To Impeach or Not To Impeach: That is the question.

A commenter here on P.E. posted,  "The dems have stated that they are going prosecute trump and bring impeachment proceedings as their main objective so there will be fireworks and get nothing done which with the total incompetence of congress is not a bad thing."

Should we let Trump get away with what he's done in the first two years of his second term? And if so, why?

Would the commenter -- who apparently thinks it's a waste of time to bring a president to accountability for high crimes and misdemeanors -- would that commenter feel the same way if a Democratic POTUS had done what Trump has done while president?

NOTE: By the standard in the Constitution, I don't believe Trump has committed treason:

Under Article III, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, treason is strictly defined as levying war against the United States, or adhering to their enemies by giving them aid and comfort.

A "Letter to the Editor" in today's NYTimes:

To the Editor:

President Trump recently acknowledged that the monuments rising from his architectural ambitions in Washington are, at least in part, monuments to himself.

When asked about it, he replied: “That’s true. Nobody will do it once I’m gone. When I leave here, nobody will.”

Perhaps that is precisely the point. George Washington did not build the Washington Monument.
Abraham Lincoln did not commission the Lincoln Memorial. Thomas Jefferson did not erect the Jefferson Memorial. Those monuments were built after they were gone, by a grateful nation that had time to judge their accomplishments, their character and their place in history. Great leaders do not need to build monuments to themselves. They build a record and leave the judgment to generations that follow.

There is something profoundly revealing about a president who apparently fears that if he does not construct his own monuments while he possesses the power to do so, no one will build them after he is gone.

Monuments are supposed to represent the gratitude of a nation, not the vanity of the person occupying its highest office. So when Mr. Trump says, “Nobody will do it once I’m gone,” maybe he should ask himself why. And perhaps the rest of us should remember:

The greatest monument a president can leave behind is not made of marble, stone or gold. It is a country made better because he was there.

Is that all this blog has to say?
Impeach Impeach

Obviously, Anon, you don't read my blog, because that most certainly is NOT all it has to say. But if we have to impeach this corrupt Trump for the THIRD time, so be it.

The saying, "The third time is a charmer," may be correct.

Why should a law-breaking, corrupt Trump get away with all he's done?

Answer that. Trump is like a spoiled rotten child whose parents (we the people) have let him get away with rotten behavior for too long.

My answer is going to be one that you won’t like But I’ll give it to you anyway. Why don’t you EVER say the exact thing or things about BIDEN and the rest of the Socialism and Communist bunch at the Failed Party of yours?

That's true. Nobody will do it when I'm gone.

Perhaps one of the most truthful statement ever uttered by the malignant narcissist.

trump knows he is not well liked or respected by the majority of the people in this nation, although he'll never admit it.

With his approval ratings near gutter level (with most everyone but the trump/MAGA cultists)and declining he senses correctly.

The issues you say the constitution still requires interpretation.
1. Abuse of power - They all abuse their power it just depends on degree.
2. Corruption - They all have been accused of corruption including saint joe
3. Obstruction - What does that mean. Does any president not obstruct the competing party
4 Defying the Courts- Didn't saint joe defy the supreme's, didn't the swell guy defy several courts. I know you will say thet is not true but
Attorney General (.gov)
Jan 26, 2016 — This is the second time in the past year that the Obama Administration has either defied or misled a federal court on major immigration issues
5. Political Retaliation, Harry Reid is a good example of obeying a president
6. Election Interference - What constitutes interference, is it the vote from your couch deemed election interference
7. Personal Gain - Only president that didn't have personal gain from his office is truman
8. Undermining The Constitution - The SCOTUS determine what is constitutional and I haven't heard the issue an opinion.
9. Treason- Nope, supported treason by individuals, No question.

Can you impeach a president because he is an out of control narcissist or should you. Should you go after an impeachment that will take two years to get when he will only be in office two years with limited power, other than to name tings after him.
The democrats have no reason to seek impeachment except retaliation because they will be in control so what do they gain.
All the names on the monuments can be changed back and the next president can have a huge dance in a new venue.

I just hope the democrats do something to shut down this senseless conflict that is penalizing the entire world. Take is mike away and he is just a spoiled child who few people like. Another problem is he has a better approval rating than congress so maybe Les is right, go communist or go home because capitalism is evil.

