A gifted comic and actor and a fierce liberal too!

"Williams was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party and perhaps one of the most liberal actors in Hollywood–which is saying a lot.

He pushed the limits of social convention in his films from a cross-dressing nanny in Mrs. Doubtfire to a gay father who makes a fool (and a cross dresser) out of a conservative politician in The Birdcage.

But in the real world, Williams said he thought gay marriage should be legal, but threw a joke in for good measure:

You could talk about same-sex marriage, but people who have been married [say] ‘It’s the same sex all the time.’

His support of the Democratic Party went into six-figure territory, with his political donations to the party and left-leaning special interest groups totaling over $150,000.

His liberalism extended into criticisms of Republicans and conservatives with the full weight of his comedic and critical genius going to former U.S. president George W. Bush. For example, when Obama was elected he said:

It’s the end of the reign of George the 2nd. The reign of error is over. America is officially out of rehab…

____ IN MEMORIAM: ROBIN WILLIAMS ____

_________ Staying in Character _________

Endearing, though preposterous, as you were,
Real affection from persona fake
Incredibly, for your dear children’s sake,
Flowed naturally, –– but with a trace of myrrh.
This bitterness directed just toward you
Betrayed your guilt at living past the norm
Usually accepted as good form.
Oh how easily you’d have gotten through
Demands domestic, if you’d just been steady!
Sadly, however, urges wild and heady
Remained in charge, and so your judges ruled
Maturity you lacked. They’d not been fooled.
Only then –– by showing some resolve
Through queer disguise –– did you your problem solve.
