General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

From The Lincoln Project, by George Conway (Real Republican) -- Kellyanne's husband.

Apropo for April Fools' Day, George Conway wrote this about Trump:

"For Trump supporters, let me make one thing VERY clear! For the record NO ONE is blaming the President for the virus. Let me repeat. Coronavirus is not Trump’s fault.

Here’s a detailed list of what we are blaming him for:

* Trump declined to use the World Health Organization’s test like other nations. Back in January, over a month before the first Co-vid19 case, the Chinese posted a new mysterious virus and within a week, Berlin virologists had produced the first diagnostic test. By the end of February, the WHO had shipped out tests to 60 countries. Oh, but not our government. We declined the test even as a temporary bridge until the CDC could create its own test. The question is why? We don’t know but what to look for is which pharmaceutical company eventually manufactures the test and who owns the stock. Keep tuned.

* In 2018 Trump fired Homeland Security Advisor Tom Bossart, whose job was to coordinate a response to global pandemics. He was not replaced.

* In 2018 Dr. Luciana Borio, the NSC director for medical and bio-defense preparedness left the job. Trump did not replace Dr. Borio.

* In 2019 the NSC’s Senior Director for Global Health Security and bio-defense, Tim Ziemer, left the position and Trump did not replace the Rear Admiral.

* Trump shut down the entire Global Health Security and Bio-defense agency. Yes, he did.

* Amid the explosive worldwide outbreak of the virus Trump proposed a 19% cut to the budget of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention plus a 10% cut to Public Health Services and a 7% cut to Global Health Services. Those happen to be the organizations that respond to public health threats.

* In 2018, at Trump’s direction, the CDC stopped funding epidemic prevention activities in 39 out of 49 countries including China.

* Trump didn’t appoint a doctor to oversee the US response to the pandemic. He appointed Mike Pence.

* Trump has on multiple occasions sowed doubt about the severity of the virus even using the word hoax at events and rallies. He even did it at an event where the virus was being spread. Trump has put out zero useful information concerning the health risks of the virus.

* Trump pretended the virus had been contained.

* Trump left a cruise ship at sea for days, denying them proper hospital care, rather than increase his numbers in America.

Repeat. We do not blame Trump for the virus.

We blame him for gutting the nation’s preparations to deal with it.
\
We blame him for bungling testing and allowing it to spread uninhibited.

We blame him for wasting taxpayer money on applause lines at his rallies (like The Wall).

We blame him for putting his own political life over American human life.

I hope this clears things up."

And this is why the left cannot join together with the Trumpistas.

Us lefties, despite what many on the extreme right think and believe, would love to see America emerge from this crisis a better nation, a better place. And we would love to partner with anyone who is willing to move forward towards that goal. But, and this is huge, there must be some sort of reckoning that examples like what Conway puts forward, are in fact true.

Because unless we can agree on a consistent set of facts, there is no reason to partner with anyone because those asking to partner are not credible.

The list Conway cites is pretty objective. We can argue about interpretation, but can anyone credibly say our president never said those words? And that is the problem. Trump did say those words, and those words have made this crisis worse.

It's hard to make common cause when people deny the reality staring them in the face...

Dave the commenter who goes by the name of "Gilberto (something, can't remember) called what I report on my blog "lies." I asked him to refute what was reported here. He never returned to answer my challenge. If you read any of the regular far right bloggers, they don't deal in reality or facts. They're blinded by their allegiance to the liar, cheat, and fraud, Trump.

There's no way that I can think of to reach those folks. Gilberto is a prime example.

WHAT DO YOU READERS OF GEEEZ THINK ABOUT LIBERALS AND THE NEGATIVITY THAT’S EVEN MORE OBVIOUS DURING THIS VIRUS MESS? WHY ARE THEY SO SO SO ………NEGATIVE???? To me, it’s against human nature!

Hi D.T., I'll assume you copied that off a far right blog. LOL!

Well, gosh darn it all! When a killer virus is engulfing the entire planet what's wrong with you negative peeps? Get out and celebrate! Have fun! Be Pollyannas! Nothing to see here! It's just a worldwide plague that's shut down everyday living, not to mention the financial markets across the globe!

Isn't that a reason to be positive and celebrate? Especially the part where the POTUS did a piss-poor job of protecting American lives? Let's all be POSITIVE about that too while we're at it!

Okay. That's enough. But seriously, those folks don't DARE utter a negative word that might throw shade on their idol, President "It's all going to go away!" And President We'll Pack The Churches by Easter!

Shaw... I read that blog...

Here's the thinking behind it... The president is trying to be a cheerleader during difficult times for America. And if in that cheerleading, he stretches the truth to help Americans feel safer, or get through it, it is not lying.

That's Rule Number 1.

Rule Number 2. Citing any supposed untruth he said, while acting under Rule Number 1, is just being nasty. See Yamiche Alcindor.

Rule Number 3. Any news that is negative towards Pres Trump, even if accurate, is being negative and evidence that you want America to fail. Because of...

Rule Number 4. All liberals and progressives hate America and want to see the country, and the president fail.

Who knows what it would take to bring the Trumplers back to the norms of reason?
Consider the founder of the Lincoln Project and his Trumpian wife:
...if you think it’s all shtick, some wink-and-nod act by a couple who fights by day and snuggles by night, planning a payday after Mr. Trump leaves the scene, think again, say some people close to America’s oddest political couple. “Those who think this is a 14-dimensional chess game are mistaken,” said Rick Wilson, who with Mr. Conway and several other Republicans formed the Lincoln Project, an effort to beat Mr. Trump in the 2020 election. Mr. Conway “has taken unequivocal and irreversible actions that have established his bona fides as someone who opposes Donald Trump, and she’s going to be for Donald Trump until the last dog dies,” he said, adding a question that many Americans have asked themselves about the Conways: “Who knows the secrets of the human heart?”
...George and Kellyanne, a microcosm of the American Curse.

Dave you certainly know those folks, don't you. I've been reading them for years, and, yes, that's their mindset.

That is America. I have a brother in Tennessee who was raised under the same roof as I, and he's a rabid Trumper.

Our father would be appalled.

So much for 'the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree' !
My sister has Alzheimers, she hates Trump but doesn't
remember why. When we talk, I remind her....

Shaw... it's not just Pres Trump. It's the entire party these folks are electing.

Today, in a statement to his state, Georgia Gov Brian Kemp said, and I quote...

"[We are] finding out that this virus is now transmitting before people see signs. Those individuals could have been infecting people before they ever felt bad, but we didn’t know that until the last 24 hours...

How is this possible? Let's just take him at his word, that in fact, not a month ago, not a week ago, but yesterday, he learned that Covid-19 can be asymptomatic. That means he, along with his administration, is the dumbest governor in our country. That he does not listen to even President Trump's medical advisors, that he has chosen to be willfully ignorant, that he values politics more than learning difficult facts that would challenge his political views.

He should be removed for abject stupidity.

Brian Kemp... the face of the Republican Party. With not an elephant logo, but an ostrich.

BB-Idaho My late husband was suffering from Alzheimer's when Trump ran for the presidency, and he passed 10 months after the election. He used to ask me every time after watching Trump on the news, "How long has that idiot been president?"
