Republicans: Obama must defend Christian values

WASHINGTON (AP) Leading Republicans on Thursday insisted that America's leaders must do more to defend Christian values at home and abroad, blaming President Barack Obama for attacks on religious freedom as they courted social conservatives expected to play a critical role in the next presidential contest.

"Those of us inspired by Judeo-Christian values...have an obligation to our country and to our fellow man to use our positions of influence to highlight those values," Florida's Sen. Marco Rubio said at a conference hosted by the Faith and Freedom Coalition, a group led by long-time Christian political activist Ralph Reed"

(Yes, THAT Ralph Reed of the infamous Jack Abramoff scandal!)

So the party that hates any government intrusion in our lives, that despises government overreach, (especially when it advises healthy eating habits for our children and offers affordable health care to our citizens) yeah, that T-GOP now says it is appropriate for our government to promote one religion over all others by promoting its "values."

What the T-GOP means by "values" is a bit confusing, since it is:

Those Christian values protectors who voted over 50 times to take away affordable health care coverage for millions of poor people;

Those Christian values protectors who withheld Medicaid for the poorest of poor in those states where T-GOPer are governors;

Those Christian values protectors who voted against minimum wage increases for the bottom earners--the poor--in this country;

Those Christian values protectors who cut food stamps for the poor by $8 billion;

And those Christian values protectors who continuously blame and denigrate poor American citizens who receive government subsidies as "moochers" and "takers," while saying absolutely NOTHING about the billions of dollars that go to subsidize corporations.

Those are the Christian Values folks who called for President Obama to promote Christian Values, while at the same time they've done all they could to undermine those very values and ignored the fact that President Obama has worked to promote them.

I guess you haven't been keeping up. "Christian values" now means "God hates fags (and abortion)." All that help-the-poor stuff is just socialist window dressing that the liberal Marxist Kenyan evildoers use as a distraction.

Instead of preaching "Christian values", try preaching Christ's values. Read the Bible and see what Jesus Christ said and did. Supporting the poor and the sinners, fighting against the Righteous, and warning about the dangers of being wealthy.

Those were Christ's values, very different from what the Right Wing "Christians" are fighting for.

Words vs actions. Screw the Christian words. Where are the Christian actions?

Yeah, and this country is going to hell because it takes care of its poor. That's the thinking on the right.

Amazing.

They, of course, never look at the countries that have ample safety nets for their citizens and the fact that they are among the happiest and most thriving countries in the world.

One indicator of quality of life in these happy countries is income equality.

The United States ranks #17 worldwide.

The 1% are getting richer and richer, they've got lawyers to help them hide their taxable income, and the CEO's of large corporations make almost 400% more than the lowest paid of their employees!

Note to our conservative brethren, Mr. Obama and the Democrats have tried to get the GOPers on board to address income equality. The T-GOPers just say NO!

Shaw Kenawe said...

That should have read "income INEQUALITY."

Les Carpenter said...

Straying into the utopian world of making framing equal in terms of income equality.

Never gonna happen because until such time as everyone has comparable capabilities, comparable ingenuity and drive, is making equal contributions in effort, willing to work as long and do whatever it takes to get the job done, there ain't gonna be equality in income.

We can do much, both from a corporate and government perspective to perhaps make life more equitable for some, but true income equality is a pipe dream for many logical reasons.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Income equality means equal pay for equal work. Not that everyone makes the same salary for any job.

Les Carpenter said...

Shaw, who decides "equal pay" for "equal work", every place I have ever worked, or managed individuals in like jobs doing satisfactory work, in other words being productive, received the same standard level pay or salary. Which of course as it should be.

However, if the company has incentive, or bonus pay the top achievers based on increased output over and above standard, or innovative ideas and thinking that are implemented, and other objective criteria can earn more money than their less productive or innovative counterparts.

So based on your one line response I assume we are in agreement here. Please correct me if I am in error.

!. Destroy the social welfare state.

