About that handshake that certain people are having the vapors over...

a little perspective is in order.

But don't expect that from the POHers!*

*Professional Obama Haters.

They are so very, very silly.

HERE'S WHY.

h/t to BBIdaho on Rational Nation's blog

Oh, and this is why, as well:

Margaret Thatcher shaking hands with Robert Mugabe.

OMG!

LOL!

But this IS real:

Given that Fidel is extremely ill and his brother will likely be heading the government very soon if he is not de facto head now, I can see why the right feels the best thing for Obama to have done would have been to cold cock Raoul.

Or maybe they haven't thought this through.

Shaw, is that photo of Ted and Fidel legit?

No. It's a very good photoshopped image, though.

I left this link for you in the thread below this post.

The ladies of the North End.

The second one in from the left is a neighbor, and a real sweetheart.

a handshake? Big Deal. Now...if there was a photo of Bill O'Reilly in bed with Lady GaGa...NOW...that would be something to get excited about.

Frankly, and it is just me, but I have always thought that the easiest way to end the Commie-nests in Cuba would be to end the trade embargo... just flood that little island with Iphones and xboxes and Chip-Ahoy cookies and the deal is done.

Only in the deranged right imagination is it a bad thing to be polite in mixed company...

Nixon shook hands with Fidel, Brezhnev, Mao and more, all during the Cold War...

Carter and Ford with Brezhnev and Kennedy with Khrushchev...

Truman of course, along with Churchill, shook hands with Josef Stalin...

And somehow President Obama is undermining democracy and giving aid and comfort to the enemy...

And people wonder why we just dismiss many on the right as simpletons.

There are legit issues they could raise, but they choose to focus on sand box games...

Epic fail...

Dave, I read what the commenters over at Geeeez's blog wrote about you. They are beneath contempt and don't deserve your attention.

Rude is too mild a word to describe their behavior. You're not going to get through to people who have cement in their heads and are determined to stay in their little, fact-free and hate-filled universe.

You are always reasonable and polite whenever you join a conversation, and they're always beastly rotten to you.

They're the same to Ducky, but for some reason he's been around those blogs for years, and accepts their contempt.

It's a puzzlement.

"It's a puzzlement"

This will explain it:

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

The people who attack you and Dave fall into the latter category.

Puzzlement over.

The reason neither Obama nor Biden went to Thatcher's funeral is because the British government did not declare her funeral A STATE EVENT! That was the UK's call.

And for good reason - the Brits HATED her, and sang "Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead" during her funeral!

Thatcher was no foe of apartheid and like Reagan spearheaded a great disparity of wealth & income in her country. Making the poor poorer while enriching the few, the rich, and the corporate is not patriotic. Supporting repressive governments such as South Africa in the 1980's because they were "anti-communist" with a look-the-other-way policy of "constructive engagement" is not worthy of honor.

"The Usual Suspects", yeah a pretty suspicious looking group, Shaw.
Obviously not taken at the Prado.

Why do I prowl the mothership of right wing blogs? I don't know.
Maybe because I have this perverse need to understand their world view.
It seems to be a primitive Calvinism but there must be more to it.

okjimm: "if there was a photo of Bill O'Reilly in bed with Lady GaGa"

A wild publicity stunt mis-interpreted: that was Gaga wearing O'Reilly as clothing.

KS said: "And for good reason - the Brits HATED her, and sang "Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead" during her funeral!"

Some did, some did not:

Opinion on Margaret Thatcher remains divided after her death, poll finds. 50% liked her, 34% didn't, the rest indifferent.

Obama's poll numbers are objectively somewhat worse than this. Would you summarize it by saying how the US hates Obama, even though the dislike here over him is stronger than the dislike of Thatcher over there? Of course not, you aren't consistent. The "side" or party matters to you, at least in this instance, not facts.

Shaw Kenawe said...

For the record, I did not say Geeeez is beneath contempt, but the commenters at that blog who trash Dave Miller, one of the nicest people in the blogsphere, are. There's no reason to do that. They can address his ideas and leave it at that, but just recently they called him an a**hole for politely stating his opinion. That, IMO, is beneath contempt.

dmarks, polls are snapshots of a certain period in a politician's term. At one point in Ronald Reagan's term, his poll numbers were at 35% approval. But once out of office that was decidedly different--he's considered one of this country's most popular president.

It's too soon to say anything like that about Mr. Obama.

Years after Margaret Thatcher's term as P.M., the country is STILL very much divided on her. She did not gain in popularity as her term in office ended or after she left office.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ducky, "the usual suspects" was taken in front of the fire station on Hanover Street. The ladies congregate there in good weather for "chiacchierone."

I read your intent quite clearly, and can't imagine interepreting anything else out of this. And I support your assessment of Dave, and am glad to see him in more blogs than I used to see him in.

About the polls, Shaw, K.S. was just engaging in careless, blindly partisan, ultimately non-factual agitprop. Both countries are roughly evenly divided on the leaders discussed, and as surely as you will find mean ghouls who sing happily of Thatcher's death, you will find such to sing of Obama's demise several decades from now. The same sort of people in both groups.

Duck, I'm like you... I go to try and understand the other side.

Whenever I am tempted to think the GOP, or conservatives are starting to come around, they reorient me.

