In a time of crisis in America...

our country is stuck with a whiney, petulant man-child "president" who blames everyone but himself for the incompetent handling of the Covid-19 response that has killed thousands of Americans.

Here are some insightful reports on the weak and frightened little man whom we have the misfortune to be the POTUS:

The Me President: Trump uses pandemic briefing to focus on himself

"Trump has always had a me-me-me ethos, an uncanny ability to insert himself into the center of just about any situation. But Monday’s coronavirus briefing offered a particularly stark portrait of a president seeming unable to grasp the magnitude of the crisis — and saying little to address the suffering across the country he was elected to lead."

 [skip]

"CBS’s Paula Reid pressed him on how his administration had not used the month of February to ready itself for the coming virus, after sharply limiting travel from China. “You didn’t use it to prepare hospitals, you didn’t use it to ramp up testing,” Reid said, before Trump cut her off, calling her “disgraceful.” Reid forged ahead. “What did you do with the time that you bought, the month of February?” she asked, as Trump talked over her. “That video has a gap — the entire month of February. . . . What did your administration do in February with the time that your travel ban bought you?”

BRAVA, PAULA REID!

The sniveling weakling POTUS had nothing to offer because he did nothing.

Wait.

He brags that he closed the border to Chinese nationals? But after that hundreds of non-Chinese nationals who had been in China were allowed re-entry the country.

Now, the weak, unAmerican dictator wannabe claims he has complete power to tell the states what to do.

" 'When somebody's the President of the United States, the authority is total, and that's the way it's got to be,' Trump said at a bitter White House coronavirus briefing.

Trump then said: 'The authority of the President of the United States having to do with the subject we're talking about is total.' And after speaking about local governments, he said, 'They can't do anything without the approval of the President of the United States.' It wasn't clear if he was referring to state or local officials with that assertion.

[skip]

Facts First: "The President does not have "total" authority over coronavirus restrictions. Without seeking or requiring Trump's permission, governors, mayors and school district officials imposed the restrictions that have kept citizens at home and shut down schools and businesses, and it's those same officials who have the power to decide when to lift those restrictions.

There is no legislation that explicitly gives the President the power to override states' public health measures. In addition, Trump said last week that he prefers, because of the Constitution, to let governors make their own decisions on coronavirus restrictions."

*************************

Trump: "Total authority."  This, of course, is his usual bullshit, because he doesn't understand America's representative democracy and how it works.

His followers are fine with having a POTUS who is as ignorant as a baked potato on what our Constitution says about a president's power vs. the states' governors.

I remember when the former governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, warned the GOP that it has to "stop being the stupid party."

The GOPers didn't listen then and they're not listening now as their Supreme Stupid Leader feeds them lies, misinformation, and bullshit.

********************************

And this is for the Trumpista trolls who come here daily to read my blog and then run to their rabid right wing blogs, squat, and poop red bricks of rage on Gooper blogs because they don't like what I publish.

Très drôle!

This is for those trolls who can't quit me:

Wisconsin defeated Trump's candidate! With the threat of Covid-19 and the closing of all but FIVE polling places, which was Goopers' habit of suppressing the vote so they can cheat to win, Trump's candidate STILL LOST to the liberal Democrat.  Trump needs Wisconsin for his re-election. What happened to Trump's candidate last week should make Trump and his rapidly dwindling cultists very, very afraid!

I sense another crisis of a different sort from Covid-19 brewing. Was Jefferson right when he said A little rebellion now and then is a good thing. We applaud Paula Reid as well as the eastern and west coast governors who are uniting as regional forces against the AUTHORITARIAN Dotard.

BRAVO to the brave!

And how about that orange faced toddler with his whittle boy temper tantrum yesterday? An academy award winning actor could not have played the part of raging toddler any better.

With successful west coast and eastern governors giving the orange toddler the big middle finger it is seething with rage.

