Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them -- Part Gazillion

The lying loons on the rabid radical right are at it again -- sending around an email with a video about Hillary defending a man who raped a 12-year old girl and, get this! HILLARY LAUGHED ABOUT IT!

There are some facts to this contrived email:  When Hillary was a young lawyer, she was assigned, against her wishes, the case as the defense lawyer.  There was laughing--years later when, in an interview, she recalled certain aspects--not having to do with the child involved--of the case.

So what did the loons on the right do? They took pieces of this story; and in their best Breitbartian way, turned it into a smear campaign on Hillary Clinton. When it comes to dirty politics, gutter tactics, and outrageous slander, the loons on the right have no equal.

Here's the truth about what happened:

Q: Did Hillary Clinton volunteer in 1975 to defend a rapist, who was found not guilty, and laugh about it in an interview in 1980?

A: Clinton defended an accused rapist, but she did not volunteer. He pleaded guilty to a lesser offense. She laughed when recalling unusual aspects of the case.

In 1975, Hillary Clinton — then known as Hillary Rodham — taught at the University of Arkansas School of Law, where she founded the University of Arkansas School Legal Aid Clinic. It was during this time that she defended Thomas Alfred Taylor, a 41-year-old man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. In her book “Living History,” Clinton recalls that Mahlon Gibson, a Washington County prosecutor, told her that the accused rapist “wanted a woman lawyer” to defend him, and that Gibson had recommended Clinton to Judge Maupin Cummings.

“I told Mahlon I really didn’t feel comfortable taking on such a client, but Mahlon gently reminded me that I couldn’t very well refuse the judge’s request.” Gibson corroborated Clinton’s story in a 2014 interview with CNN.

CNN, June 25, 2014: Gibson said Clinton called him shortly after the judge assigned her to the case and said, “I don’t want to represent this guy. I just can’t stand this. I don’t want to get involved. Can you get me off?” “I told her, ‘Well contact the judge and see what he says about it,’ but I also said don’t jump on him and make him mad,” Gibson said. “She contacted the judge and the judge didn’t remove her and she stayed on the case.”

In a separate 2014 interview, Clinton said she had an “obligation” to represent Taylor. “I had a professional duty to represent my client to the best of my ability, which I did,” she said. In her book, Clinton writes that she visited Taylor in the county jail and he “denied the charges against him and insisted that the girl, a distant relative, had made up her story.”

Clinton filed a motion to order the 12-year-old girl to get a psychiatric examination. “I have been informed that the complainant is emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing … [and] that she has in the past made false accusations about persons, claiming they had attacked her body,” according to an affidavit filed by Clinton in support of her motion. Clinton also cited an expert in child psychology who said that “children in early adolescence tend to exaggerate or romanticize sexual experiences and that adolescents with disorganized families, such as the complainant’s, are even more prone to such behavior,”Clinton wrote in her affidavit.

Ultimately, expert testimony from a scientist “cast doubt on the evidentiary value of the blood and semen the prosecutor claimed proved the defendant’s guilt in the rape,” Clinton writes in her book. Clinton negotiated a plea deal and Taylor was charged with “Unlawful Fondling of a Child Under the Age of Fourteen” and was sentenced to one year in a county jail and four years of probation, according to a final judgment signed by Cummings.

In 2014, the Washington Free Beacon published the audio of an interview that Arkansas reporter Roy Reed conducted with Clinton in the 1980s. In the interview, Clinton recalls some unusual details of the rape case, and she can be heard laughing in three instances, beginning with a joke she makes about the accuracy of polygraphs.

Clinton: Of course he claimed he didn’t. All this stuff. He took a lie detector test. I had him take a polygraph, which he passed, which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs. [laughs]

At another point, Clinton said the prosecutor balked at turning over evidence, forcing her to go to the judge to obtain it.

Clinton: So I got an order to see the evidence and the prosecutor didn’t want me to see the evidence. I had to go to Maupin Cummings and convince Maupin that yes indeed I had a right to see the evidence [laughs] before it was presented.

Clinton then said that the evidence she obtained was a pair of the accused’s underwear with a hole in it. Clinton told Reed that investigators had cut out a piece of the underwear and sent the sample to a crime lab to be tested, and the only evidence that remained was the underwear with a hole in it. Clinton took the remaining evidence to a forensic expert in Brooklyn, New York, and the expert told her that the material on the underwear wasn’t enough to test. “He said, you know, ‘You can’t prove anything,'” Clinton recalled the expert telling her.

Clinton: I wrote all that stuff and I handed it to Mahlon Gibson, and I said, “Well this guy’s ready to come up from New York to prevent this miscarriage of justice.” [laughs] "

The truth doesn't matter to the rabid radicals on the right -- look at the guy they're supporting to understand why.

Shaw... this is the type of political hatchet job we've seen for years from political strategists of all types, both libs and cons.

But there is something deeper in that video, available on the "Mother Ship" in all its glory. Buried about the mid point is a line that says HRC got the guy off on a technicality. I hear that word, technicality, a lot from conservatives. To them she used a technicality to free a guilty man. To others, she used the law and the constitution, to provide a defense of an accused man.

Sadly in todays society, when I win, it's good. When you win, someone cheated, or used a technicality to win. And that is almost roundly true across all political, cultural and societal lines.

No sane person believes ANYTHING the right claims, these days. They've more than proven themselves to be liars with no honor and no morals. If a rightie claims it's dark outside, I lather on the spf 50!

I guess i should add that while both parties do this, the GOP has a really bad history. think Lee Atwater, Willie Horton, Swift Boating, John McCain has an illegitimate black daughter, Obama is otherworldly, Obama is UnAmerican, Obama is a Kenyan, Obama is not Constitutionally qualified to be President, Hillary has murdered many people, HRC supports rapists...