2. Try to narrowly define sexuality.

3. Bomb the mud people if they get uppity.

4. Promote laissez-faire wealth distribution. It's the Calvinist thing to do.

Did I miss any right wing Christian values?

'defend Christian values and rights'...is Ralphie Reed concerned about his flavor...
or the other 1499 denominations?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Not all companies award equal pay for equal work. But I think you and I, RN, agree on this.

Ducky, your points are well taken. Sadly, they are what the true believers on the right support. I notice the folks on the closed blog all talk about you and insult you but the hostess won't allow you to post? They can't handle anyone who disturbs their narrow world view . It's funny how so many of those people denigrate lefties (libtards to them) but can't take reading any other point of view but their own. That's why they're wrong on just about everything they bitch about. They cute little whiners.

It's not just an issue of equal pay for equal work. The US is unique among advanced nations in the concentration of income to a tiny elite. Here's an example.

How can anyone defend this? Are American CEOs really 40 times more productive than German ones? I don't think so.

Les Carpenter said...

I would tend to agree with you Infidel753. It is highly improbable American CEOs are even 20 times more productive than their German counterparts.

A great face plant is we were dead broke and our hundreds of millions don't make us like the rich because we pay taxes.
How's that going to play in Pittsburg

It is well known that liberals are far more likely than conservatives to be nonreligious. It is also well known that liberals talk endlessly about poverty. Yet in their daily lives they do the least about it: they volunteer the least; they give less blood; they are less likely to help someone find a job; and they donate the least. Their idea of charity is to have the government raise taxes, i.e., take money from others, and spend it on welfare programs.

The data had grave implications this election season. Paul Ryan is being lectured by liberals—the most miserly people in the nation—for not being responsive to the poor. It doesn’t get more absurd than this. Not until liberals catch up with conservatives in their charitable giving are they in a position to lecture anyone about the poor.

Are we seeing Christian values play out in Detroit?

The recent revelation (our media have been sitting on this for a while) that residents are having their water shut off at the rate of a few hundred a week is a reminder of how little we care about fellow human beings.

Debate the reasons for Detroit's situation as you like. It's certainly an important topic but are we at the point where we are going to deny people water? A large number of these shutoffs involve children.

What ever happened to the sermon on the mount.
When did we start putting privatization and profit ahead of even basic human needs (rights?).

And on the right we will simply hear it's all the fault of unions and "libtards". As for the poor in Detroit with no water, screw 'em. Tell them to get a job.

Who's next for the tender ministrations of "the market", Camden? Oh it's not going to stop here and the Calvinist right wouldn't have it any other way.

How did we get this low?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anonymous @10:21 am. It is a well documented fact that the ten states that do the LEAST for the poor are all red states. So what are you talking about. The most effective way of helping the poor is to allow them to earn a living wage-- raise the minimum wage, and to offer them a chance to buy affordable health care. When one can support her or his family by working for a living wage and when one can be healthy and not fear a financial catastrophe from an accident or illness, that can lead to a productive life. The conservative red states do a terrible job in helping their poor make better lives for themselves

Individual charity cannot do the job alone.

Check this out on Google and see for yourself how stingy conservative red states are:

Ducky: "How did we get this low?"

The Corporate Overlords convinced those with little to hate those who have even less, and then feel righteous about it.

And they take the largest share of tax money relative to what they pay in taxes.

The interesting factor is this, at least in my book:

1) The lines have been drawn
2) The "troops" are hunkered down on their respective "sided"
3) The salvos are launched across opposition lines
4) America is ths casualty

Yep, no sense having rational discussions with those of differing views, nope, too much pride of authorship if you will on both sides for that to happen.

Time for a Sam Adam Rebel. Seems to be the only thing making sense these days

Oh, and The World Cup, always good of ya have a brewski.

The point of this post is to highlight the hypocrisy of people like Ralph Reed and his fringe followers who whine about President Obama NOT promoting Christian values, while at the same time supporting politicians and policies that subvert those values.
