Two Las Vegas police officers and a civilian have been reportedly killed in a shooting spree that started at a pizza restaurant and spilled over to a neighboring Walmart store. Two suspects – a man and a woman – are reportedly down.

The two shooters have committed suicide, according to police. Suspects told shoppers they were part of a "revolution" and wanted a shootout with Metro police force – and had a "suicide pact." Their bodies were found in the back of the store.

Details are yet to emerge, but police sources told Las Vegas Review-Journalthat the two officers were killed by a man and a woman who approached them at the CiCi’s Pizza just before 11:38 am local time.

As the couple was leaving the restaurant, one yelled “This is the start of a revolution!” witnesses report. The shooters stripped the officers of their weapons and ammunition and went into the Walmart at 201 North Nellis.

Inside the Walmart, according to another unconfirmed account, the couple exchanged fire with a citizen who was carrying a concealed gun.

At a news conference at 13:00 deputy Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters that the male shooter, described as a tall white man, yelled “everyone get out” before shooting in Wallmart. The man and woman then proceed to the back of the store and “there was some kind of suicide pact,” McMahill said."

This just a couple days after an attempted armed takeover at a Georgia courthouse.

Shaw Kenawe said...

So the country is experiencing one of these a day. I hope the criminal heads of the N.R.A. are enjoying the carnage they've worked so hard to create.

How long will the idiots who believe they can execute an "armed takeover" of this country continue with this madness?

I must admit Maher is funny. Could it be because of the truth spoken? Methinks without a doubt.

NRA and sanity cannot be spoken or written within the same sentence.

It isn't the "Soetoro gang" demoralizing the nation, it's the WATB*s like Anonymous who never miss a chance to malign our American president.

okjimm, "ammosexual" is perfect to describe the nutz walking around showing off their, um, packages! LOL!

RN, the N.R.A. outdid their idiocy in encouraging this foolish idea of in-your-face-open-carry.

Do cars kill people?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anonymous @11:19, you and countless other people use this false equivalency argument all the time, and it's getting boring to have to explain to you and the others who continue this silliness that

1) A car's purpose is not to kill. It's primary use is for transportation to work, school, doctor's appointments, food shopping, etc. People in suburbs and rural communities cannot live without the use of a car; many thousands of people manage to live in suburban and rural communities without owning and operating firearms.

2) A firearm's purpose is for killing. It's secondary use is possibly for target practice, which target is often a human body.

Please stop with the incessant nonsense of "cars kill people, too, so let's ban them too!"--which is the idiotic false equivalency of a lot of shallow-thinking folks. No one on this blog ever talked about banning firearms, since the right to own them is in the Constitution.

What I and many other Americans support are restrictions on that right, as there are restrictions on all of our other 1st Amendment rights, and the fact that the criminal leadership of the N.R.A. has fought even background check for mentally ill people demonstrates that the N.R.A. has no interest in responsible gun ownership, only in filling gun manufacturers' and its bank accounts.

A couple of items from our local press here in the Las Vegas area.

1. There seems to be the possibility that the dead civilian was armed and engaged the two shooters.

2. Many are saying these guys were at least somewhat connected to White Supremacy groups and participated in the Cliven Bundy faceoff.

For what it's worth...

There has got to a balance point between arming America and confiscating all guns.

I used to work in the very area where these shootings took place. Over the years it has seen incredible economic and racial change. It is now known as heavily Latino, and in Las Vegas, that means mostly Mexican.

I am sure there are some in that area who are not overly happy with the demographic changes to their neighborhood.

It was never a high end economic zone, but as many of you know, perception often trumps reality and that is certainly the case in this instance.

Just a Cliven Bundy note... the press here is reporting that Bundy owes more in back fees than the sum total of every other rancher in the nation.

I know some of those folks, and they are disgusted with him. It does not surprise me that these two people, who basically executed the cops as they were eating lunch, are from that crowd.

The Derp Squad said...

We should just trust that anybody carrying around the means for easily killing or maiming fellow human beings in public places isn't a lunatic, 'cause we can be certain they respect rights 'n stuff. That's all kinds of comforting.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave,

I'm betting the folks on conservative blogs still think Bundy and his followers are real "Murkins," and Atty. Gen. Holder and Pres. Obama are the ones destroying this country.