I will admit to having a certain admiration for the Constitutional Insurgent. He has a unique viewpoint that does not get into the lather with folks.

KP... Merry Christmas... I know it's early, but you can be scarce...

Given O'Reilly's scandals, and Gaga's clothing, it isn't that far fetched :)

We need to normalize relations with Cuba because there is no reason not to and I could buy Cuban Cigars legally.

The Brits didn't hate the iron lady, some did but that can be said of any leader. There are some who think obama is totally incompetent, can you imagine that.

You'll be happy to know that Obamacare is turning heads. My company health carrier dropped us today because our coverage had limits and meeting obamacare guidelines is far to costly for a small company. Oh well like obama says, it is just a small business and I didn't build it. Obama 20 middle class 0.

For my part, I sincerely thought we could have a dialog with these folks. But whenever I visited their blogs, all I got was mockery, name-calling, and insults. I get that even when I'm NOT there.

Some of their crazies come here, copy my posts and comments and paste them on those blogs. And then there are the knuckle-draggers like Radical Redneck who impersonated me, and stole my name and avatar, and he does the same to other liberal commenters.

Their level of discourse is about the same as a barking herd of hyenas, but without the charm.

They populate those rightwing blogs, depositing boiler-plate comments they copy and paste from other internet sites.

Sadly, there's no reason to try anymore. They're an unhappy, malconted group of whiners who see themselves as victims and who see anyone who does not think like them as a Communist/Nazi/Marxist/Muslim/Libtard.

Who needs it? Let them wallow in their ideological mud bath.

Les Carpenter said...

"For my part I sincerely thought we could have a dialog with those folks."

You can with some. By "those folks" I assume you mean the more fringe rightwing. Yep, you're right, it won't happen. I'm definately conservatve compared to the majority in this forum and the toons even savage me at times. I just laugh and and give it back.

Anyway it is unfortunate because eventually the nation will pay a price it shouldn't have. It is easy to be an ideologue. It is much more difficult to work in good faith to find WORKABLE solutions. It takes compromise sometimes when compromise rubs you the wrong way.

My two cents, whatever it may be worth.

It is photo-shopped. The original picture is of Fidel Castro and Nong Duc Manh. It was flipped horizontally and Cruz's face was pasted on. Besides, Cruz parts his hair, and wears a ring on each hand.

Indeed. For all their complaining about welfare cheats, moochers, and the nanny state, these folks are themselves on the margins of society - refusing to accept responsibility for their own failings in life. Consider this definition of reaction formation: When a person cannot face life's wounds or their own failings, their tendency is to project their ugly bits onto others, thus absolving themselves of all responsibility. Hence the constant drumbeat of anger, vituperation and delusional thinking heaped upon imagined enemies.

Collectively, they act as a cult in search of mutual validation. That's all they have going for themselves - nothing more – and there is nothing anyone can say to them.

Notwithstanding their use of defense mechanisms raised to the level of social pathology, I can’t imagine the Always Hyper-Vigilant Vigilante surviving without Medicare, or Fishe Stinke pulsing pizzicato without a Social Security check.

It's part Cruz' tribute to Liberace. Or Sauron. I'm not sure which.

Anon (December 13, 2013 at 10:07 AM),

Confirmed. I too have noticed ugly and bigoted commentary inside The Cult.

One blogger, who I call Wayward Loon or ‘Waylon’ for short, makes frequent reference to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an anti-Semitic forgery of unknown origin and the great-grand daddy of all conspiracy theories. Of course, it only seems natural that purveyors of contemporary conspiracy theories would embrace this document as a model for appealing to a wider audience of fellow loons.

The Protocols were invoked by the Nazis to persecute the Jews and justify the Holocaust – and the same fraudulent missive often quoted on American radio by the infamous Nazi sympathizer, Father Coughlin.

Please note: Cultists often use the words ‘Communist,’ Marxist,’ ‘Progressive’ and ‘Jew’ interchangeably, preferring use of the former words as a cover to avoid accusations of being called an anti-Semite. But make no mistake: The Cult is anti-Semitic to the core …

… and racist too. Wayward Loon is a frequent commenter at the weblog of Fishe Stinke, who said some months ago (link October 15, 2013 at 8:39 AM)):

UGOTIT!

Thanks to the Immigration Act of 1965 -- a deliberate ploy designed to gain permanent incumbency for the Marxicrats [notice the standby for that dreaded J-word] -- we've been plagued with the ominous guarantee of a non-white majority in the near future.

This country was conceived, designed and developed by WHITE, PROTESTANT CHRISTIAN MEN and their wives ;-) [my bold].

As long as we stuck to THEIR concepts and abided by THER ideals, we did very well. Once the "Progressives" won a large share of public confidence, we've been plunged into incessant turmoil, and a long series of costly battles, and an enormous increase in Self-Pity along with an increasingly gasping "Entitlement Mentality." Coincidentally, the national IQ has been dropping like a stone ever since
.”

Yet, according to the twisted logic of The Cult, racism is somehow not akin to white supremacy. Go figure!

Conversing with hardcore bigots is a fool’s mission, and there is a huge difference between ‘partisan outreach’ versus ‘reckless enabling.’
