Rightwing Benghazi Nightmare Comes True

President Obama Announces Capture of One of the Leaders of the Benghazi Attack.

Cranial Explosions All Over Wingnuttia

The Washington Post:

U.S. Special Operations forces captured one of the suspected ringleaders of the terrorist attacks in Benghazi in a secret raid in Libya over the weekend, the first time one of the accused perpetrators of the 2012 assault has been apprehended, according to U.S. officials. The officials said Ahmed Abu Khattala was captured near Benghazi by American troops, working alongside the FBI, following months of planning, and was now in U.S. custody "in a secure location outside Libya."

The officials said there were no casualties in the operation, and that all U.S. personnel involved have safely left Libya.

Last year, the U.S. Attorney in the District filed charges against Abu Khattala and at least a dozen others in connection with the Benghazi attacks. None besides Abu Khattala — who is expected to be arraigned in Washington — has been apprehended. Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity about the still-secret operation, would not say where Abu Khattala was being held. They said he was “en route” to the United States but would not say when he was expected to arrive.

MORE:

Last month, Sen. John McCain released a statement with his sidekick Sens. Kelly Ayotte and Lindsey Graham accusing the Obama administration of sitting on its hands while letting Benghazi suspect Ahmed abu Khatallah roam freely. "Since we know where Ahmed abu Khattala is," they asked, "why hasn’t he been detained?"

But he has been detained.

Now let's sit back and listen to the nutters tell us how this is another Obama failure. Anything this president accomplishes sends these folks into paroxysms of delirium while shooting nails of mass destruction out of their eyeballs.

Anytime Mr. Obama catches a terrorist, the wingnuts run around telling themselves that Dick Cheney should get the credit because BENGHAZI! And oh yes, IT'S A DISTRACTION!

"This is easily Obama’s biggest ruse since that time he killed bin Laden to distract from his birth certificate."

And isn't this exactly what a Kenyan post-colonialist would do -- put Benghazi up front and center so as to distract from Benghazi?

They are a source of never-ending amusement.  More entertaining than a sack full of squirrels.

Oh, wait...

The only way this was a planned diversion is if obama knew he would have so many issues over a year ago, which I doubt.

Good for him not letting up and I hope we get the rest.
The news reported they are going to have a trial. Wonder where that will take place because I will make plans to stay far away.

Peanuts, popcorn, and crackerjacks.

Oh, and beer, plenty of it!

It's better than Barnum and Bailey's.

Did I spell that right?

Time for a beer and FOX, cause you know, FOX goes better with beer.

HufPo is reporting that the guy said the reason for the attack was the anti-Muslim video.

The strategy seems to be to shift to questioning the timing of the arrest.

My prediction is that it dries up and they all put their fingers in their ears and start screaming IRS,IRS,IRS.

Well Skud, people who post on another site you frequent, and where Ducky and I are not allowed to comment are already claiming exactly that. Interesting isn't it?

shaw I just want you to know that I've copied and pasted some of what you wrote into a conservative blog so that the readers can see what you've been reporting.

They really lap up anything I write there and think I'm "one of theirs."

Ha! What fools!

More here from Andrew Sullivan:

"I just turned on Fox News and heard one commentator say “We all have questions about the timing” of the arrest, and another chimed in to say, “You have the former Secretary of State who is in the middle of a high-profile book tour, and I think this is convenient for her to shift the talking points from some of the things she’s been discussing.” If you aren’t a regular Fox viewer, you’d react to that by saying, “Are these people insane?” But if you are a Fox viewer, it makes perfect sense. Because you’ve been hearing for almost two years that Benghazi isn’t a story about an attack on an American consulate, it’s a story about the Obama administration’s cover-ups and lies and betrayal."

Morrissey scrambles for something disparaging to say:

"So yes, this is a win for the US, but it’s still going to raise questions about how much effort the US put into capturing Khattala until now. At the time of Calderone’s piece, the White House insisted that they couldn’t act without destabilizing the government in Tripoli. What’s changed since then? Last week, incoming PM Ahmad Maiteeq offered his resignation after a court ruled his election was unconstitutional and current PM Abdullah Al Thani refused to recognize his legitimacy. This hardly seems like a propitious time for a Special Forces raid if the previous delays were taken to promote stability."

