About that summit between Trump and Putin:

It was a big nothing burger.  Putin came out the winner.  He, an international war criminal, was warmly greeted by the American president on American soil   Disgraceful.

And no ceasefire, as Trump demanded.  All he got from Putin was a knowing smirk

NYTimes:

Mr. Putin scored a win even before he arrived in the United States. After years of being ostracized by the West, he returned to American soil for the first time in a decade, welcomed by American fighter jets, a red carpet and a ride in the Beast, Mr. Trump’s armored car.

And Mr. Putin secured another victory when it concluded, departing the United States without making any major concessions while maintaining a warm rapport with Mr. Trump. During the last several months, the American president had been growing frustrated with Mr. Putin, seeing the Russian leader as the hurdle to a cease-fire and an eventual peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.

“But in the meantime, Mr. Putin has accomplished a major war goal: He has gotten out of the box of sanctioned autocrat, and was greeted by the president of the United States as a peacemaker. He has bought time. He has defused all that talk of sanctions on his oil sector. And he gave up nothing.

It’s unclear how long any of that will work. But it was impressive diplomacy for less than four hours on American ground.” —David Sanger

There will he no end and the war criminal Putin knows how to play the FOTUS like a fiddle.

Inept, incompetent, corrupt... the only three strengths of the FOTUS.

Donald Trump needed a win to soothe his Epstein-savaged ego. Instead he was dominated on the world stage by a Russian war criminal.

But a collapsing narcissist can never accept defeat.
So we will all pay for his failure.

It would be far better to provide Ukrain with weapons and no aircraft then tell them where they can and cannot use them. That would have brought this war to a rapid conclusion. Oh wait, that is what we did and look how great that worked out.
I guess it is another failure of trump trying to do something that just didn't work out. This is good news for the liberals because what could they have criticized had the effort worked.

I never would have imagined a "summit" like I saw yesterday.

We saw a US President, eager to make a deal, with no pre work done by aides towards getting an agreement, invite an indicted war criminal to a meet. We invited a dictator, the leader of an enemy communist country, to the United States of America, the long seen leader of the free world.

We have arguably not even met under such circumstances since the 1959 Eisenhower/Khrushchev summit at Camp David.

An invitation to Putin to meet on US soil was bad enough. But it got worse. US President Trump timed his exit from Air Force One to coincide with Putin's walk across the red carpet the US laid out. Rather than one up the Communist dictator, Trump ceded his, and by extension, US power to the Russian during the first steps on the Alaskan military base.

We even gave Putin a US Military flyover salute, a direct walk past our most advanced fighter jets and a lift in The Beast, the specially outfitted US vehicle for safely transporting US presidents.

Putin could be seen smiling smugly as they drove away. We've never seen such friendly behavior towards the Ukranian President or even our European Allies during a Trump Presidency. You know, the leaders who have stood to defend us for decades.

And what did we get from this travesty?

Nothing. No ceasefire as Trump wanted. No discussions. No guarantee of peace or an end to civilian bombings. Nothing. But we did get this, from President Putin when he spoke...

President Trump and the US he said, has come around to agreeing with his, the Russian's that it, point of view of what started the war. And what is the Russian point of view of what started the war, long explained publicly by them?

That Ukraine is the aggressor. Not that the war started when Russia invaded and took the Crimean peninsula. Not when they invaded again, coming for more of Ukraine. No, instead Russia clings to a Flip Wilson style "the devil made" us invade them. And now the US has agreed!

Absent any correction or pushback from our president, this is now official US policy, annunciated on our soil by the Russian President.

It was so bad even the Capitaina of the Mothership was distraught, saying this... "After what looked like a total mess of a meeting, Trump ranked it a 10. I’ve never seen Trump look as confused and overcome as he did in those ‘speeches’ after their meeting. I WONDER WHAT WENT ON."

YES! We do wonder what went on.

BTW... what happened immediately after Putin left the US? Russia resumed bombing Ukraine civilian sites.

President Trump, the US and each of us were humiliated yesterday. By the convicted felon, convicted sexual predator, convicted and admitted fraudster, lying, dictator loving, backslapping smiling president himself.

It’s not good news for America to understand its leader is a bungling clown who, obviously, was ill prepared ( shame on his staff) for the meeting.

Trump is a malignant narcissist who believes his own propaganda, which is that Putin is his good friend.

Trump’s “good friend “ Putin made a fool of him in front of the world.

Shaw Kenawe said...

It’s not just Trump who is to blame for that diplomatic disaster, but all his lackeys who continue to feed his malignant narcissistic ego that make Trump believe he’s some sort of great statesman/peacemaker. They are to blame as much as Trump is for our being humiliated in front of the world.

His 'lackeys' were hand picked. Not for expertise, but bobble head obedience.
The buck, as Truman noted, stops at the top. Orwell, always right.

I was not invited to the talks so you have far more information than I do and I will concede you are right about what happened. What I saw with the flyover was a show of our strength and where would you rather have the talks take place. Maybe china would have been a better choice.

This conflict should have never reached the level it is today. Have you consideed that the reason putin invaded was because he didn't see the US as a force he may have to deal with

Shaw Kenawe said...

Putin obviously doesn’t see the US as a force he has to deal with today, under Trump’s leadership, since he went back to Russia and continued bombing Ukraine, just after his meeting with Trump!

Les Carpenter said...

Bingo!

Putin is more intlligent, craftier, tougher, more directed, and has smarter people than tRump. It is no contest. And Putin knows the big bad malignant narcissist is nothing but a bloviating insecure toddler when it comes to diplomacy and summitry.
