbor, my immediate neighborhood was not flooded. However, a few blocks away from me was a different story. The first photo is one of those areas. There were two high tides that devastated many parts of coastal Massachusetts.
France, Italy, and Egypt all had snow. But according to Lord Dampnut, climate change is a hoax.
Shaw... glad to hear you're alright.
RN... will insurance cover the car or will you get hit with the "act of God" clause that allows business to avoid taking care of clients?
Glad to hear you're high and dry, Shaw. Good luck to you and RN and all the folks out Bay State way.
Climate change? Blame it on the bosa nova
Glad you didn't get flooded, shaw.
There was no serious damage in my area. A couple inches of rain and some hig gusts but no tree damage or even street flooding.
I'm one of the lucky ones.
What do your visitors think of Lord Dampnut?

The husband has been coming to the U.S. since he was 6 years old, he's now 47. Both he and his wife are astounded that someone like Trump could be the American president. They see him as a clown and corrupt. The family of three love the U.S., their son is 11 and a devoted fan of the Red Sox, and has been speaking English since he was 8 years old.
Dave... My son told me his insurance will cover it. However it appears they will most likely total the car.
The tree was on the tree belt and my son, as well as his neighbors, registered concerns over the size of the tree as well as the fact part of the tree was dead. My son's home escaped the tree hitting the house but his neighbors weren't as fortunate.
Ducky and Shaw... France should get too smug... Marine La Pen is rebranding her Nazi past to appear more centrist and acceptable. We'll see how that works out soon enough.
Well Dave, a rebranding is generally not a sign that things have been going well.
Yes indeed, we'll soon hear her at the party convention announcing the new name and "vision" for the future.

Rassmussen is ONE POLL. And it skews right. The average from several polls, including Rassmussen, shows that Trump is still in the 30s, which means a majority of Americans thinks he stinks.
Nice try.
Go back to WYD where you Trump cultists belong.
Hope you dry out soon which I am sure you will. Looking at Logan it looked like they had a rough few days and a lot of people had to extend their stays. The food makes the extended stay fine as long as the North end is dry.
