CBS News, which previously had published the claim that Melania Trump had received her degree, looked deeper into into it after her appearance at the Republican National Convention:
Melania Trump didn't receive a college degree in design and architecture at the university in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which her biography in the Republican National Convention program claims she had obtained.[...]CBS News has checked the official public records of the university, and Melania Trump is not listed as having graduated from there with a degree.
We also checked the Ljubljana University archives for any records of Melania Knauss, Melanija Knavs, and every other combination and alternate spellings of those names that we could find, and were unable to locate a record of her at that university, nor at any other university in the country.

Melania Trump's RNC bio incorrectly says she graduated from college
"Melania Trump didn't receive a college degree in design and architecture at the university in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which her biography in the Republican National Convention program claims she had obtained.
The convention program reads, "After obtaining a degree in design and architecture at University in Slovenia, Melania was jetting between photo shoots in Paris and Milan, finally settling in New York in 1996."
This was a direct quote from her website.
CBS News has checked the official public records of the university, and Melania Trump is not listed as having graduated from there with a degree."
More here on "Truth or Fiction."
Why did the Trump campaign and the RNC lie about Melania's university education -- something so easy to research? What else are they lying about? It's not for nothing that Trump has been labeled the biggest liar of the 2016 presidential campaign. He can't even be honest about his wife's education.

Personally the Melania fixation is is growing tedious. The purpose is certainly understood but everyone paying attention knows the Trump campaign and Donald have an aversion to the truth when it doesn't fit their narrative.
What was impressive was Cruz NOT endorsing Trump. I found my respect for him ratchet up a couple of notches. He found a way to stand by his convictions and prep for 2020 as well. Impressive.
RN, the Melania issue is relevant because it shows the Trump campaign again willing to cheat and lie (her university claims) even when ithey must know the truth will come out. There's no shame in not having a university degree, so why did the Trumpistas make things worse by lying about it? Is lying just a way of life for this candidate?
I didn't see Cruz's speech. The Sox were playing the S F Giants and Hanley Ramirez hit three home runs to give the Sox the win. Much more exciting. But yeah, Cruz showed some moral courage in sticking it to Trump. History will be kind to him. Ghouliani? Not so much.
It's a very odd thing to lie about. Yes, it's easily checked, and also the likely impact is minimal -- I doubt that a single person anywhere in the country will vote differently based on whether Melania Trump has a degree or not. But Trump is known for his obsession that everything associated with himself has to be the best, the greatest. No matter what his wife had done or not done, he would probably exaggerate it.
Lost in the chatter was how The First Lady's words got into the speech. It's no secret that part of the speech-writing process is the speaker going out and finding good speeches that she wants her speech to sound like. Melania liked Michelle Obama's 2008 speech and wanted to make one like it. She admired the First Lady's words. The speechwriter said she ended up accidentally pasting the actual quotes Melania gave her. Occam's Razor says that's probably what happened.
Melania's open admission that she admired Ms. Obama's words was a rare breath of candor and charity in a very ugly and hateful political environment.
All that may be true, J.S.
But what gets lost in the explanation is the fact that Melania told Matt Lauer that she wrote the speech herself, with "very little help." And the fact that no one passed the speech through Nexus Lexus, a site that helps people check to make sure texts are not someone else's words, is hard to believe. According to Trump's people, Melania began work on this speech in April, so there was plenty of time for the speechwriter who helped her "a little bit" to check for anything that may have been someone else's work.
Yes, it's very touching that Melania admires Mrs. Obama. What is galling to us is that we are absolutely certain that the vampires on the right would have sucked the blood out of MRs. Obama had she screwed up in the same way that Melania and her team screwed up.
The vampires on the right still won't let go of Mrs. Obama's famous lines "For the first time in my adult life..." None of those blood-suckers, of course, have any idea of what Michelle or any other black woman or man endures in our racist society.
You so nicely pleaded for us to understand Mrs. Trump's mistake, but I'm pretty sure you still remind people about what Mrs. Obama said 8 years ago. Yes, we'll give Melania the benefit of the doubt, she seems like a nice woman; but never, never, never does anyone on the right do the same for Mrs. Obama, who has by any measure been a gracious, intelligent, conscientious First Lady, doing a job she didn't apply for but had to fill because of her husband's ambition.
I'll bet you comment at right wing sites where people have been known to refer to Mrs. Obama as a gorilla and have never given her credit for one solitary things that she's done as FLOTUS. But here you come scrambling to plead Mrs. Trump's case. It's a good example of how you people operate.
Well, I don't talk like that, calling people names, but there are a lot of vampires out there. Lots of hate flowing from many founts. Very few on any side claiming any high ground, in this old man's opinion anyway. Have a nice day.
I don't agree with the bothsiderists who claim both sides "do it."
Let's wait to see if the Democrats call for throwing Donald Trump in jail (he is under investigation for several fraud cases), or as one Trump supporter suggested for Hillary -- that we shoot him.
I damn well hope no one at the Dem convention sinks to the level of fear, vengeance, and hatred that's been so overwhelmingly evident at the GOP convention this week.
