First Night of the Republican Convention -- 2016

UPDATE BELOW

Interesting.

The first night of the Republican convention in Cleveland is called "Making America Safe Again."

Brilliant.

In keeping with the GOP, but especially the "Talking Yam" who's the presumptive nominee's usual ignorance on matters national and international, no one bothered to research the fact that crime rates are at an all time low since the 1960s, and the military supremacy of the USA around the world is unparalleled.

So why do they think America needs to be "safe again?" It's already is safe (and it's already great). But the boneheads in the GOP, and especially its soon-to-be thin-skinned, nasty, loud-mouth fraud of a presidential candidate, don't really know much about anything going on in this country or anywhere else on the planet. All we need to know about their disconnect with reality is the title of the first night of the GOP convention.

Schtooooopid!

But one of their own, Bobby Jindal, did say it was the Stupid Party.  And tonight, once again, it lives up to its name.

Here's the real deal:

THANKS OBAMA!

UPDATE:

USAToday and other news outlets are reporting that Melania Trump plagiarized parts of Michelle Obama's speech from the Democratic convention of 2008.

For a group of people who detest the Obama's, that's a strange thing to do. But apparently they couldn't come up with an original thought themselves so they stole from the best:  The Obamas!

I didn't watch it. Any of it. Who wants to see seething hatred, lies, and white supremacy passed off as patriotism? From what I've read, the opening night of the Dumpster Fire was atrocious. Even the lovely Mrs. Trump continued the Trump legacy (probably unknowingly) of scamming and being a fraud. No one believes Mrs. Trump wrote that speech, but the people who did steal from Michelle Obama's speech are part of the Trump team, they own what they did.

From the HuffPost:

In her first major address before the nation on Monday night, Melania Trump appears to have plagiarized a number of lines from first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The plagiarized passages, in bold below, concerned the importance of hard work and honesty.
“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Trump told the thousands of Republican delegates and assembled media on Monday night in Cleveland.
In 2008, Mrs. Obama said, “You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”
Trump’s spouse also lifted a line about children from Michelle Obama, saying, “We want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
In 2008, Michelle Obama said, “We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

The Huffington Post reached out to the Trump campaign about the lifted lines, but a spokeswoman did not reply to the questions. A party spokesperson said the Republican National Committee would not be commenting on the issue.

Cant follow this any longer. This was tHe most hate-filled, dishonest, polarizing nasty lie-filled gathering of unhappy, spiteful Americans I've ever witnessed. By electing the cretinous demagogue who has riled up these malcontents, we surely will make America a fascist nightmare.

NPR cut away from Giuliani as soon as he went all Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi .

Unfortunately Rudy wasn't properly medicated.
But there is little doubt in my mind that we are watching neofascism on parade.

Nothing but hate.

I have never seen a greater celebration of hate, fear, and stupidity in my whole life as I have seen tonight at the republican convention.

The Trumpistas as trying to blow off the criticisms about Melania's plagiarized-from-Michelle-Obama speech, but it speaks to how awful the Trump campaign is and how disorganized and chaotic it is. If Trump can't do better than that in a freakin' convention, how will he handle the very serious business of being a president?

I forced myself to watch the clown show. Rudy was his usual disgusting pig of himself, Mrs. Turnip had to copy our lovely Michelle Obama (is anyone really shocked?) and the stooges and louts in the audience did their level best to earn the name 'The Stupid Party' by acting like out of control gas bags. Bout what I expected from those slimeballs, really.

I was more impressed that they had an underwear model calling Obama a muslim.

Not one positive statement the entire evening. Just a reminder of how much fear and hatred is driving them.

BHO keeping America Safe is about as outrages as his unify the country speech. You are being silly.
It is difficult to give a speech and not use something from someone else. Sometime it is a mistake and sometimes not. One thing is for sure and that is the MSM is in full attack mode against Trump. Are they nervous he can beat -H- who after all this time cannot convince 50% of voters she is a good choice in spite of running against a maniac. Looks like both parties would like a do over.
Maybe she should have said she was taking fire as she exited the helo or she never sent a classified email from a non-secure server.
There is a difference between a mistake and an outright lie.

Giuliani... Neofascism on Steroids.

Basically the GOP is slowly transforming itself into the party of Mussolini.

Trump is the face of the GOP and conservatism today. A shameful face at that.

And as usual Skidmark keeps making excuses for his masters in Trumpland. Ho hum... The right never fails to underwhelm.

skud,

Melania Trump told NBC's Matt Lauer that she wrote her speech herself, with "a little help." That's on video -- Hillary Clinton didn't make her say that.