The orange toddler is showing signs of complete emotional and mental breakdown. The one who said "only I can fix it", the orange turd who labeled himself a "stable genius" is really starting to crack under the glaring light of truth. Which is Dotard is unfit, unqualified, incompetent, and inept and should have been removed from office by the Senate after the orange toddler was impeached by the house. Now, in November 2020, the people, the REAL and TRUE patriots will do the job and dump the fat orange toddlers ass.

If you watched Trump’s daily press briefing Monday, you know that even by his abysmal standards this was the loudest siren yet, a warning that the man occupying the Oval Office is more suited to a very long, involuntary stay in an inpatient mental-health facility than the presidency of the United States.

It wasn’t presidential leadership. It wasn’t executive power made manifest. It wasn’t a grown-ass adult facing a serious crisis. It was an angry, needy man not looking outward to the needs of a nation in crisis but inward, and downward. There's no doubt: Trump is as crazy as a shithouse rat!

What you saw was the real Trump, unbound by facts, reason, logic, the law, or the Constitution, a petty bitch picking petty fights with reporters, a bard of his own songs of grievance and anger.

He’s a desperate, day-trading gambler, fumbling for any hook to change the inevitable judgment of history sweeping toward him like an implacable wave. His mistakes are measured in lives. His hubris and self-interest are tallied in stacks of body bags and a daily death count that surpasses our capacity for grief and belief. His two months of lies led to a wrecked economy and a wave of financial despair that will make people crave the tender mercies of the Great Depression.

When authority is total, so too is the madness of the man who declares it, and the potential for abuse of power.

Hi Michael. Where is that from?

RN Well, if what happened in Wisconsin last week is a peek into the future, the Trumpistas and their cult leader are in deep trouble.

Anonymous Yeah.

Reminder: After tRump's presidency, it'll be difficult to find a single Rethuglican member of Congress left who can credibly claim to be a defender of limited government or the constitutional separation of powers.

Shaw Kenawe said...

How many GOP senators have reacted negatively to Trump's "I have complete authority?" How many?

*crickets*

Trump's destruction of the Republican Party is complete, that's for sure. His trillion dollar deficits, his ignoring states' rights, and his kingly claim that he has "complete authority."

None of those are Republican values. Not one. And yet the cowards in Congress dare not speak out against the charlatan.

I guess they believe in what James Carvill the Democratic pundit once said:

"If your political enemy is drowining in a pool, throw him an anvil!"

It appears that the Republican Congress is letting Trump drown himself in stupidity.

Les Carpenter said...

Well Shaw, if the GOP Congress is actually, by design, letting Dotard drown himself in stupidity that WOULD be a good thing. But, they will respond or react only in ways they think will insure their own reelection. At this point after 3+ years of his idiocy let us hope Dotard continues to prove his incompetence and his obvious POWER LUST.

The most excellent CBS reporter, Paula Reid, chopped up the small-balled moron, Don the Con, at yesterday's Trumpvirus press conference. I think she had that crybaby fake POTUS shitting his orange pants. He then left the podium, went home, and kicked Melania, just for the feeling of total power it gave him.

Even while I’ve never esteemed Fauci much for some reason, how could he or anyone else have really known much at the onset of this thing?

Dave Miller said...

"When someone is president of the United States their authority is total."

How on earth do the proponents of "limited federal government" square this belief, from our president, with their long held and stated belief?

How would they have reacted had a President Obama claimed authority like this? How do the ppl who claimed President Obama did not have the authority to issue an Executive Order view this statement from President Trump?

Not even Liz Cheney believes Trump has this level of authority?

Dave Miller said...

Here's another view on Trump's theory of "Absolute Authority".. thinking back to President Obama...

This is a typical example of how ppl/bloggers viewed Obama. Not just back in the day, although that is accurate, but today as well, as this is a recently posted thought.

"Ten bucks says that when Obozo speaks this afternoon to endorse Biden , he will make it all about himself and his 'accomplishments.'"

If people, like this poster, think Obama was/is wrong to cite his accomplishments, do they feel the same about our current president? And since they don't, one should ask, why not?

These folks are rich...

