This is what Donald J. Trump did to America

Fintan O’Toole: Donald Trump has destroyed the country he promised to make great again

“THE WORLD HAS LOVED, HATED AND ENVIED THE U.S. NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE PITY IT

"Over more than two centuries, the United States has stirred a very wide range of feelings in the rest of the world: love and hatred, fear and hope, envy and contempt, awe and anger. But there is one emotion that has never been directed towards the US until now: pity.

However bad things are for most other rich democracies, it is hard not to feel sorry for Americans. Most of them did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016. Yet they are locked down with a malignant narcissist who, instead of protecting his people from Covid-19, has amplified its lethality. The country Trump promised to make great again has never in its history seemed so pitiful.

Will American prestige ever recover from this shameful episode? The US went into the coronavirus crisis with immense advantages: precious weeks of warning about what was coming, the world’s best concentration of medical and scientific expertise, effectively limitless financial resources, a military complex with stunning logistical capacity and most of the world’s leading technology corporations. Yet it managed to make itself the global epicentre of the pandemic.

As the American writer George Packer puts it in the current edition of the Atlantic, “The United States reacted ... like Pakistan or Belarus – like a country with shoddy infrastructure and a dysfunctional government whose leaders were too corrupt or stupid to head off mass suffering.”  --Fintan O'Toole, Irish Times

***************************

Trump never wanted to make America great again; he wanted to make himself great again. The former reality tv show host and failed casino owner needed another schtick to keep his name in the media and to get more attention than his divorces, infidelities, cheating, lying personal and business life could give him. So why not run for the presidency?

With no experience in government, (hell, not even a grammar school child's knowledge of America's representative democracy), the guy who filed for bankruptcy for his businesses SIX TIMES, and who cheated on all three wives -- that guy put himself out there to lead the most technologically advanced and most powerful country in the world.  And a minority of Americans thought that would be a great idea. Also wouldn't it be great to "stick it to the libtards?"  Now those voters have stuck it to themselves. But good.

In 3+ short years, Trump has managed to make America a pitied and ridiculed nation because of his colossal incompetence, mendacious bravado, and malignant narcissism. Those of us who saw through Trump's lies and deceptions now watch as a nation, unprepared for the worse pandemic in 100+ years, is brought to its knees, unnecessarily, because of its president who refused to listen to the experts in infectious disease and who didn't plan for what that disease could do to America.

All Trump has offered during this harrowing time is self-congratulations for his miserable response to the pandemic, and stupid, even fatal suggestions for curing the virus. Not only does Trump know nothing about how government works, he knows even less about virology and curative applications for the deadly Covid-19. What Trump is good at (and what has been ruinous to America) is his ability to ignore expert advice and to promote himself as an expert on everything because, as Trump often brags, he's a stable genius.

Look at where that got us: We lead the world in Covid-19 infections and deaths.

That's how Trump made America great again.

VOTE HIM OUT IN NOVEMBER! And take the Republican Senate with him!

Trump: My Idea to Inject Disinfectant Was a Prank on Reporters ‘Just to See What Would Happen’

That's the GOP president trying to lie himself out of his stupid disinfection idea for fighting C-19.

Now he's saying it was a "prank" to see what would happen? JHC! People who support him took that stupid idea to heart and a spike in poison control centers happened. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED!

What kind of a sick, deaseased mind pulls a "prank" during a pandemic where the country he leads leads the world in infections and deaths?

A lot of Trump supporters come here to read my blog. I'd like to know how they reconcile Trump's deadly suggestion as a "prank" to what that "prank" caused his supporters.

(To the best of my knowledge, no anti-Trumper would take his advice on ANYTHING, so Trump harmed his own supporters (cultists) with his reckless stupidity.)

It will take a succession of multiple terms (4 to 6) of Democrats to fix this mess this dumbass and the ones who enabled him in order to get this country back into great working order and in the world's eye view as a leader on the main stage. We are in for a lot of hard work ahead. As of November 3rd when he and Senate republicans including Mc Connel lose the vote by a landslide we should start rolling up our sleeves.

Leanna, I've heard some dire predictions that say we may never be able to recover from the damage Trump and the current Republicans have done to America.

I only know that, like you, we have to rid the country of their destructive policies and the awful man they keep in power.

TRUMP IS A SICK-ASS CREEP!

In particular, both liberals and conservatives ranked Trump high on six personality traits generally considered by professionals to be disordered:

Sadistic. Respondents regardless of political affiliation generally agreed that Trump is a bully who acts aggressively toward anyone he perceives as a threat to his ego.
Narcissistic. They also agreed that he is self-centered and engages in self-aggrandizing behaviors.

