Susanne Atanus, Who Blames Gay Rights For Tornadoes, Wins GOP Nomination For Congress

Susanne Atanus found a comfortable home in the

"I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first," Atanus said. She said she believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as punishment for gay rights and legalized abortions.

Funny how the tornadoes mostly hit the South, the least gay-friendly part of the country. Apparently God's aim isn't very good.

The Brown and Bowman quotes in the top graphic show the effects of living in a closed bubble of alternate reality. They clearly have no idea how their words sound to normal people.

Lincoln once said, "Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." It would be interesting if men like these could spend a few years living the lives of slaves in the old South and then see if they felt they had been taken pretty good care of.

And probably these sorts of characters have never read first person accounts by people who actually suffered under slavery.

I've heard conservatives say slavery wasn't "all that bad," only a few bad apple slaveholders were cruel and beastly to their slaves, and even after emancipation, a good many slaves stayed with their masters. (As if the recently emancipated slaves had any worldly goods, money or property to go to!)

What totally escapes these small minds is the fact that blight of slavery at all existed in a country that bragged to the world, and still does, that it is a model of equality, freedom, and justice for all mankind.

That seems not to enter into any discussion on slavery because it causes dissonance in their thinking. They cannot hold these two conflicting ideas:

That their America that stood for "Liberty and Justice for All" at the same time tolerated one of the most horrendous forms of human bondage.

Don't these religious types believe that god will punish people after they die with hell fire and brimstone if they do wrong? So why do these types believe god sends punishments to them while they're alive? Is god a double-dipper? He's gonna punish the gays and women who get abortion when they're living and when they're dead? That's a bit of an overkill, innit?

the economic collapse of America IS going to happen. It cannot be stopped at this point. I guess 5 years of printing $85 billion per month might not really be that great an idea! Then again, following Zimbabwean monetary policy never was a good idea! Maybe the Fed will simply run out of paper.

I was discussing my conversation with WAR today with a friend here in Dallas and he asked me what I thought we needed to survive when the dollar collapses? Should we purchase gold and silver, guns, food, etc? All of the above? Should we have a bug-out location to head to should the world as we know it come to an end?

I gave him these wise words and I hope you will all take them to heart: “Hell if I know!”

One thing I would be very nervous about would be any money in the stock market. Companies have been benefiting from artificially low interest rates while cutting labor and production costs for years now. Interest rates WILL rise. I read an article at Ulsterman Report where supposed Wall Street insiders are getting out of the market in preparation for the collapse. All of this jives with what Wayne told me last weekend.

What I really told my friend is we will need food and the means to defend ourselves and families. Gold and silver might be nice but, when the lights go out, guns and ammo will most likely carry much more trade value. This is not discounting the need for something with trade value. Gold and silver are probably the best solutions. Food will also be important in an economic collapse as the transportation industry will be as screwed as everybody else. Shelves will probably be empty. It would be wise to have several months of food supply stored while Americans start figuring things out.

The reaction to 12 Years a Slave is surprising, at least to me but it probably shouldn't be.

McQueen's films have walked the "torture porn" line and I wondered if this was necessary. Apparently it was.

They are coming out of the woodwork from Duck Dynasty to "Judge" Napolitano to explain that slaves were really treated well, the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery and there have been no lasting negative effects.

So apparently a graphic period piece is still needed.

Are you at all curious about the candidate that lost to @Anus in the primary? I can't bring myself to check it out.

Shaw Kenawe said...

The "Anonymous" post @11:16 came from this blog.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ducky, no matter how many pretty words the apologists write or recite about how well slaves were treated, they cannot change this fact: Slavery was enforced and tolerated by huge numbers of people who at the same time believed in equality, liberty and justice for all.

You can't have slavery and that ideal co-existing. Either citizens believe holding humans as chattel is correct or they don't.

The South did not give up the idea of using people as chattel, property, and animals until they were FORCED to.

Those who keep trying to paper over that original sin of this country are the same people who have a tough time with reality. To them facts are inconvenient, and probably "liberal lies."