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, Well of course Trump doesn't have that authority. He's just talking b.s. as he usually does and he's made a gigantic fool of himself, as he usually does when he talks off the top of his head.

The Republican Party would have called for Mr. Obama's immediate removal from office had he uttered such a thing. Those same Republicans had hissy fits when Mr. Obama legally used executive orders! The GOPers are silent and one can only understand that silence as agreement that Trump should have "total authority." Something that real Republicans would abhor any other politician saying.

The present GOP is no longer a political party, it is a group of cultists.

What happened in Wisconsin last week should alert the Trump cultists to how the majority of Americans feel about their cult leader.

PS. The little bump in popularity Trump enjoyed a few weeks ago was fleeting. He's back down in the 40s for approval, which of course means a whopping majority of Americans do not approve of him and the terrible job he's done with the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shaw Kenawe said...

First of all, Mr. Obama wouldn't do that because he has class and would know better than to be like Trump who brags all the time about his accomplishments.

It's hilarious to see Trump cultists project. Somewhere in their inner souls -- if the even have one -- they know Trump is a walking, talking disaster and a b.s.er. They just can't face it.

They're to be pitied.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... I can't take it anymore!

Again, after you read this, ask yourself this... What would the GOP had said if President Obama had done this. And then again, for the 57th time, add this question... Why won't any conservative Trump supporting bloggers be up in arms about this?

The WAPO is now reporting that mailed stimulus checks will be delayed getting to needy Americans. Why? Because Treasury has to retool to put Donald Trump's signature on the checks instead of our Sec Treas.

I'm hearing a Carly Simon song in my head right now.

possumlady said...

And now the stimulus checks will be delayed even further so that they can add the disgusting, vile preznut’s name on them. What a truly pig of a man is he...

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, possumlady,

It's a unprecedented act of hubristic nacrcissism by a craven little man. Holding up checks that are desperately needed by millions of Americans so he can have his name on them? Again it reinforces what 60% of this country knows: Trump is a narcissistic, authoritarian statist, and a megalomaniacal ignoramus.

PS. I saw this on Twitter, and it gave me a laugh:

Re: President fuckwit saying he has "total authority" and then reversing himself the next day:

It's not so much that he's stupid - he is of course. It's that he is so aggressive in his stupidity. He is proud of it. And his supporters are proud that they now have a man like them - aggressively stupid and a non-reader/studier - as President. It is beyond embarrassing.

Here's the address to return their stimulus payments:
U.S. Department of Treasury

If they don't return the checks to the gummint, they're accepting SOSHALISM! LOL!

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ray, They're so unself-aware arn't they. Trumpers like skud forget that Trump endorsed a pedophile, Roy Moore!

But no one ever accused the Trumpers of having deep insight into their neurotic support of a liar, cheat, and fraud.

Lee Arnold said...

NOW, CAN WE 25th AMENDMENT HIM?
Trump on Tuesday night said he would halt funding to the World Health Organization while his administration reviews the group's response to the coronavirus pandemic. He's been increasingly critical of the organization's early response to the health crisis as he's sought to deflect criticism over his administration's slow response to the outbreak.
Trump attacked the organization for opposing early travel restrictions to China and accused WHO of being overly deferential to the Chinese early in the outbreak, even though Trump himself often hailed the Chinese government's response until a few weeks ago.

Joe said...

So where's skud on this:

Fox News anchor Bret Baier on Tuesday called out the "hypocrisy" of President Trump's claim the day before that he has "total" authority when it comes to reopening the nation's economy, saying that conservative heads would have "exploded" had former President Obama said the same thing.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Lee

Trump can't remember from one day to the next what he said because he has no consistency in his thoughts or in his positions. He told America on Monday that he had "complete authority" over the governors of U.S. states, and the next day he reversed himself. Geee! I remember when we had a president who actually knew what was in the Constitution he swore to uphold!

Joe

Don't look for honesty from Trumpers. They've been jealous of Mr. Obama and the respect and admiration he has from millions of people here in the U.S. and around the world. Skud often trashes President Obama here. But he'll keep quiet, like a good little cultist, about Trump claiming kingly authority over America.