Histrionic. Both camps viewed Trump as excessively melodramatic, one who knows how to stir up controversy for personal advantage.

Passive-aggressive. Both sides agree that Trump has overtly negative attitudes about specific persons and groups and that he takes out his aggression through passive means such as obstruction and name-calling rather than direct confrontation.

Paranoid. Respondents on both sides agreed that Trump perceives threats from many quarters; by his words and actions, he shows himself to be on high alert.

Antisocial. Liberals and conservatives alike concurred that Trump has a general disregard for social norms and that he views himself as entitled and above the law.

he’s following the same pattern as a professional gaslighter or a verbal abuser. They turn around the ridiculous/heinous thing they said (after they get called out on it) and blame YOU for not getting that it was a joke all along.

And yes, our local DC news last night started with a report on the local poison control center stating they were getting inundated with calls about ingesting bleach.

Agnes of God said...

The unhinged turned this statement into "Trump tells people to drink bleach:"

“I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute,” Trump said during Thursday’s coronavirus press briefing. “And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets inside the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

Note to the scientifically-stupid press: When you drink something, it doesn't go into your lungs.

Anon is obviously one of those soft-head low-information Democrat voters who must be protected from hearing something he could misinterpret. A howling yapper in the greek chorus actually said this...

“There is an emergency department in America in the week that will probably get a bleach ingestion because of this,” Kass said. “We know that because people are scared and vulnerable, and they’re not going to think it’s that dangerous because they can get it in their house.”

This is the infantile view Democrats have of Americans: Too stupid to know that drinking caustic and poisonous substances is dangerous.

It's a theater of the absurd

Sorry "Agnes" but it's the POTUS who is INFANTILE and who stupidly made a suggestion that a disinfectant could be injected. These are Trump's own words:

“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute — one minute — and is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning?” he asked. “Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

The asshole you're defending is the POTUS and much to your surprise, people listen to him and believe he has some authority in what he says. Now those people, to be sure, are his cultists who think he knows what he's talking about. And, yes, they are stupid enough to think he has credibility in these matters.

So what Trump said was wildly reckles and harmful. He tried to walk it back and say it was a "prank."

What kind of a sadistic person plays a "prank" on people during a pandemic? Can you or any other Trump cultist answer that simple question?

Shaw Kenawe said...

possumlady, as you can see from "Agnes" Trumpers will defend the indefensible and that's because they're cultists.

Trump may not have ACTUALLY said "DRINK BLEACH," but he talked about INJECTING DISINFECTANT. Same difference, eh? Drinking a disinfectant and injecting it, both ways it gets into the body.

It amazes me to watch Trump cultists like Agnes try to tell us what we heard and what we read with our own eyes and ears is not true.

Jeebus, I'll be so happy when Trump and they are reduced to ignominious worthlessness.

Ray Cranston said...

Forget what "Agnes" wrote, she's only trying to cover Trump's useless ass. His cultists will say anything to divert attention to how horrible he is and what a complete failure and incompetent he's been in this pandemic.

Next time some idiot tells you how great a job Trump is doing fighting coronavirus, remind yourself of this. 75% of the worlds covid-19 cases are in the US. 53,000+ Americans are dead. And that is just deaths in medical facilities. If you count those who died at home and we suspect covid-19 was a factor, add 15 to 20% to that number. About 2300 people a day die from this. And the rate is still rising. Expect that to hit 2500 a day by Monday or Tuesday.

People like "Agnes" don't give a damn about the casualties caused by Trump's incompetence, she only cares about saving Trump's worthless ass and making excuses.

He didn't say "drink bleach?" FFS, he said to inject a disinfectant! Bleach = disinfectant!

Inject means to put it inside the body.

Nice try "Agnes." But FAIL!

There was a spike in cases of people ingesting cleaning products after Trump's remarks. This is not just hypothetical.

Remember that guy in Arizona who, after Trump endorsed chloroquine as a treatment (before there was any evidence from clinical trials), swallowed a fish-tank cleaning chemical which he erroneously believed to be the same stuff Trump was talking about. Common sense would tell people not to ingest cleaning produces -- they're designed to be toxic to organic life forms, that's how they get rid of mold and bacteria -- but some people don't have common sense.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Infidel753 Actually, it is the Trumpers who have the infantile view that a know-nothing president who said windmills cause cancer can speak with authority on anything.

This is your daily reminder that President Bleach Injection has control of the United States of America's large nuclear arsenal.

skudrunner said...

It is impossible to outlaw stupid and if someone injected, drank or took a shower in bleach there is little hope for them to survive life. You just can't fix stupid and I will assume the ones who did any of those things is a republican because democrats are of far greater intellect. Like forest said, stupid is as stupid does and we have a lot of truly stupid people making up the country.