IMO, this is what they've been hoping for since January 20, 2009.

Re you header about the GOP and Bergdahl. Obama’s defenders will say anything — ANYTHING! — to prevent the exposure of what a bad deal the trade of five Taliban “generals” for one PFC who, apparently, deserted the US Army.

Just watch how all the spin plays out. It’s like the Ministry of Truth in Orwell’s 1984.

And it’s pure Alinsky. Check those 10 Alinsky Rules.

Les Carpenter said...

May 3, 1994 To Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

We are writing to urge your support for a ban on the domestic manufacture of military-style assault weapons. This is a matter of vital importance to the public safety. Although assualt weapons account for less than 1% of the guns in circulation, they account for nearly 10% of the guns traced to crime.

Every major law enforcement organization in America and dozens of leading labor, medical, religious, civil rights and civic groups support such a ban. Most importantly, poll after poll shows that the American public overwhelmingly support a ban on assault weapons. A 1993 CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 77% of Americans support a ban on the manufacture, sale, and possession of semi-automatic assault guns, such as the AK-47.

The 1989 import ban resulted in an impressive 40% drop in imported assault weapons traced to crime between 1989 and 1991, but the killing continues. Last year, a killer armed with two TEC9s killed eight people at a San Francisco law firm and wounded several others. During the past five years, more than 40 law enforcement officers have been killed or wounded in the line of duty by an assault weapon.

While we recognize that assault weapon legislation will not stop all assault weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals. We urge you to listen to the American public and to the law enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of these weapons.

Sincerely,

Gerald R. Ford

Jimmy Carter

Ronald Reagan

Do cars kill people? yupperz, they sure do...especially, just like guns, when they are operated by folks who do not know how to use them. That is why you need a liscense to operate a car, why you need to pass a test to drive, why they check your vision on a regular basis, why you cannot drink and drive....I think, like cars, all guns should have rear view mirrors so the shooter can see himself...and check if he is nutz.

Well, surprise, surprise

The Las Vegas terrorists seem to have been part of the Bundy get together.

They say they came back more radicalized.
Couple of white supremacist terrorists came back "more" radicalized.
Chew on that one for a bit.

Surprise, Surprise! Alex Jones Calls Las Vegas Shooting a False Flag Set Up By Obama

Alex Jones is a special sort of fruitcake who attracts Baggers like flies to you-know-what.

I've seen his conspiracy feculence copied and pasted into many a right winger's blog where it is consumed, regurgitated and spread around in blast emails.

Jones claims the shootings in Las Vegas were a false flag concocted by President Obama and Eric Holder!

What's hilarious about that is if anyone wanted to set up a false flag to make all of TeaBaggistan look like a bunch of babbling lunatics, they'd contrive someone like Alex Jones as a hero they'd devoutly follow.

He's perfect. And so's his hair.

Dave Miller said...

Actually Annie, if you were a regular reader, as opposed to a troll, or lurker, you would know that many of us here have real issues with President Obama and some of his policies.

While we support him, we are by no means monolithic in that support and some of us have been quite critical.

The Bergdahl case is unsettling, with good and bad from all angles.

And that alone makes it difficult for many to comprehend, particularly those that choose to live in world where everything must be black, or white.

Dave Miller said...

Confirmed, the shooters put swastikas on the dead police.

Yessir, it's good people like this can buy and carry weapons whenever and where ever they want.

Maybe some conservatives can answer this...

Is the right to have a weapon unconditional? If not, under what circumstances can, or should it be curtailed?

Of course Maher owns a gun himself and says he will never give it up.

Anonymous said...

Why do You call him American President? Do you feel the need to legitimize him?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anonymous, what do you mean by that comment? Neither Bill Maher nor anyone here has said anything about giving up guns.

Bill Maher made fun of the ninnyhammers who show up at family restaurants packing their AK-47s. Why do they do it? What's the point, other than to show off how stupid they are.

That's what this post is about. It has nothing to do with Maher or anyone who has half a brain and who owns a gun.

Neither Maher nor anyone who isn't a galloping moron would show up at a family restaurant or a hardware store packing an automatic weapon.