All we can do is push back at the attempts to rewrite history. IMO, those who try to make slavery out as "not so bad" are no better than Holocaust deniers.

Slavery happened. It was ugly, brutal, and inhuman.

And this country sanctioned it.

On your other question, Ducky, I don't know who @Anus lost to, but I'll see what I can find out.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Apparently @Anus's opponent was a guy named David Williams III, and he's accused Democrat Jan Schakowsky of telling her supporters to vote in the open primary for @Anus, the easier-to-defeat candidate.

Thus country did not sanction slavery. A small portion did. It was sanctioned by 1% of the population.

Shaw Kenawe said...

In 1781, the estimated population of the United States was 3.5 million. About 575,000 of these were slaves. In 1801, the year Thomas Jefferson became president, the population of the United States was 5,308,000, with 900,000 slaves. In 1830, U.S. population was 12.8 million, with more than 2 million slaves.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Slaveholding became more concentrated over time. The fraction of households owning slaves fell from 36 percent in 1830 to 25 percent in 1860.

The distribution of wealth in the South was much more unequal than that of the North.

First of all, I'm wondering why you even bother coming to a blog where you've called the blog owner, me, "a fat C**T" on Will Hart's blog.

Second of all your question shows a telling discomfort with confronting history and truth. Slavery was an institution that treated humans as chattel and animals, and it continued even after the Emancipation Proclamation, right up into the 20th century.

No one in my family ever participated in slavery, nor did they participate in the Holocaust. Keeping those monstrous episodes in mankinds' history is important. Most intelligent people understand why historians and others keep visiting those subjects. "Never Forget."

If you don't know that, and your comment above clearly shows you don't, not only are you a foul-mouthed miscreant, but you're ignorant as well. A very sad combination in an adult.

BTW, anyone who calls any woman "a fat C**T" has some very serious self-loathing issues. Get some psychological counseling.

Now go peddle your hate and ignorance elsewhere; and if you return to this blog, you will be deleted.

It is NOT illegal to be a racist in this country.

Free Speech still exists ever if the Moocher wants to dictate her crapola to the Communist Chinese. which is another Hypocrisy!

If it was illegal, almost every black person would be in jail, as it is they almost are already!

PS: blacks used to be the largest slave traders in the world before whites even knew what salve trading was."

Dave Miller said...

Shaw, where to begin? Clearly the kast couple if posts totally illustrate the GOP problem.

They have a virulent current in their party that not only is actively racist, but celebrates it.

Conservatives can complain all they want about being lumped collectively in this group, but unless and until they start denouncing these folks, and for bloggers, delaying their comments, their complaints will ring hollow.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm facilitating a group of doctors this week in the Sierra of Oaxaca and I've got to find a good salve supplier...

It is a good thing the South turned republican because it was democrat politicians who supported slavery.

If democrats don't keep racism in the forefront they would lose that threat.
Obama is totally incompetent but if you say the you are a racist.

To Anon: That's a simple-minded statement. If you read any history, you'd know that the South was Conservative, not Liberal. It wanted to "conserve" its way of life, and that way of life was the continuation of slavery.

The Southern Democrats were Conservative. I suggest you read about the Dixiecrats.

Secondly, the new Republican Party of the late 1850s, which nominated Lincoln, was made up of both Liberal southern Democrats and Liberal northern Republicans. Had I lived in Massachusetts at that time, I would have been a Liberal Republican who supported abolition.

That you even bother to write such a simple and uninformed comment shows everyone you don't know what you're talking about.

Your last statement is nothing more than partisan horseshit.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave Miller: "Shaw, where to begin? Clearly the kast couple if posts totally illustrate the GOP problem."

Yes. And the conservatives who daily read my blog and who copy and paste my comments call these reports "hate." They claim my blog is full of "filth" and "hate," when all I post is what is reported in the media.

Dave: "They have a virulent current in their party that not only is actively racist, but celebrates it."

They are in complete denial on this. And that's understandable. Their puerile statements saying criticism of Mr. Obama is seen as racism by liberals is nothing more than a smoke-screen so that they can continue their racist attacks on him and his wife and feel good about it.

