What makes satire so funny...

is that it's so very close to the truth.

N.R.A. Proposes Having Second Armed Teacher in Every Classroom to Stop First Armed Teacher from Misfiring

"WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Hours after an armed teacher in a Northern California classroom fired a gun and injured a student, the head of the National Rifle Association proposed placing a second armed teacher in every classroom, to shoot the first armed teacher before he or she can do harm. 'Had there been a second armed teacher in the classroom to shoot the first armed teacher, this regrettable incident would never have occurred,' Wayne LaPierre said. 'The only thing that stops a bad teacher with a gun is a good teacher with a gun.' ”

In essence, that is exactly what the NRA is proposing, and the gun nuts are supporting.

In a local NPR discussion here in Las Vegas on schools and safety, one person called in and offered the following... after noting that there are already students tasked with being "security volunteers' he suggested arming them. Really. He suggested arming the kids in school.

The one student on the panel almost lost it on that suggestion. Then she posed a series of questions... if there is a shooting incident, how will cops know and determine the good guys with guns from the bad guys with guns? Won't the good guys with guns be the first targets? Is it possible that black and other minority teachers with guns will be mistakenly shot, just because they have guns?

Those are questions from students! Why can't adults figure this out? Or are we just supposed to accept that "s*#t happens"?

Here are some additional things that adults will have to figure out if they want to arm teachers.

If arming the teachers doesn't work out I'm sure they'll suggest arming the students next.