When Melania Trump needed "a little help" for inspirational and eloquent words, she chose the best -- Michelle Obama and her speech writing team!

Melania Trump has good taste in cribbing other people's ideas and words. Apparently the speech writers in the Trump camp couldn't come up.

It's okay to use other people's words as long as you give those words attribution. Melania could have said "As First Lady Michelle Obama said..." and then she could have repeated Michelle Obama's words with no problem.

The rest of your comment is the same whiney complaints that you've left here dozens of time. Why don't you plagiarize some stuff from Sarah Palin, just for a bit of comedy.

RN, From the photos and videos I've seen, it looked like a lot of the speakers practiced their speeches on a balcony while raising their hands in a "special" salute.

Ducky, the screaming I heard coming from Ghouliani was frightening. The American people generally like to hear something upbeat and positive. I've heard more inspiring words in a dirge.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Bluebull, the reviews I listened to this AM -- Joe Scarborough -- Republican, David Brooks, Republican, and others all seemed to suggest that the first night looked more like a bund rather than an opening night for a convention.

The only speaker missing was Heinz Heinrich Spanknobel.

It could have been worse, Mrs. Trump could have cribbed from a Hillary speech. Well OK, not much worse. That would be some real comedy.

The winger are brushing off Melania's speech and the stolen texts because she's Donald's wife and a Republican.

Today's Gee-Oh-Pee-er -- Evangelical Gee-Oh-Pee-ers -- have no problem with Trump and his serial adulteries, his bragging about bedding other men's wives; his bankruptcies; his casinos; his fraudulent Trump University; his making fun of disabled Americans; his anti-Latino/Hispanic; anti-women; anti-African-Americans; his anti-Muslim (they REALLY LOVE THAT).

Donald Trump is everything the Evangelicals would hate in a candidate with a "D" after his/her name (he only changed his pro-abortion stand recently), and he's said many times how much he admires Hillary Clinton and thinks she'd be a tremendous president because she's smart!

Those GOPers who support him and call themselves Evangelicals have sold their souls to the Devil. NO. MORAL. COURAGE.

STEVE SCHMIDT:

STEVE SCHMIDT: Really the highlight of tonight's speech -- the highlight of tonight's activities was Melania Trump's speech. This turns this night into a catastrophe. This is a plagiarized speech, hands down, game, set, match on that. What an outrageous disservice to Melania Trump by the speech writers on that campaign. Nicole Wallace talked earlier today about the fact that the Trump campaign such as it is is not configured like a normal political campaign. And maybe you don't need to be configured like a normal campaign. We know tonight, as you watch the incongruity between the speeches, the lack of a theme, the lack of a connection, the day starting off with the targeting and attacking the Ohio governor, right through the end of the program. Hamilton on Broadway is a great show, a great production, no one leaves it early. Tonight, in the middle of a show, and be clear, this is a show, a lot of people left it early. This is not a good first night, and now you have brought scandal to a prospective First Lady in the form of her convention speech. Just an outrageous incompetence and disservice to her by that campaign.

Pamela Zydel said...

There are 21 words in Melania's speech that are word for word of Michelle's. Is it coincidence or did she steal them? Or did she have a speech writer so freaken stupid that he/she stole them. Anyone with a brain knows you need to give attribution. All she had to do was say Mrs. Obama said or even according to Mrs. Obama...

Goodness it's so easy.

Perhaps too easy.

Les Carpenter said...

Melania is not the first to plagiarize, there have been others. I'm considering a post on this very issue.

Far and balanced, and I don't mean like FOX "News".

Jerry Critter said...

Just a highlight of what a Trump presidency will be like...a disservice to the American people.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Pam, you and I have been following plagiarists on several blogs for years. And we think they're shameful for stealing other people's work and not giving attribution.

Did Melania know she was plagiarizing Mrs. Obama's words? We don't know. Melania is on video saying she wrote the whole speech with "a little help." Should we believe that? Is this all more of the same Trumpian fraud. Who knows.

And yes, Joe Biden was caught plagiarizing other people's words and that knocked him out of the presidential race when he did that. As well it should have.

What I'm amazed at is the fact that the Trump campaign obviously didn't look at the history of Biden's plagiarism to see how that played out. I don't believe for a minute that Melania wrote the speech herself. The Trump campaign screwed up and made Melania look bad.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Jerry, yes. The Trump campaign which would transition to the Trump White House is chaotic and, I have to say, stupid.
