DEAL?

The Associated Press ✔

@AP BREAKING: Syrian foreign minister says Syria has accepted Russian proposal to surrender control over its chemical weapons.

The con blogsphere lost its mind [assuming it had one] over something that has not happened.  Most reasonable folks took a "wait and see" approach instead of the "chicken little" hysteria gripping the cons.

IMO, we still have a "wait and see" approach, but at least the players are lining up their diplomats instead of their missiles.

For now.

"On Monday, Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem stated that his country welcomed the Russian proposal, which called for Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control and for the weapons to be destroyed. No time frame or further details were given about the proposal. It remained unclear whether Syria was making genuine strides toward a diplomatic resolution to the conflict that began in March 2011, or if the proposal was a ploy by Syrian President Bashar Assad to buy more time in the face of a potential U.S. strike."

Fascinating! So often just when a prior thread starts to get interesting and some worthwhile remarks find their way into print, suddenly a new thread opens, which of course jerks attention away from the developing conversation and discourages further contributions to it. It seems to me that opening this post was not strictly necessary. The news here had already been introduced and partially discussed in an earlier section minus the caustic partisan swipe at conservatives. To find the ground continually trembling and opening into fissures beneath one's feet is disconcerting to say the least, but perhaps that is exactly the intended effect of yanking the readership from pillar to post willy nilly?

Mr. or Ms. Welwischer,

I allow three threads on a page. All one has to do is scroll down and choose the thread one wants to continue to comment on.

Things are breaking fast on this story, and I choose to keep up with the latest.

The caustic partisan swipe?

Apparently you don't read the conservative blogsphere, my swipe is is positively Saint Teresan compared with the spittle-flecked hyenas who comment in the con blogistan:

Speramus Meliora; Resurget CineribusSeptember 9, 2013 at 2:53:00 PM EDT

What is the difference in rationale between The President of the United States and the Dictator/Tyrant in Iraq and Syria, they are both LAIRS & COWARDS!

Progressives are vile rodents, who are sometimes known as liberal Democraps.

"Liars, cowards, and vile rodents?" Oh my!

IIRC, [Oh dear! Here comes Godwin's Law], the Nazis used to denigrate and dehumanize certain groups of people so that it would be easier for the Germans to accept their total annihilation.

That mentality still exists in human nature, and is quite obvious in the quoted comment above.

Those sorts of commenters are what I was referring to in my "swipe,"

Those commenters are not clever; they're not intelligent; but they certainly are sick with redo-hot rage.

If you think I "swiped" at the conservatives, what would you call what that unhinged character wrote?

Those rightwingers sure love them Commies, don't they. They'd love to tongue-wipe Putin over this. But wait! Don't they call Obama a "commie?" So they hate the American who is not a commie, but love the ex-KGB commie whose a Ruskie?

Right-Wing Media's Love Affair With Putin Continues Over Syria Weapons Proposal

They idiots, of course, if they really believe Obama had nothing to do with this.

Commie lovers!

All the posts on this subject have been good.

Unhinged? Naw! THIS is UNHINGED--that is there's nothing this nutter can hang onto where sanity is concerned:

As to that thug in the "BLACK HOUSE" he will rot in hell along with the Muslim Brotherhood and every evil Muslim organization. Propoghanda, just like in Nazi Germany in the 1930's.

In Obama's book, which I wrote extensively on in the past - "The Audacity of Hope," published October 17, 2006 he wrote [parapharased], "If it comes down to standing with Israel or the Palestinians - I will stand with the Palestinians!" (Obama, 2006)

The idiot hasn't the decency to fact check to see if its true. They live in a fact-check challenged world where any lie they can grab onto is better than any fact that is unpleasant to their tiny little brains.

From FactCheck.org:

Q: Did Obama write that he would "stand with the Muslims" and that he nurses a "pervasive sense of grievance and animosity" toward whites?

A: No. A widely circulated e-mail fabricates some quotes from Obama’s books and twists others.

Misleading e-mail: From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]:

"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Shaw,
Your continued fascination with dregs, trolls, the very bottom of the Cyberspace barrel, mystifies me.

Some facts about bully behavior: When they get your attention, they are emboldened. When they get your goat, they double down with redoubled smugness. When you fixate on them, they know they've won (and the joke is on you because you allowed them into your life).

