Is this where the Confederate States of Trump are headed?
This bill became law in 2024.
Think about it: If this were the law when Justice Clarence Thomas and his dainty little white bride, Gini, wanted to marry in Tennessee, some troglodyte racist minister or other officiant could have refused to marry them.
The MAGA racists are determined to drag this country back to the 1850s!
We. Will. Not. Let. That. Happen. Here!
The law would thus allow wedding officiants to legally discriminate against couples entering interracial unions, heterosexual unions and same-sex marriages

Not at all surprising. Not at all.
The extreme rightwing White Christian Nationalist agenda, being a bigoted, racist, non inclusive, xenophobic and homophobic non Christ like aberration from the Teachings of Jesus of Nazareth is raising its ugly Un-Christian head.
And it is coming to a state near your own. If not your own state.
Ignorance, delusion, and all that if brings with it is growing more and more roots in American society. Christian Nationalism and the authoritarianism it supports is on the rise. Supported by You Know Who and the legions of ignorant people who support him.
What a bunch of hateful crybabies.
Funny, when I got married I had to meet with my wife's pastor and answer his "faith" questions before he'd agree to officiate at my wedding. My older brother had to convert to Catholicism before he was allowed to marry his bride. What's the big deal? it's normal. Being forced to bless a union is a modern secular day thing fir for Justices of the Peace, not Jewish rabbi's.
That’s religious marriages, not civil. There’s a difference. You should know that.
So religious marriages are now "legal" in TN. Thank G_d!
Here's the big deal Joe... at our founding, contrary to popular uninformed belief, the various Christian denominations did not consider each other Christian. So for instance, a Catholic marriage solemnized in Maryland, a Catholic state, was not accepted in baptist Rhode Island. And on and on it went.
Then the US changed, to accept a marriage in one state, under a "different religion" to be accepted in ALL states.
Of course that did not apply to white people loving and marrying black people until 1967.
Your "What's the big deal" question points us back to a time of intense religious and racial bigotry.
That's the big deal.
Nah. Religious bigotry is now legal in TN.
Freedom of religion and speech is a b*tch, isn't it? :)
Your freedom of religion and speech is nothing but a dog whistle for the Christian Nationalists and Authoritarians to use while attempting to force their ignorance down the throats of much wiser and awakened people.
So, I say, stuff your brand of "religious freedom" and "speech" where the sun don't shine jc.
Joe... yes, it can be a b*tch. But a person's right to practice either ends when in so doing, you usurp another's rights.
So you can't open a restaurant and because of your religion, bar say a black couple from eating at your lunch... oops. Yes you can now. Thanks to a conservative SCOTUS.
Or a mixed race couple. Or a gay couple. Or a Jew, Nazi or follower of Islam.
Good job America. You've made ppl like Joe, -FJ and the entire MAGA movement very happy.
Democracy isn't a mutual suicide pact, Dave. Learn to live with it.
So says the non-stop whiner who claimed the 2020 election was rigged and that Trump would eventually be found the "real" winner!
You never learned to live with the fact that Trump lost!
You're not a serious person.
-FJ, I've heard your point before. It's essentially the Rand Paul argument that someone who opens a business has a "right" to exclude any customer he or she wants.
Which is why he has said he never would have voted for the Voting Rights Act or supported legislation to bar for example, restaurant owners from not letting black people eat at lunch counters in the south.
And you are part of that racist crowd that does not believe in, or support the ideals of our Declaration of Independence which said "All men are created equal."
In my opinion, you are simply, wrong.
I believe we must continue to work towards a "more perfect union" and assurance of equal rights for all Americans without regard to race, color, sex, etc., etc..
But that's just me.
