Yep... I'm sure Harris would have been worse than this.
I know ppl will say that the Dems should have run a better candidate. But if folks are bound and determined to vote for someone else, which in 2024 they were, it would not have mattered who ran.
But the "they should have run someone else" argument is tired. There is no objective way someone can make the argument that had we elected harris we'd be in a worse place, with a worse president than we are now.
The debt continues to soar. Inflation is still above targets. Millions of people have lost their health insurance, or ability to pay. Unemployment is ticking up. we're in a war of our own making. Sailors are going overboard to avoid what they are facing onboard our naval vessels. We're losing that war of our own making. Gas is $4.50 where I live and more in California. Federal aid is being predicated on who you voted for in 2024. Our president is calling parents and loved ones of distressed service members liars and dismissing their concerns. Relationships with our allies are at their lowest point since before WWII.
Am I missing much?
Let's be charitable and assume Harris would have struggled herself with some of these. But the list is breathtaking.
People should not hide behind the "she was unelectable" dodge. She was unelectable because too many Americans thought another Trump presidency was a good idea. Remember, he wiped her out in the electoral college.
But now, here we are. The world does not respect us and now, they no longer fear us. Our president, rather than stand up to the Iranians, cowered in a food truck. No corkscrew takeoffs and landings for him, a la GW Bush when he flew into a war zone.
No one internationally knows what to expect from us and if you think that's a good thing, I got nothing. Our president is sleeping through meetings, focused on monuments, all of which for some reason, must bear his name and seems to care not on whit for people who do not profess love to him.
Whether you love Trump, hate him or agnostic doesn't matter. We've never seen a president like this in our lifetimes.
Simply put, we are witnessing, in real time, the decline of the American Empire and its global hegemony.
The actions of trump 2.0 are merely accelerating that decline. Not that it wouldn't be happening if Harris had been elected. It would have continued, albeit at a slower pace.
Karma will always come a knocking when conditions have ripened. America's karma has ripened and the consequences of our past actions (and ignorance) are coming home to roost.
The tide is shifting, and not in our favor. And, at this point we are powerless to alter it. Unless the nation wakes up, acknowledges its many past errors and mistreatment of people (indigenousand across the globe), and consciously, with awareness, effects the neccessary internal changes that are glaringly obvious and desperately needed.
The swath of destruction left by Trump may never be repaired. I hope younger people can alter this path to fascism, austerity, and a lawless police state, but every generation is infected by authoritarian personalities.
I fear it's too late for conscience and consciousness to prevail.
I'm old, so my future is less imperiled. I'll just sit back with my single malt drams and take in the unfolding tragedy and death of a republic.

The only suggestion I have is for the Northern states to secede from the South. The Confederacy has finally won. Their flag has desecrated our Capitol and the offenders have been pardoned and await their reward from the Criminal President.
I for one would actually welcome the State of MA succeeding from the union. This nation gave up any right it may have once possessed to claim the moral high ground. It's authoritarian reichwing republican party started its spiral into total selfish self interests under the regime of RWR. Donald J. Trump and his MAGA scam is but the natural consequence of trickle down economics that the oligarchs if capitalism love. They love it precisely because it insure the accelerated and continual accumulation of wealth into the bank accounts and hands if the capitalist elites.
Democracy, especially economic democracy, is the natural enemy of capitalism. Which is why capitalists co-opted and propagandized the narative that capitalism protects freedom and liberty. It doesn't. It does the exact opposite. It insures the working class is dependent on the capitalist that are extracting for more value from labor than us returned in wages.
Socialism is the only path to saving this republic and it's people from financial collapse and great misery. Precisely why I would not oppose succession from the union. That and other reasons which will be saved for a different day.
