AND THE DARWIN AWARD GOES TO...

Darwin Awards: The Darwin Awards are a tongue-in-cheek honour, originating in Usenet newsgroup discussions around 1985. They recognise individuals who have supposedly contributed to human evolution by selecting themselves out of the gene pool via death or sterility by their own actions.

Man Who Called Ohio's Lockdown Order 'Bullshit' Has Succumbed To COVID-19

John McDaniel railed on social media against Ohio's Gov. Mike DeWine's lockdown order .

Weeks later he contracted the virus.

A few days ago he died.

****************

Texas woman claimed COVID-19 is a media hoax & can be stopped by “faith.”

Days later she died.

She said more people have died in cross-stitching accidents than coronavirus infections.
\
Now COVID-19 has killed her.

And many right wing bloggers are of the same mentality. Their freedumbs demand that they be able to get out and get on with their lives so they, too, can earn a Darwin award.

They believe in preserving their freedom to die a nasty death.

If it were just them risking their own lives, I'd say go ahead and give into your suicidal wishes; but, unfortunately, their selfish stupidity would affect innocent women, men, and children who actually value their lives and understand that "freedom" is worthless when you're DEAD.

Here's a poster seen at a Michigan "End the Lockdown" rally:

(I can't determine if the above is real or a fake notice put up by tricksters. Anyone?)

When your "freedumbs" get you sick:

Poetic Justice?

It's fine to protest but show some intelligence and responsibility in doing so. America's lack of humility in the face of this merciless virus is evident in the death tolls: 37,000 to date. It's a slap in the face to the health care workers who will have to risk their lives to save them when they end up in the ER. Trump is ultimately to blame for it all. He embodies callous rebellion at the worst possible time but obviously he doesn't care. We've been cursed having to bear this pandemic with him at the helm.

40,941 deaths @ 3:23 PM 4/20/2020 and continuing to climb.

I'll appropriately pass on this years 420 celebration. It just doesn't seem right given current circumstances.

I agree with you RN.

This time of year was always a big deal here in the historic North End. The Old North Church held a service, and many of the congregants who attended dressed in colonial costumes. After the service, the lanterns were put in the steeple and a man dressed as Paul Revere came on horse back to the Old North Church, and rode off toward Charlestown. We also had fife and drum musicians, and some players dressed as British Regulars. (Paul Revere never said "The British are coming!" because at that time, he was British. He called out as he rode toward Menotomy, "The Regulars are coming!")

That would take place on April 18. Then we'd have the Boston Marathon and my neighborhood would be filled with runners from all over the world.

We've lost that this year.

And that's a shame. But necessary.

Effective testing was not developed. Medical supplies, masks and protective suits were not procured. Trump was furious in late February when a blunt warning from a senior health official contributed to a market dive.

“One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear,” Trump said of the virus on Feb. 27. On March 7, guests danced in a conga line at Mar-a-Lago as Trump hosted family and his buddy-in-bravado, President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, who has called the virus “a little flu.”
Seven weeks later, the plague so cavalierly dismissed has taken the lives of at least 30,000 in the United States. The number of jobless claims has reached 22 million. The Dow has sunk. Wall Street will not save Trump. Time for a Plan B. More on that later.

When the Pearl Harbor Commission on this American catastrophe convenes, even Trump the perennial escape artist will not be able to slither from history’s judgment.

Deaths are now over 41,931 and growing. Tennessee and Georgia are reopening by end of this week. The two states have not went the 14 days witout and increase. Of course Dotard has been encouraging the protests even though HIS OWN guidelines for reopening have NOT BEEN MET.

History WILL indeed judge Dotard very harshly. As it should.

RN and yet, daily, the trolls from WYD come here with their weak droppings, wanting me to change the subject, because they don't want to see what a miserable failure their hero, Trump has been through this whole pandemic.

It is instructive to note that none of the trolls refute what I post. No. Their only comment is that "it's getting old."

Think about what sort of human beings they are: They're tired of hearing about Trump's failures that cause the deaths of their fellow Americans, and want me to change the subject.

Clearwater "Trump is ultimately to blame for it all. He embodies callous rebellion at the worst possible time but obviously he doesn't care. We've been cursed having to bear this pandemic with him at the helm."

Of course he's to blame. His followers went bonkers during the Ebola crisis when, tragically, two people died. TWO. We now have almost 50,000 (that we know of) dead, and his mind-infected cultists say nothing. Some of them still trashing President Obama! That's how deranged and sick they are.

The only satisfaction for us is that Trump will be the downfall of the present GOP, and maybe a better, smarter, more humane GOP will rise from the ashes. After that, we must fumigate the fetid fumes Trump, his family, and his sycophants will have left in D.C.

Very soon, and I pray it does not happen...

In red Republican states, we will see teams go out,
and check various remote homes, and maybe smaller
towns...and they won't find anyone alive.

Every person there will be dead,
either directly from,
or complications of the virus.

I dearly hope that I'm wrong.

Shaw... here's the issue as it relates to Covid-19 and people's rights.

Person A has a right to live his life as he so chooses with certain restrictions.

Person B does too.

What happens when the rights of those two people intersect?

How do we determine who wins out in scenarios like this?

Does the majority hold sway? Does the common good? The common welfare? Does the government have the right to impose restrictions on those rights for the good of society? And who determines what is good for society?

As we have become more connected by the internet, affordable travel and such, these are the questions that are bumping into the reality where most of us live. I think progressives can engage in these types of conversations, bargaining for trade offs. I'm not sure Trumpistas will.

So the same group who said he was a racist for closing the borders now say he didn't do it soon enough. Remember back in 2009 when the borders were not closed, banks we not encouraged to lend and people were left in the dark about what was going on.

No I do not approve of trumps daily reelection speech but I wasn't in favor of the daily death count during the Vietnam war either. Maybe the media would better serve their audience by giving the entire picture, how many new cases, how many hospitalized, how many deaths and how many recovered.

Maybe the democrats can come up with a plan or their presumptive leader can put together a plan instead of just saying trump was late to take action. If he had started earlier we would have roasted him for being a racist and fear monger. He didn't start earlier which benefits us because we can say wouda, coulda, shoulda.

Dave. my parents told me that during WW II, they were ordered to darken their windows (they lived on the coast) and people who did not comply were subjected to fines, as I understood it.

When I started grammar school, my parents had to prove that I had been vaccinated against smallpox before I could enter public school.

We are not allowed to drive without insurance or a license, or we will be fined for not doing so.

I cannot sit in my car at 1 AM and blast loud, rap music and disturb the peace.

We are all free to live our lives, except when our lives threaten the whole of society.

It's a compact we, as social beings, make with each other.

What could be more important than quarantining ourselves to 1) prevent ourselves from contracting a terrible disease and add to the already overstressed ORs in the local hospitals; or 2) inadvertently passing on (because of lack of testing available) to an older person or a person whose immune system is compromised?

Do we care about each other? Or only ourselves. If the answer is "only ourselves," then we're lost and no longer "one nation indivisable."

Also, I believe these weak little protests have been organized by Trump-supporting groups, and that they were not spontaneous actions of "freedum" fighters.

We have a selfish idiot for POTUS. If some of these red states do open up too soon and more Americans become infected and die, Trump and the red state governors will bear the blame. All of it.

Les Carpenter said...

I think your right Shaw. The protests are organized and supported by pro Dotard agitators. I saw something yesterday that made the case. A little research prlbably will turn up more info on this.
