Democrats Take The House!

Let the subpoenas begin!

The US is no longer a one-party country.

Nancy Pelosi is back as Speaker of the House.

The shenanigans by Georgia's attorney-general in suppressing the vote were successful in keeping Stacy Abrams from winning, and we all know how crooked Florida is, so it is no surprise that Gillam lost. At this time, the Nelson -- Scott contest is still too close to call.

Beto O'Rourke gave Ted Cruz a damn good scare. It is astounding that the contest was so close in a state that is so red. It would have been like seeing Senator Elizabeth Warren come close to losing in blue, blue, Massachusetts to an young upstart red candidate. Completely unimaginable. Good going Beto! You did very, very well.

And congrats to the Democrats who picked up the governorships! The Dems gained SEVEN; the Republicans lost seven! Well done

Kobach's gone, Scott Walker's gone, a record number of women are in the House, Adam Schiff now has subpoena power, and Maxine Waters gets to look at Trump's tax returns. It was a pretty good night!

BTW: House means Mueller is protected. I’ll take it!

100 WOMEN IN THE HOUSE!

New York Times:
Propelled by an unusually high turnout that illustrated the intensity of the backlash against Mr. Trump, Democrats claimed at least 26 House seats on the strength of their support in suburban and metropolitan districts that were once bulwarks of Republican power but where voters have recoiled from the president’s demagoguery on race. Early Wednesday morning Democrats clinched the 218 House seats needed to take control. There were at least 15 additional tossup seats that had yet to be called.

HAUNT #45'S DREAMS, MAXINE! LOL!

Texas isn't really as red as people think. With its giant urban areas and large Hispanic population, it should be a swing state. But the problem of depressed turnout among minorities has long been especially acute there, keeping the state much redder politically than it is demographically. A really determined GOTV effort could turn it purple. Beto showed that.

Let the subpoenas begin!

Yes, let them get busy doing what we elected them to do -- fight back against Trump!

tRump is smiling I bet. The Senate picked up 2 red seats, He Now has the built in excuse that dems are obstructing his agenda, and if the economy slows down, well, it's the democrats fault. tRump will play it like a fiddle.

Interesting night... Back to Mueller. And we wait...

I never believed the Democrats would take back the Senate but I am disappointed and disgusted that Cruz and King hung on. Scott Walker losing in WI almost makes up for it though.

Infidel753, I'm taking last night's victories by the Democrats as very good news. We've put the brakes on the run-away disaster train that is Trump!

RN Trump can whine about "obstruction" all he wants. I'm more interested in seeing his tax returns to know why he's been so secretive about keeping them away from the public. Also, Mueller is protected. We still await what he's found out.

possumlady Be joyful! We won the HOUSE! And 100 women won! There's a lot to be happy about.

Trump is claiming victory on the loss of the House and 7 governorships! AHAHAHAHA! He's just being his usual jackass self.

No matter what President Porn Star Shaggers bleats out, this was a WIN for the Democrats!

I agree Shaw. It was a very good day for the Dems. I especially love the fact that Maxine Waters will be breathing down President Bone Spurs neck!

Considering the state of the economy it went about as well as could be expected. That was a good showing flipping that many governorships.

now to subpoena his tax records.

Nobody I voted for won, as is almost always the case. TN now has a trumpy governor who ran on having no experience... just like tRump. As for his tax returns, I've heard that tRump is going to ignore the House subpoena and take it to the Supreme Court, confident that the conservative justices will rule in his favor.

Karma won last night!

We will now see if the state of the nation relative to political discourse gets better or deteriorates further. Given EVERYTHING I'm reading from both sides we should prepare for a much worse situation.

President - Republican
Senate - Stronger Republican
House - Democrat
SCOTUS - Conservative/Republican

The House can impeach but the Senate is solidly pro tRump.

I see deadlock, gridlock, and constant fingure pointing.

It is what it is. A democratic republic in decline with NO end in sight.

