"The collapse of the GOP effort to repeal the ACA..."
(Light posting the rest of the week because our family is dealing with the imminent passing of a very close family friend.)
E.J. Dionne Jr. at The Washington Post writes—
Why Obamacare won and Trump lost:
The collapse of the Republican effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act is a monumental political defeat wrought by a party and a president that never took health-care policy or the need to bring coverage to millions of Americans seriously. But their bungling also demonstrates that the intense attention to Obamacare over the past six months has fundamentally altered our nation’s health-care debate. Supporters of the 2010 law cannot rest easy as long as the current Congress remains in office and as long as Donald Trump occupies the White House.
On Wednesday, the president demanded that the Senate keep at the work of repeal, and, in any event, Congress could undermine the act through sharp Medicaid cuts in the budget process and other measures. And Trump, placing his own self-esteem and political standing over the health and security of millions of Americans, has threatened to wreck the system. [...]
As long as “repeal Obamacare” was simply a slogan, what the law actually did was largely obscured behind attitudes toward the former president. But the Affordable Care Act’s core provisions were always broadly popular, particularly its protections for Americans with preexisting conditions and the big increase in the number of insured it achieved. The prospect of losing these benefits moved many of the previously indifferent to resist its repeal. And the name doesn’t matter so much with Obama out of office.

The LIGHTER the better !
SHAW WROTE:
"Donald J. Trump is now under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice.
Hillary Clinton is not."
------------------------------------------------------
TRUMP IS PRESIDENT, HILLARY IS HOME IN BED WITH A BOTTLE OF VOCKA.
TRUMP IS SITTING IN THE OVAL OFFICE, HILLARY IS NOT.
To the FAKE "The Angry Guy:"
You are an impostor and a name stealer and we're not surprised a cheating FAKE would admire the current occupant of th3 White House.
To be repeat: Donald J. Trump, #45, is under criminal investigation by a special counsel and Hillary Clinton is not.
We are learning day after day that DJT may be the most corrupt and incompetent man to have ever been in the Oval Office.
You are not welcome here, you FAKE "The Angry Guy."
BEGONE!
"We're just going to wait till Obamacare fails ..."
Now that's leadership.
Is there a moderate left who supports this jerk?
I thought it was a nice touch to "remember" that a noted Russian money launderer was in the adoption meeting with Fredo.
Happy Hands is feeling the heat. He just threw Sessions under the bus to the "failing" New York Times.
DUCKY: "Now that's leadership.
Is there a moderate left who supports this jerk?"
I doubt there are any moderates supporting this train wreck of a presidency.
Lord Dampnut still has the support of his 30 percenters.
The shit is beginning to hit the fan. The federal reimbursements to states that have funded expanded Medicaid coverage to those in need is already in jeopardy. As things stand, it is solely up to the discretion of the executive branch. Trump has so far refused to renew this provision. They have been making payments on a month-to-month basis. So insurance premiums for the exchanges are already expected to go up as high as 23% for Blue Cross in at least one state. The risk and uncertainty of what will happen next is of course utter poison for the insurance market. This is only the first volley unless the republican congress gets religion fast.
Re: "Trump, placing his own self-esteem and political standing over the health and security of millions of Americans, has threatened to wreck the system"...
Right, Trump can CAUSE ObamaCare to fail via sabotage (3 Things Trump Is Already Doing to "Let Obamacare Fail", 7/19/2017). That would be in addition to the sabotage Congressional Republicans have already engaged in (Marco Rubio Quietly Undermines Affordable Care Act, 12/9/2015).
According to Trump, "We'll let Obamacare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us and they're going to say, How do we fix it?". What a liar! Democrats have acknowledged that ObamaCare would need fixes from day 1 and BEGGED Republicans to work with them.
Sorry, FAKE Angry Guy. You're outta here!
It is different for our elected elite to not lock step in place and to have differing opinions. DJT should have said that let stand and obamacare will fail on it's own. The problem with it failing, which both parties agree it will, is there will be 9 million more on the medicaid rolls.
Don't you question how good a program is when more people would rather pay a fine than enroll. Must be all those young males who feel they don't need pregnancy benefits that cause the enrollment to be so low.
The one size fits all provision of obamacare doesn't work and has caused insurance premiums and deductibles to increase for 300 million so we could subsidize premiums for 10 million. No matter how you look at it, it is a massive failure and now obamacare is broke, medicaid is broke and medicare is broke. Why do we insist on paying a group of politicians to do nothing for us?