That "Failed Party of yours" that you refer to in less than 50 days will probably take back the House, and it looks like the Senate is in play in the Dems' favor at this point.

FYI, Anon, presidential scholars and historians who actually study presidents and their administrations consider Trump to be the worst of the worst presidents. Joe Biden had his faults, that's for sure, and he should have kept his promise to be a one-term president.

But what Joe Biden is and what Trump is NOT and never was is a decent human being. Biden made mistakes, but he was NEVER a hateful, indecent human being. And he was NOT a convicted felon & adjudicated sexual assaulter/rapist (judge's word), who partied for decades and decades, along with his wife, with America's most notorious child sex traffickers, Epstein & Maxwell, who trafficked children to rich and powerful people to rape.

That's what Trump is. A horrible human bein, a corrupt, malignant narcissist without a drop of human decency in his deteriorating carcass.

Now he's "saint joe" and not "sleepy joe". How creative Skud...

BTW... no one here ever considered Biden a saint, a perfect president, right on everything, not in decline due to his age and here's the difference between us libs and folks like you and the Mothership sailors, including -FJ.

We said all this and more, in real time. When he was still serving.

We're not the crowd that has publicly said we're not going to speak negatively so as to not give those darn MAGA folks ammunition to attack Biden.

We've been sober about our views towards him and his time as president and we've been public with those views as well.

Sadly... you and your MAGA cronies chose another path,

According to presidential scholars and historians, who know more about these things than you or I, the following are the men whom they consider THE WORST presidents in our history in order of the worst to the least worst:

1. Republican President Warren G. Harding
2. Republican President Donald J. Trump
3. Republican President Richard M. Nixon
4. Republican President Ulysses S. Grant
5. Democratic President Andrew Johnson

This is the sort comment that astounds me:

skud: "I just hope the democrats do something to shut down this senseless conflict that is penalizing the entire world."

The Republicans are in charge of all levers of power, and yet YOU want the Democrats to do something? Do you not see the implication of your statement? According to what I've been reading in the papers and online, the world, not just our country, is suffering from Trump's incompetence and stupidity. I don't know if the coming mid-terms will change that, because this country voted for a stupid and incompetent Trump TWICE.

Nixon wasn't a bad president but he was very flawed and Grant served right after the civil war so it is really hard to judge him fairly, although the drinking seemed to rule his life.

Yes trump is in charge but for republican politicians to bash him is asking a lot because they perceive he still has power. He may not have power but he does have a loud voice and a wicked tongue so he is still a threat. As to you second sentence "according to what I've been reading, that is what I said but your welcome to plagiarize.
I will fully admit that the republicans blew it by voting him in twice but again that is what happens when the options are horrible, trump and poor boy vs cruella and clown, not a big choice.

The democrats are better at cutting their mistakes. Carter lost big time and even democrats voted against him and biden is still getting up from the curb where he was thrown.

Dave, He was sleepy while he was in now he has been elevated to saint status by many. Biden was great until the debates showed where he was mentally and then the democrats served him up for the slaughter. If it wasn't for trump what would the democrats have to talk about. Turning the country to socialism or maybe lets raise taxes or perhaps and open border is a good thing.
Face it, trump is the best thing that could happen to the DNC/DSA.

Shaw Kenawe said...

It’s not hard to judge Grant. Although he himself was an honest man, he allowed people around him in his administration to engage in dishonesty. He turned what is known as a blind eye to their corruption. It had nothing to do with his drinking.

The two women who ran against Trump were eminently qualified for the presidency. Apparently your prejudice against their party affiliation has blinded you to the fact that they were indeed qualified. Again, the people who voted for a stupid and incompetent man, Trump, were the same people who did not see that both Hilary and Kamala were qualified for the presidency. I don’t have to explain to you the implication of that.

Joe Biden was never as sleepy and caught on video sleeping through cabinet meetings and at a 911 memorial! Trump is much worse as his early stages of dementia.

And the Democrats talk about Trump because he’s the one doing all the damage to this country! Should we ignore what he’s doing? He’s threatened to stop trading with the EU because Canada has decided to be an associate partner with the EU! Trump is nothing but an incompetent little toddler. We deserve what Canada is serving up to us and leaving us in the dust because, again, we elected a stupid and incompetent man twice!

Les Carpenter said...

Some might allege that the nation who elected a stupid and incompetent "man" twice is indicative of the nation's stupidity.

Who can blame them if they do?
