"The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." --MLK

Out for the weekend to the great state of Maine.

Meanwhile, some good news via Sheria Reid on facebook:

Historic ruling: Judge orders anti-gay Scott Lively to stand trial for crimes against humanity

Extremist anti-gay US pastor is accused of engineering the Uganda 'Kill The Gays' bill, saying LGBT people are the 'new Nazis' and recommending Russia's 'gay propaganda' laws
Anti-gay US evangelist will stand trial for 'crimes against humanity'.
For the first time, a federal US judge has ruled a persecution of LGBT people is a crime against humanity.
This sets a precedent ensuring the fundamental human rights of LGBTI people are protected under international law.
It comes as a Ugandan LGBTI advocacy organization filed a lawsuit against prominent US anti-gay extremist Scott Lively.

It is sad to hear of Bartcop's passing.

He was a prime mover in the early days of liberal blogging and will be missed.

From the article (for those wondering how this lawsuit was possible)...

US law allows foreign citizens to sue for violations of international law in US federal courts under the Alien Tort Statute.

I'm interested to see where this goes. I say GUILTY. Hopefully the court will agree. I wonder what the punishment could be?

He's not being charged with anything. He's being sued, and the next hearing date isn't until 2015.

Trying to sue him for 'crimes against humanity' makes a mockery of the term and belittles real crimes that truly fit that category.

He engaged in inflammatory speech. Where the hell is the ACLU?

Those who are persecuting and killing gays in Uganda are the criminals, and by ICC criteria, could indeed be charged with Crimes Against Humanity.
