"America is at a low ebb, shaken by multiple blows, and Trump adds to the distress" -- WaPo

Global Anger Grows Over a Death in Minneapolis On the streets of Berlin and Vancouver, in halls of power in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Beijing, a chorus of criticism broke out, reflecting growing unease about America’s rapidly eroding moral authority on the world stage.

Trump’s inability to speak convincingly to anyone but his base is a unique liability in the moment

Like millions of Americans, I've watched in horror as our cities burn, our citizens continue to die from a pandemic, and our African-American brothers and sisters continue to be slaughtered by rogue cops. All while the GOP's feckless and cowardly president hides himself in a bunker in the WH, too frightened to speak to the nation when the nation needed him to show leadership.

This is what a nation gets when a spiteful minority elects and continues to support an incompetent, malevolent, pathological liar and malignant narcissist.

Don't look to this broken man for anything resembling leadership. Trump hasn't the intelligence, human decency or empathy to get this country through these difficult, heart-wrenching times.

When we all needed calm and comforting words from a leader, what America got was more promises of  lethal carnage from President Bunker Boy, throwing gasoline on an already burning nation.

To hell with him. He's proved again and again that he hasn't the capacity for normal human empathy or any human feelings except those of greed and revenge. To hell with him.

VOTE TRUMP OUT IN NOVEMBER:

Every effective leader understands the importance of empathy and understanding. Most real effective leaders have at some point in their lives have walked in the shoes of and on the path those they lead are on.

Not our current FAKEleader.

Funny, Plumpster tells the govs to get tougher, while he hides in a bunker like Hitler...

One may not have agreed with Richard Nixon, but at least he had a redeeming quality in that he understood world politics. President Trump is clearly out of his league in all areas of the presidency, domestic and international.

As a native Minnesotan this breaks my heart that this all erupted from the actions of some thug cops in Minneapolis. I've been in tears every day since George Floyd's murder. Have you seen the videos of Minneapolis cops firing rubber bullets at people on their private property on their front porches? Yeah, that's a sure way of deescalating the situation. I found the linked opinion piece very good...

An autopsy ordered by the family of George Floyd has found that he died from "asphyxiation from sustained pressure".

Dotard donnie is out of his league in all areas requiring cognition and emotional intelligence Dave. I'll say this openly and freely, if that bastard is reelected by the American people I will mo longer have reason to be proud of this country.

If you saw Trump's speech and the spectacle before it you are seeing the actions of a dictator. Never did he mention Floyd George. Never did he mention police reform or legal teform. He held up a clenched fist, he threatened to expand his use of the military. He is. in fact. threatening to invade the states. Hey all you states rights advocates. How you going to defend this?

It will be easy for them. They simply don their trumproid hat and continue to not think. Three hail the chief, five MAGA, and let the bullets fly and their off to the races.

How does DonaldTrump think gassing and abusing our children make American mothers and fathers want to Vote for a coward who’s been hiding in his bunker for two days? He’s got nothing, for his #Covid-19 disaster, 150,000 Dead, 60million Americans unemployed. #BlackLivesMatter

Peaceful protesters were tear gassed and sent running with a hail of rubber bullets so the disgusting SOB could waddle over to St. John’s Church for an effin photo op!!!

Dave Miller said...

Ray... you're right, he never once mentioned George Floyd. Never once.

He did walk stiffly over to a church where he had no idea what to do after trying to pose for a photo op. He, this "good Christian president" doesn't even know how to hold a bible. The tell was he was holding it like an altar boy walking it into a sanctuary.

But hey, what's a little tear gas in your eyes so your pres can get his picture taken.

No prayers, no words of unity, no encouragement to the American people, nothing.

So much winning, I can hardly take it.

“The Right Rev. Mariann Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, was seething.

President Trump had just visited St. John’s Episcopal Church, which sits across from the White House. It was a day after a fire was set in the basement of the historic building amid protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

Before heading to the church, where presidents have worshiped since the days of James Madison, Trump gave a speech at the White House emphasizing the importance of law and order. Federal police officers then used force to clear a large crowd of peaceful demonstrators from the street between the White House and the church, apparently so Trump could make the visit.
“I am outraged,” Budde said in a telephone interview a short time later, pausing between words to emphasize her anger as her voice slightly trembled.

She said she had not been given any notice that Trump would be visiting the church, and did not approve of the manner in which the area was secured for his appearance.

“I am the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and was not given even a courtesy call, that they would be clearing [the area] with tear gas so they could use one of our churches as a prop,” Budde said.

She excoriated the president for standing in front of the church — its windows boarded up with plywood — holding up a Bible, which Budde said “declares that God is love.”
“Everything he has said and done is to inflame violence,” Budde of the president. “We need moral leadership, and he’s done everything to divide us, and has just used one of the most sacred symbols of the Judeo-Christian tradition.” (The Washington Post)

possumlady, R.D., R.N., Dave, Ray, Anon,

This has been a terrible day among a week of terrible days. It’s like being in a nightmare from which one can’t wake up.

We were warned. We were warned about the damage trump would do to Americans and our American democracy. We’re witnessing what happens when a country loses its mind and hands power over to a man devoid of any human decency or respect for Constitutional norms.

I can’t say much more than that just now.