One minute, even one second, of your time wasted on dumb ass trolls are moments of life that you will never get back - especially when there are so many more ennobling pursuits. Face it. Let it go.

i have to ask myself, how would newt gingrich handle this if he was sitting in the big chair?

i don't know if he'd do a better job than obama but he'd probably put on a real good show.

obama has got soft and over confident playing checkers with the republicans but now he's playing chess with putin.

Hm. this poor wordsmith finds himself once again in general agreement with you (O)CT(O)PUS.

However, if you will, may I ask you to again define exactly what the definition of a cyberspace troll is? I recall you have done so in the past but it might be most helpful to do so again. For the purpose of clarity and understanding of course.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of my most timely (I think) request.

At Lucianne.com News Forum Homepage they used to have tremendous problems with moronic trolls and vicious personal feuds that would flare up and overwhelm a thread like a napalm attack.

They were able to solve the problem by forbidding PERSONAL REMARKS of ANY KIND to appear -- even those meant to be complimentary.

Any attempt at that and any stray opinions unrelated to the topic at hand are routinely scrubbed.

It's not a perfect system, and it requires a full-time staff of paid Site Police to enforce the policy, but it has been effective in stemming the tidal waves of idiocy and sheer filth found everywhere on the internet -- and I mean EVERYWHERE.

I chose to give up my blog, because, as I said at the time, I was not put on this earth to end my days as a garbage collector.

Your friend OCTO gives good advice, Ma'am. Never let anyone get your goat -- or at least never let them KNOW they have. ;-)

"So much for the argument from some on the left that Russia was “bailing out” Obama on Syria. The truth is that those in the media (I’m looking at you, Ed Schultz), and those on the left who were screaming warmonger were so completely wrong that they should be ashamed of themselves.

As usual, Barack Obama was ten steps ahead of his critics, and that’s why this president is moving closer to a diplomatic solution on Syria’s chemical weapons.

Here’s a newsflash for the media. Obama is smarter than you. All presidents use the media’s ability to jump off the ledge and get hysterical over anything, but Obama has raised the technique to the level of high art. It is amazing that so many of the Obama bashers and media car chasers haven’t figured out yet that nothing is said accidentally. Every word is measured and used for a reason.

The idea that Russia pounced on an idea that John Kerry just so happened to casually mention demonstrates a fundamental ignorance of both the diplomatic process, and how presidential administrations use the media.

Obama’s goal always has been to get a diplomatic solution, and once again this president has outsmarted those who are guided by their own small minded biases."

It's rather naive to believe that Kerry spoke "off the cuff" on a matter as serious as this.

The media was played beautifully by this administration.

RN and FreeThinke,

If I may venture a simple definition of a troll, they have many properties in common with a garden variety spambot:

Spambot example:
"I just luv ur blog so much, pleeze, pleeze, pleeze visit mine: Buy Viagra Online Here.

Trollbot example: "You [choose one from Column A below) are all the same, and you deserve to [choose one from Column B below].

Column A:
Godless maggots
Lo Mein on the totem pole
General Po Chicken Shits
Baby Corn with adoption papers

Column B:
Suc Mi Wang
Cho Kon It
Lik Sum Dung
Lee Da Wonton Life

If you perform a Google search on many trollbot comments, chances are you will find the same comment on hundreds of sites (which means it is pointless to reply in kind).

Think of some (choose: reclusive, deformed, depraved, degenerate) person with nothing better to do in life than to (choose: torment you, let them get your goat, get under your skin, crap on your bushes).

Hell, they have their own 24 hour network, but you're right about the shotgun technique. The other day on Facebook some "friend" posted something about how the "black community" was turning against Obama and gave a negative quote by "a black journalist" whom no one has heard of. Googling in I found nearly ten thousand repeats of the quote on ten thousand web sites but nothing whatever about the alleged spokesman for the "black community"

It's wrong to think of these trolls as isolated idiots. It may be madness but methinks there may be method in it.

So Putin, who has made disparaging remarks about obama for quite some time, works a deal to help obama save face.
Can you say cut off at the knees. Would the I was for it before I was against it senator ever say things in jest.
I am sure the obama spin machine is working overtime to make it look like this was a planned event.

And we're sure that no matter what this president and his administration accomplishes, you'll come here to bitch, moan, and repeat cockamamie rightwing talking points.

Which we will ignore.

Why don't you go over to your favorite rightwing blogs and tell them how brilliant you are on foreign policy?