Should we go on?

It's an effective lie because the weak-minded will believe it. Theyre really digging arne't they? Going into the distant past to slime her. But it won't matter, Trump is Loser Man Walking.

The Mothership is in high dudgeon today, Dave.

The queen bee is all upset about Ben Carson's appearance on Morning Joe .
Seems that Ben Asleep brought up the fact that both candidates are the same age and if one
releases medical records, both should.
"On the other hand, Ben Carson has lost SO MUCH of my respect, sadly. He’s another person who just doesn’t think through what he’s saying…."

Then another site has Jeanine Pirro screaming about the AP story on the Clinton Foundation.
It doesn't go into detail about the names but we are supposed to be upset that private citizens who
received grants from the foundation had audiences. Some of the damning possibilities here are Ben Affleck, Melinda Gates, Elie Wiesel ... real smoking gun material.

Quinnipiac's poll came out with some real bad news for Drumpf (trailing by 10) so there must be a conspiracy somewhere.

Of all the lies being used against Hillary, this one is the most despicable. The truth needs to be spread far and wide.

And considering some of the accusations against their candidate, the Republicans are being very unwise to pursue this line of attack.

Dave: "Sadly in todays society, when I win, it's good. When you win, someone cheated..."

This is the tactic Trump's already set up for his defeat -- if he loses, it's because the election was rigged. In the rabid radical right, no Democrat can legitimately win a presidential election.

Bluebull: "They've more than proven themselves to be liars with no honor and no morals."

Just imagine if, say, Barack Obama had accepted the Democratic nomination for the presidency with his 5 children from three wives on the stage! That they, the "family values/moral majority," didn't blink an eye over that (plus his nude model present wife -- what if Michelle had posed buck nekkid! in a magazine?) that shows not just that they're phony family values/moral majority Goopers, but that they also buy into white privilege -- when a white rich guy does it, it's okay!

Dave: "Should we go on?"

Dave, I believe we haven't seen the worse yet. *shudder*

Anonymous, The far right has sunk this low because they know they're stuck with a losing candidate.

Ducky's here, they don't accept any sort of criticism, even if it comes from Kindly Doctor Ben Carson. He's correct, of course, Trump is older than Hillary, and, IMO, he looks like a physical wreck, compared with Barack Obama, and even GWB!

Infidel753, interesting, isn't it, that they have nothing to say about the accusation of rape against Trump, but jump on accusations of rape about Bill Clinton. And that's all they've been -- accusations. They continue to label the Clintons as "criminals" when neither have been tried and found guilty of an criminal action. And the fact that this hasn't happened means, to the conspiracy cranks, that they've somehow bent the law to their advantage. This is the sort of thinking one reads from aggrieved people who can't get what they want.

Poor Ann Coulter. This must be so disappointing.

My worship for him is like the people of North Korea worship their Dear Leader --- blind loyalty. Once he gave that Mexican rapist speech, I'll walk across glass for him. That's basically it. Unlike the crazy Cruz supporters, I'll criticize him, and I have, but it's all minor stylistic stuff. We all want to shoot him at various times.--- Ann Coulter (h/t Digby)

Someone better put Ann on a suicide watch.

Hey Shaw,

I do understand why you had to be out of town, no worries. When the grand jury's term expires, you come back from "vacation." A girl's gotta do....

I did ask about you while I was wandering on the north end. There were a couple of old guys sitting on a bench outside one of those private clubs. One said, "That girl! She's crazy with the politics, yes?"

The other replied, "Si, lei è pazza. But, quegli stivali!"

The first: "Si, gli stivali."

Beats me. I don't speak the language. But they were smiling.

Gordon,

For someone who spent so little time in the neighborhood, your Italian is impeccable!

Sì, gli stivali avevano caldi, ma troppo caldi per agosto!

Also, I've been at the shore, too hot in the city. Hope your visit was a good one.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Also, you know that Italy is referred to as "Lo Stivale" = "The Boot."

Ducky, I don't think Ann Coulter actually believes most of the crap she writes. She knows how to get her gullible followers to spend their money on her worthless books. Like Trump, she's a grifter of the highest order.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ducky,

Is it wrong that I'm smiling?:

From TPM: "Liberals may die tonight because there are limited supplies of those injections they give you for acute schadenfreude toxicity. Ann Coulter has been Donald Trump's biggest New York City white nationalist supporter. She's transformed toadying into a militant act. Just today her new book In Trump We Trust was released, a genuflecting, tour de force of leader principle obsequiousness. As many have noted, in the book itself she writes that Trump can do anything, change his position on anything - none of it matters. She and they are that devoted. Everything except shift on immigration.

So today, the very day her book comes out he shambles his way to embracing the Rubio/Bush 'Amnesty' agenda he spent the last year railing against and using as a cudgel to destroy the Republican establishment's favored ones. She even had an opening book party hosted by Breitbart.

Already at the book party, photos snapped by Twitters journos showed a sad visage and perhaps a growing thunder ...

Poor bony old Ann Coulter! HAHAHAHAHAHA Couldn't happen to a sleazier old skeleton.

Ah, you know I don't have the language. I just have an ear for stuff. But it's a shame I don't, because after that panzarotti from Umberto's I started talking like that guy from The Godfather. You know, The One who Was going to betray Michael, but then Robert Duvall brings him a cigar, and he doesn't betray Michael, and slits his wrists in the tub. That guy. It's probably why I was able to pick out thE spelling.

And the beach is a good idea because process servers never go there. No pockets to hold the papers, and swimming gets the subpoenas all wet, and the ink runs. Servers don't like beaches.
