Ross Douthat, Conservative Columnist: Donald Trump: A Tower of Absolute Folly

Ross Douthat, not my favorite conservative, in the NYTimes today, mincing no words:

"Donald Trump’s campaign against his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, in which he is seemingly attempting to insult and humiliate and tweet-shame Sessions into resignation, is an insanely stupid exercise. It is a multitiered tower of political idiocy, a sublime monument to the moronic, a gaudy, gleaming, Ozymandian folly that leaves many of the president’s prior efforts in its shade...

'[Trump] is nonetheless clearly impaired, gravely deficient somewhere at the intersection of reason and judgment and conscience and self-control. Pointing this out is wearying and repetitive, but still it must be pointed out.

'You can be as loyal as Jeff Sessions and still suffer the consequences of that plain and inescapable truth:

This president should not be the president, and the sooner he is not, the better."

Can I get a million likes for that?

It's too bad Trump is probably too culturally illiterate to understand "Ozymandian folly" or most of the rest of what Douthat is saying.

I hope others to whom Trump might offer a high appointment are watching this. Trump is said to value loyalty most of all, but few have been as loyal as Sessions -- and yet for deviating from Trump's wishes on a single point, he's being trashed. Anyone who climbs into this scorpion-pit administration will eventually suffer the same fate.

Infidel753 -- Trump is this classic warning:

"He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas"

Flea-bitten Sessions: Personally, I have no pity for him. He's getting what he deserves for hitching his wagon to a malignant narcissist and fraud.

has trump figured out that he's transformed sessions from being a national disgrace to almost being a national hero?

But didn't XPBHO do the same thing to a active general for one of his staff saying BHO was incompetent. Guess it is different.

What are you talking about Skud? Do you have a link to what you're claiming?

Every time you come here you use "OBAMA DID IT TOO!"

If there's one thing a majority of Americans and our allies agree on it is that President Obama was a dignified, intelligent, and knowledgeable president and that Trump is a disgraceful, incompetent, immature, malignant narcissist who is a national embarrassment.

And yes. Trump's behavior over the past 6 months IS different. There has been no American president as horrid as he has been. May I remind you that President Obama was not being criminally investiged by the FBI or a special counsel six months into his presidency.

Trump is abnormal. The sooner he's gone and back in his tacky golden tower insulting women, military heroes, the media and anyone who won't kiss his large disgusting ass and NOT defiling the American presidency the better.

If Skudrunner is referring to Gen McCrystal, he is also correct that it is different. Accepting a resignation after McC bad mouthed Biden is a hair different (sarcastic eye roll) than daily childish tweets badmouthing your own appointed Attorney General for UPHOLDING THE LAW!

Clearly, when some big real estate moguls try to run a government they produce
WrestleMania: great for ratings, terrible for citizens. Gerrymandering and voter suppression concentrates power and folly.

And you get this as well, BB-Idaho:

TRUMP SAYS ‘ILLEGALS’ ARE HERE TO CHOP UP TEEN GIRLS WITH KNIVES BECAUSE SHOOTING THEM ISN’T PAINFUL ENOUGH