(O)CT(O)PUS said...

Captain: "It may be madness but methinks there may be method in it."

Absolutely !!!!!

I have long suspected for years that there are boiler room operations that make up this stuff and then spread it across Cyberspace - a form of psychological warfare. My number one suspect: Freedom Works, i.e. Freeper Trolls.

This is the same organization (headed by Dick Armey before he was forced to resign) that kickstarted the Tea Party movement.

Originally, it was Freepers that distributed "How To" manuals for disrupting town hall meetings. Freepers in turn whip up disaffected, reactionary, and often hate-tinged elements of the fringe who then go freelance. It's the Cyber equivalent of BROWN SHIRTS fascists.

... the reason why I loathe and detest Freedom Works and their tactics, and the reason why I become so frustrated when the most naive among us fall into this trap.

(O)CT(O)PUS said...

Crud: "So Putin (...) works a deal to help obama save face."

Notice:
Putin - upper case
obama - lower case.

IOW, a wanton show of disrespect that hardly rises to the level of constructive discourse. The comment is hardly original; it started with Newt Gingrich who said it first on CNN's Crossfire.

Shaw, this person has never made an honest attempt to engage in honest discourse - EVER. The Crud's only purpose here is to inflame and annoy your readers. Time to dump the Crud before some of your readers start dropping out. Seriously!

skudrunner said...

Octo

Although you say I don't engage in honest discourse, what is it I have said that is not true. Granted we do not agree but isn't that part of discourse, otherwise you might as well have a conversation with yourself.

As to putting Putin in capitals and obama in lower case. That was an oversight on my part because putin should have been in lower case. If I took offense every time I was slammed on this site for being a Southerner I couldn't sleep at night, like calling me crud, that is truly offensive.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Skud: "So Putin, who has made disparaging remarks about obama for quite some time, works a deal to help obama save face."

Tell us how you know this to be an undisputed fact. And please link to where this is backed up by evidence.

skudrunner: "Can you say cut off at the knees."

That statement is nothing more than your biased, anti-Obama opinion.

skudrunner: "Would the I was for it before I was against it senator ever say things in jest."

What does this mean, except your way of mocking Secretary of State Kerry?

skudrunner: "I am sure the obama spin machine is working overtime to make it look like this was a planned event."

And how do we know what YOU wrote is not spin? Can you back up any of your snide remarks with hard evidence to prove them factually?

If you don't, all of it is nothing more than your biased opinion that is used to disparage anything this president does. It's boring and pointless.

skud: "If I took offense every time I was slammed on this site for being a Southerner..."

You've NEVER been "slammed on this site by me for being a Southerner." Ever. When you make that claim, you need to back it up, otherwise it's slander.

skudrunner: "I couldn't sleep at night, like calling me crud, that is truly offensive."

Do you ever examine what you post here? You seem to have forgotten your incessant repetition about "you didn't build that," a quote by President Obama, taken out of context, and which you gnawed, like a dog on a bone, for months before last year's election. Every time I corrected you, you came back and repeated it anyway.

And you wonder why people get ticked off at your comments? You're not interested in honest debate, just scoring gotcha quotes.

Shaw Kenawe said...

And (O)CT(O) is correct. That is trollish behavior. I've been more than generous in putting up with it for a long, long time.

If you want to criticize President Obama, give us reasons for your opposition using facts and rational arguments.

Coming here and depositing snide remarks that have nothing to do with policy and current events is, in fact, trollish behavior.

(O)CT(O)PUS said...

Shaw,

I can respect an honest difference of opinion that is sincere, well argued, or backed with reputable citations and substantiation.

But this is not what scud-the-crud is about. He doesn't argue, he TAUNTS. I doesn't present a different opinion, he BAITS and JEERS and MOCKS.

He plays DUMB over a deliberately disrespectful spelling error. Fat chance!

He accuses me of picking on a poor dumb Southerner. Sheer SOPHISTRY.

Then he plays the sympathy card - claiming sleepless nights. This hardly rises to the level of ironic mode comedy.

... and then accuses me of harboring a regional bias against Southerners when the stupid fool fails to realize: I am a Southerner. I live in the South.

Shaw, undoubtedly there is place for Scud-the-Crud ... but not here.

Flush. Swirl. Swirl. Thunk! Now for a little Lysol ...