Not surprisingly, you didn't get the point of this post.

Why do you feel the need to question it? Got a problem? Does it get under your skin?

Anonymous said...

If you don't think being a gun owner who says he will not give up his gun doesn't suggest a biased view on any gun issue, you don't see to clear.

Anonymous said...

Bill has a license to carry. I'm sure he probably has bought his gun into public places.

Ducky's here said...

Anonymous, does Bill Maher walk into a family restaurant, where folks are just trying to catch a burger or a burrito, with an semi-auto slung over his shoulder and force those families to participate in the fringe gun culture?

Surely you can see the point here.

By the way, in the Las Vegas shooting there were reports that gunfire was exchanged with an armed civilian and here was a civilian found dead at the scene.
Any thoughts?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anon: "Bill has a license to carry. I'm sure he probably has bought his gun into public places."

Get back to us when Bill and you talk this over and he confirms it.

Anymore comments that are based on mere speculation on what Bill Maher does or doesn't do with his gun will not be published.

Ducky, you can' talk sense to fanatics. Maher did a perfect job of mocking the ammosexuals who feel they have to make a statement by displaying their weapons in public and scaring women and children.

Anonymous said...

It's not speculation. He has publicly stated this on his show and other shows he has been interviewed on, but thanks for the smart ass reply. Maybe you should know what you are talking about, especially since it is public knowledge and something Bill himself has stated publicly. Educate yourself. I doubt you will post this comment, but check your facts.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Yeah. Bill Maher is a total fan of the 2nd Amendment, just listen to what he says about it:

Gun control supporter Bill Maher admitted he owns guns for personal protection even though he thinks the Second Amendment is “bullsh*t.”

On an HBO Real Time episode, Maher criticized the failed Manchin-Toomey expanded background checks bill because it prohibited a national gun registry. ” … Of course we need a gun registry,” Maher said. “The Second Amendment is bullsh*t.”

Much of the opposition to the Senate bill centered on concerns, despite denials from Manchin-Toomey supporters, that a federal gun registry would be the next step.

Later in the show, Maher offered this interesting revelation: “As long as we live in the gun country, I ain’t giving up my gun … there have been 12 home invasions in my neighborhood in the last year … I have two guns, one upstairs and one down.” Maher presumably lives in an upscale Beverly Hills enclave."

Shaw Kenawe said...

And owning a gun makes Bill Maher such a hypocrite (BTW, he says nothing about conceal carrying his guns to restaurants and hardware stores. CCW varies in Calif. from incorporated city to incorporated city) or open carrying (which I believe is illegal in Calif.)

Maher appeared on Fusion’s America with Jorge Ramos, and at one point the host brought up the rumor he heard that Maher owns a gun. After confirming that it’s true, Maher said the difference between him and conservative gun owners in America is that he doesn’t “love” his gun, he just keeps it on hand in case of an emergency.

“Of course, I think the Republicans are insane about guns,” Maher told Ramos, “because they love guns, which is a sick position to have in the first place, to love something like a gun? I don’t love my gun, I have it the way I have, maybe, you know, antibiotics. It’s not something I love, it’s something in case of an emergency that I might have to use.”

Les Carpenter said...

The 2'nd Amendment is not bulls*it, contrary to Maher's utterances.

What is bulls*it are the gun crazies that lead sane people to make bullsh*t comments.

skudrunner said...

Why would anyone want to carry a rifle into a restaurant, it make no sense. For that matter open carry make no sense and that is why few states approve it.

Mr Duck, it is possibly a good thing the LAS civilian had a gun or more people might have been killed.

The idea that it is only republicans who own and carry guns in absurd. There are a lot more gun owners than there are republicans, look at the last two presidential elections.

Dave Miller said...

Skud... certainly there are some here in Las Vegas that are thinking about your possibility.

However, he didn't get a shot off and was killed instantly by the unseen woman who was waiting nearby.

I think it is a stretch to show that Wilcox' actions actually saved lives, and now his family is fatherless.

There is little or no evidence in the public domain yet, that the shooters had any intent to harm anyone other than police. If so, they could hace gunned down a multitude of people fleeing Walmart right in front of them.

Anonymous said...