Dave: "Conservatives can complain all they want about being lumped collectively in this group, but unless and until they start denouncing these folks, and for bloggers, delaying their comments, their complaints will ring hollow."

Certain conservative bloggers see nothing wrong with labeling President Obama as a "dirty son-of-a-bitch, and his parents as a "whore," a "Commie," and an "African savage, and then cry UNFAIR! WE'RE NOT RACIST! When they're called on it.

Dave: "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm facilitating a group of doctors this week in the Sierra of Oaxaca and I've got to find a good salve supplier..."

You're probably the only one in our little group of commenters and bloggers who actually do something to bring comfort and peace to those who need it most.

Shaw: All we can do is push back at the attempts to rewrite history.

I noticed that you recently commented on the blog of one such history re-writer. If you visit his blog again you'll see many more posts on how you're wrong written after your last comment. His latest one includes a reference to "Judge" Napolitano and his branding of those who correctly point to the fact that Lincoln ended slavery as being a part of the "church of Lincoln". Although this particular blogger is not one of the racists who are guilty of claiming that slavery wasn't that bad... I say that no matter your motivation, this kind of history rewriting is not something that should be tolerated... for the reasons noted by Shaw who said, "keeping those monstrous episodes in mankind's history is important [and we should] never forget".

People like Rusty (who left similar comments in response to my posting on this subject) want us to forget or, worse, "remember" facts that aren't true (the Civil War wasn't fought over slavery). Lying about the past makes it easier for them to continue behaving in a racist manner. It's just about all the Repubs have left in their futile effort to convince people to vote against their own best interest... vote for us because the GOP hates the same people you hate.

So democrats are only true democrats if the are liberal but all republicans are racist and believe in slavery.

We need to keep something that was abolished a century ago in the news but let's ignore the current cover ups of the current administration.
It is nice to see the administration delay the total implementation of obamacare. Wasn't that the reason Reid shut down the government and the scorn against Cruz?

"So democrats are only true democrats if the are liberal but all republicans are racist and believe in slavery."

Well actually no one here claimed that. But the labels "Democrat" and "Republican" are meaningless. It's one's outlook, either conservative or liberal. There are conservative Democrats, like Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, and Liberal Democrats like Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. They are not at all alike in their ideology.

There used to be liberal Republicans, like Lowell Weicker in the GOP, but none exist today. He would not have been anything close to what Senator Inahofe is.

I would support a liberal Republican over a conservative Democrat, if that helps you to understand this simple idea.

Anon: "We need to keep something that was abolished a century ago in the news but let's ignore the current cover ups of the current administration."

Your ignorance is appalling. Slavery continued up until the middle of the 20th century. But keep your head buried in a dark moist place so that you don't have to face reality.

Anon: "It is nice to see the administration delay the total implementation of obamacare."

Yes, it is nice. A huge program that serves hundreds of millions of people is not going to be rolled out without problems. Your kind delights in the glitches because you'd rather crow about the problems than solve them. Just what this country needs: folks who hate the administration more than they love their country. Good on you. Proud of yourself?

Anon: "Wasn't that the reason Reid shut down the government and the scorn against Cruz?"

Yes, of course. You people are good at delusional fantasies. BTW, Cruz is excellent at bringing scorn on himself. All he has to do is open his pie hole.

Anonymous, are you deliberately being obtuse? Slavery by law was abolished in 1865, but continued into the 20th century. If you don't know about it, that is because you don't want to. But the truth is that the southern states practiced slavery in the form of peonage and worse. Educate yourself so you don't make a fool of yourself with your uninformed comments.

Do you know what a non-sequitur is? See above.

Ten states – seven of them controlled by Republicans – hold the key to whether the Obama administration succeeds at signing up 6 million people by the deadline of March 31.

Those large states account for nearly 30 million uninsured – almost two-thirds of the nation’s 47 million uninsured.

The southern states hate Obama more than they care about the health of their citizens.

Who the hell would choose to live under regimes that treat their citizens like that?