Of course he and his fellow cultists would have gone apeshyte if President Obama had ever uttered anything like that, but when your cult leader says it, it's overlooked and ignored.

Don't look for consistency and honesty in a cult. It doesn't exist.

skudrunner said...

Ms Shaw, Now we can say that obama endorsed a sexual predator but what does that get us.
I do agree with you that in times of crisis we need leadership. It is unfortunate that we have not had any since 2001 and certainly don't have it now. With the new president coming in less than a year it looks like we will remain without a competent leader for some time.

The issue of trump having total authority to open the country, he said he doesn't have the authority to close the country the governors do so it stands to reason that he doesn't have the authority to open it. He can open it for federal workers but not states.

I realize that the previous administration would have increased the payments to the WHO because after all it would make us look good much like the paris accord. We should not make china accountable for anything like lower emissions or sharing data about a world changing virus that they developed and oops it got out.
Ray, thanks for your concern regarding stimulus payments if I get one. I do not support the issuance of these massive payments to businesses. Guaranteed solvency for banks is one thing but just giving grants is payment for poor management much like congress. The pittance to individuals is ludicrous. How far will that money go to pay for food and rent/mortgage and what happens after that. We would be better off buying some junk cars and shovels. Like most government programs the amount of good it will do will be small compared to the cost and the fraud associated with it will be massive.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Skud, you have a nerve to even bring up the sexual harassment accusation against Biden.

Your Republican Party and the Trump cultists had no problem with Trump bragging about "grabbing 'em by the pussy" because he's a star. So any references to the Biden accusation is hypocrisy at its best. You and your fellow GOPers approve of sexual predators -- 20+ women have accused Trump of sexual harassment and assault. Biden has one. So excuse me if I laugh in your face for even bringing this up. You and your Republican Party are just fine with it. In fact I should think you'd admire Biden for having an accusation thrown at him. You certainly approved of sexual harassment and assault in your president.

The rest of your comment is your usual excuse-making for the worst president in American history. That's not just my opinion, but the opinion of presidential scholars.

I will tolerate no more mention of the Biden accusation from a Gooper. Others can discuss it, but not a Trumper. Trumpers demonstrated to America and the world that they're fine with such a scumbag.

@PalmerReport
If we're going to print Donald Trump's name on the relief checks, we should also print Donald Trump's name as the cause of death on the death certificates.

Great idea.Trump is such a narcissist that he'd probably like this idea.

Grey One talks sass said...

Good morning Shaw. A couple of thoughts:

* Love the Palmer Report tweet - seems fair to me.
* As a survivor of a cult I can say with some authority that the Trumpers can't use their brain as it was surrendered upon the alter of authority. To break free they would have to face themselves, something that is extremely hard to do.
* We The People have an amazing opportunity right now. Yes, quarantine is hard but it has given me the chance to make changes to ensure my life is in balance. Perhaps others are making the same positive decisions? (Not talking about learning new things, just going through the old stuff to ensure I'm not embracing destructive emotions or behaviors)
* The people who thought they were indispensable found out they were replaced by garbage collectors and health care workers. Who could have predicted this outcome? Only everyone who has ever played a civilization building game.

Thank you for being here and resisting the slings and arrows of the sublimely stupid.

Are you serious, Anon? Dr. Fauci is one of the world's leading experts on infectious diseases and their spread. IT'S HIS JOB AND 30+ YEARS of experience that would allow him to "really know much at the onset of this thing!"

And he DID know, and the Gooper's president didn't listen to him and other experts!

Shaw Kenawe said...

Grey One talks sass,

Glad to see you here. As a former cult member, you DO have a better understanding of what binds people to a cult leader and why it's so difficult to break away. I've often said here that the Trumpers (well I'm hoping most of them) know what a despicable liar, cheat, and fraud he is, but they too ashamed to admit it.

Some self-reflection while we're being forced to quarantine ourselves is a good thing. I only wish the Trumpers had it in themselves to do that.

Stay safe. And please visit again.
