When someone asks why we've become a second-rate country under Trump, point to these people:

The creepy NRA worshipers photoshopped an image of Emma Gonzalez that showed her ripping up the Constitution when in fact the original photo showed her ripping up a firing range bulls-eye target.

Yeah, the "Jesus Loves You" crowd blasphemed a young woman who survived a massacre and who is exercising her Constitutional right to demonstrate for change.

But the righties, who have a lot in common with certain gangs in 1930s Germany, will have none of it. If an American kid who was traumatized by a rampaging killer wants to join and lead a movement for laws that support universal background checks, banning the sale of AR-15s and bump stocks, the extremists on the right will do all in their power to discredit, debase, and dishonor those who've lived through the blood bath and those who died in it.

Those are Trumpistas. Plain and simple minded.

And they are on the losing side of history.

We promise.

Fake photo of Emma González goes viral on far right, where Parkland teens are villains

A doctored animation of González tearing the U.S. Constitution in half circulated on social media during the rally, after it was lifted from a Teen Vogue story about teenage activists. In the real image, González is ripping apart a gun-range target.

The doctored image mushrooming across social media appeared to confirm the belief among Second Amendment absolutists that calls for stricter gun-control measures are sacrosanct, destroying the very foundation of the United States. The animation bounced around conservative Twitter before it received a signal boost Saturday from actor Adam Baldwin.

I marched in the demonstration on Boston Common along with 50,000 other Americans, and I can attest that the crowds were peaceful, polite, and absolutely determined for change. Boston's police commissioner, Bill Evans, reported there was no violence and no arrests.

There were, however, a few, very few, exceptions to the overall polite  and friendly crowd. And those who opposed the demonstration for change came with their own signs and their own agendas.

Here's one of them. This is, after all, the Trump era, and he most definitely represents what Trump has inspired in his people:

A PROUD TRUMPISTA

If you have to hold up a sign to get your dick sucked, you are a real loser...and it ain’t gonna work.

Jerry, or pay women $130,000 so they won't talk about a "mini corn dog."*

From the Rude Pundit:

Crazed Trump supporters and gun-humping conservatives are scared shitless by Gonzalez. They have attacked her looks and sexuality (the aforementioned "skinhead lesbian" remark that led to its speaker, a Republican - duh - to drop out of his race for Congress), photoshopped her tearing a copy of the Constitution (which was really a shooting range target), and criticized her for wearing a Cuban flag on her jacket (her father is from Cuba). Hell, craven scum fuck Rep. Steve King got in on the act, saying that Gonzalez was "ignor[ing] the fact that your ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp." To which one can only say, "Asshole, that flag has been flying in Cuba since 1902. Should German-Americans never hang up a flag from their ancestors' country?"

This is the point where a rational pro-gun group would stand down, where rational pro-gun members of Congress would say, "Okay, let's negotiate," but these are not rational people. They are hideous money-engorging monsters who thrive on irrational fear and fake machismo. You can stand with them or you can stand with the vast majority of Americans who want gun control. You can stand with the desiccated, weary visage of the NRA's Wayne LaPierre or you can stand strong with Gonzalez.

Gonzalez didn't ask to become a superhero any more than Peter Parker asked to be bitten by a spider. She chose to take her pain and, along with her fellow students, turn it into courage and righteous anger. May we be a better nation because of it.

What could be sadder than a guy who has to beg for pleasure by holding up a sign in a public park?

R.D., He's a Trumpista. They have to beg. Or pay for it.

Pierce: "It is easy to dismiss children who march. It is easy to drown out their voices in adult condescension. It’s even easy to portray them as damaged puppets in the hands of shadowy political masters. That’s what the other side said in Birmingham. That’s what the other side said in Soweto. But the children who spoke on Saturday know more about gun violence than any of the smug voices telling them to shut up and heal. So dismiss them, if you must. History will laugh at you one day."

Shaw... let's indeed point to the people who for years railed against the coarsening of society, yet now see no irony now in that their standard bearer is a serial user of coarse language, lives almost daily bad behavior and exhibits through the looking glass viewpoints on almost every important issue of the day

Perhaps what's even more amazing is that many Trumpistas openly admit Trump lies, but then blame the media for pointing it out! Like it's the media's fault for reporting the lies that Trump and his Admin spew everyday.

Again, it wasn't too long ago the GOP believed that their leaders, and indeed all of America's leaders, should exhibit good moral character, not lie and be generally honorable people.

Now? Not so much...

What could be sadder? The person that agrees to do it.

If anyone should be depicted as tearing up the Constitution, it's Trump. He's attacked practically every aspect of the First Amendment.

As for the guy in the photo, remember what Scaramucci (while he was White House communications director) said about Bannon. A fish rots from the head down, and the tone of vulgarity is set the same way.

Re: the March for Our Lives

Anyone my age (68 or so) remembers the Vietnam war as uncomfortably close to home because of the draft. We were all at risk. You were very conscious of your lottery number (#132 here, which made me white meat). You knew when your student deferment was up. You knew about the possibilities of medical deferment. You perhaps even considered emigration to Canada or Scandinavia, or even draft resistance involving a year and a half in prison. And, of course, you knew about the brutality and dubiousness of the war. Meanwhile, you participated in 'shelter area drills', the duck-and-cover exercises, the 'civil defense' theater bringing global war possibilities closer to home. Made you stop and think, that.

The students today are in effect drafted. The conflict is here. They all know that no school can be presumed safe, not rural, not urban, not suburban, not grade school nor college. They drill against the possibility, making the threat seem that much more imminent. And deferments aren't available. All that might concentrate the mind. Especially as NRA demands for unfettered gun distribution are much closer to home and more dubious even than the Vietnam war.

Every 'battle' in this war, I think, has the capacity to energize the young. 800,000 in the streets is a bigger demonstration than ever occurred against the Vietnam war. I'm not ready to be sanguine (perhaps a poor choice of words). In particular, I dread the possibility of a 'Tet offensive' of mass casualties inflicted by previously responsible gun owners. But I'm thinking...

Just wanted to say good for Bob Kraft. I believe he was a supporter of Trump, but he's on the right side of the gun issue.