The Dems won the House popular vote by about 9%. The last time that happened was in’08 when the economy was crashing! The fact that the economy is OK and unemployment is very low, this big of a majority in the overall popular vote is huge and is a very positive indicator for the 2020 statewide and national elections where only state total votes count.

Kim Davis lost her Rowan County, KY clerk position to a Democrat! More Karma!

We'll have to wait and see Jerry. I hope you're right. But, I've become perhaps the worlds biggest cynic. Touche and away!

Well gang...

It was a good night for the House. Now, let's see how they respond. Hoyer, a million year old fossil has announced he wants to challenge Pelosi. Seriously? Let's change out one old person for another old person?

If we're gonna change, it's got to younger.

In spite of the win, here's where many Dems are not looking... Ohio and Florida. Sure the Dems rebuilt the famed "Blue Wall" of Michigan and Wisconsin, but how do they now capture the presidency?

To win the WH, you need to win 2 of 3 between Florida, Ohio and PA. Which two, based on the last two elections can the Dems win?

I just don't see it and there goes the presidency. Our best case? Keep the House and Capture the Senate in 2020. Cement those gains in 2022 and get the Presidency in 2024. In the ashes of the GOP.

Les Carpenter said...

I don't really see all that happening Dave. Unless there is a major economic dislocation OR, tRump brings us yet another ill begotten conflict in which Americans die. With the Senate and SCOTUS firmly in conservative/republican territory for the foreseeable future, and, with middle, southwest, and south reliably republican I think we have 6 more years of tRump and the dastardly republicans. American politics really brings out the cynic in me.

It may be time to shut down the noise, turn off the TV, burn the newspapers, kill the computer, and move to Costa Rica.

Dervish Sanders said...

After the tRump recession hits the voters will be looking to dump him asap. The next president (elected in 2020) will be a Democrat. He should certainly be impeached and removed. But that depends on what Mueller reports. If he is allowed to report. From what I can see he is far more corrupt than Nixon.

Jerry Critter said...

I think Trump is a combination of the worst of both Nixon and Agnew.

The results are the best we could ask for. It was a blue ripple instead of a wave like 2010 and we all win. The republicans can tout they picked up seats in the senate, the democrats can rally thet they took the house and the American people can rally that for the next two years nothing will be done because of grid lock.

I am shocked the wave didn't happen because with a 21% approval rating and the
entire media in trump attack mode it should have been as bad as 2010.
With the brilliant maxine in charge of finance we can rest assured the economy will sink

Congratulation to all on the blog for your victory. We now have republican crooks being replaced by democrat crooks and nothing will be done to benefit anyone but them.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Actually, skud, you're uninformed. Again:

The 2018 midterm elections brought significant gains for Democrats, who retook the House of Representatives and snatched several governorships from the grip of Republicans.

[skip]

Among the most eye-catching was a statistic showing Democrats led Republicans by more than 12 million votes in Senate races, and yet still suffered losses on the night and failed to win a majority of seats in the chamber.

There are more Democratic/liberal voters than there are conservative/Republican. But the way we select Senators doesn't reflect that.

The fact that so many WOMEN, including minority women, won is also indicative of a large wave.

Your puppet master, President Porn Star Shagger, had to make it about himself and lie that HE WON! The majority of Americans laugh at him as does the world.

skudrunner said...

I am glad there are more are more women elected because men have done a horrible job of running the country. Now we need a women president, maybe Nikki, to round out the field.
I am trying to figure out your statement the way we select senators doesn't reflect that. Total vote count, no electoral college and it is still not fair. I guess if democrats took the senate it would have been fair.

I would worry more about our head of finance who didn't know putting her family on the federal dole was not legal, trying to incite riots and is dumb as a rock.

Now the house will go after djt's tax returns which he does not have to provide just so they can mock, spend millions investigating him to find nothing illegal and stall any growth for the next two years. We do have the best government money and power can bribe.

Do something different, become an independent and choose who is best for the job, the yellow paint will wear off and dog will forgive.