Dave, you're also on the bad boy list? Boy, that was a purge. I've always admired your ability to stay composed in that environment.

What final dawned on me about z is that she seems to believe that if only people would read her blog and listen to Fox to get "both sides" they would immediately adopt a fringe right stance and demand impeachment.
It's a very dangerous type of faith, devoid of doubt. A cadre of true believers screaming about Alinsky. Sadly ironic.

I still predict they will have to let go of Benghazi and switch issues.

Anything this president does is subject to paranoia and second guessing on everything.

This makes them look like jack-off idiots.

Disgusting people that I have to share this planet with: Dick and Liz Cheney. Haven't they killed enough people with their rotten ideas on bringing democracy to the hellhole Iraq?

Duck: "Dave, you're also on the bad boy list? Boy, that was a purge. I've always admired your ability to stay composed in that environment."

Interesting, eh? I'd read some of their commenters criticize my blog for having comment moderation, but I do publish conservative comments, as long as they don't attack other commenters.

Apparently Z and her syncophants couldn't take any comments that interfere with their world view that's all hate Obama all the time. They are now officially in a silly little echo chamber, which will only make them more insular than they already are.

Most blogs fall the same way but I will give you credit, you do allow dissent which keeps a blog lively.

I always enjoy reading Dave and Duck's opinions and disagree not allowing them to post. They are seldom correct but at least their opinions are thought out.

The problem with all the same mindset blogs is it gets to be a cheering section instead of adiscussion.

That's cute.

It's usually a matter of opinion. For some facts are considered of little consequence and therefore discounted or discarded entirely.

When faith based reasoning trumps fact, data, and science based reasoning we are indeed in descent.

Dave Miller said...

Skud, we might add, while there may always be some mocking, we don't call you an idiot, evil, conservaturd, or any other names meant to curtail discussion.

Dave Miller said...

RN, let me make an observation... The term faith based reasoning always seems to imply a negative.

There are plenty of us, who are faith based, that do not adhere to a strict fundamentalist based US Gospel.

Just sayin...

skudrunner said...

RN
Faith based reasoning is the foundation of our society and even atheists practice it they just don't recognize it as faith based. Do not kill, treat others as you want to be treated, don't chase you neighbor no matter how hot she is.

All of those are morals most civilized people live by. All decisions based on faith is a different concept and leads people to make irrational decisions based on what someone else believes.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"...even atheists practice it they just don't recognize it as faith based."

Can you give us an example of faith=based reasoning you say atheists practice.

An atheist is someone who has no belief in gods.

How is having no belief faith-based?

skudrunner said...

Do you believe in treating everyone like you want to be treated?
Do you believe in not committing adultery?
Do you believe in not stealing?
Do you respect your parents?

These are faith based beliefs and you don't have to believe in god to hold these beliefs.

On the other side are those who use faith to govern their lives and as an excuse for their actions.

I think skudrunner is assuming all ethics are faith-based. An incorrect assumption, of course.

Shaw Kenawe said...

That's not "reasoning," skud. You're positing questions.

BTW, research has shown that monkeys and primates present empathetic and ethical behavior toward each other.

So an interesting question is, since we share a common ancestor with the great apes, could it be that perhaps our brains were biologically evolved to behave ethically and morally toward each other and that we humans assigned that inherent moral behavior to gods instead of our innate nature?

And yes, we also have the other side of the coin of ethical behavior toward each other. I don't believe in devils, but I do believe we make choices to act ethically and unethically.

To philosophical for me. I am not religious because I think organized religion is nothing but tax exempt big business. We do need to remove their tax exempt status and deductible part on any donation.

Like charities, if you support it you should do that because of belief not because it is tax deductible.

Oh. My. Dog! We agree on something!

Dave, a good point. You are correct, there are many who believe in a supreme spiritual being who are reasonable, logical, and really good people. So I should have clarified. Yeah, it is the fundamentalist, "fire breathing", anti science types I am talking about.

Thank you for the opportunity to clarify.

Yupperz...now I am an agnostic/athiest/Bokononist/pagan.....like to keep my options open, see. After my apartment burned the first person to help was the Congregationalist minister...food,clothes and cash...and I have never gone to service there..my kids do. Help, no questions asked. Another minister I knew respected my views.....we talked beer, not god.

and many many others. I think 50# of Christians work really hard to give the other half a bad name.
