The Senator With The Snowball

From Karoli @Crooks and Liars:

This is just too awesome not to publish in its entirety.  Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) enlightens the Republican anti-science, grandstanding "Senator With A Snowball" from Oklahoma, James Inhofe:

After Senator James Inhofe trolled the entire Senate with his snowball on Thursday, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse stepped up to the mic with his fact snowplow to clear away the mess.

So much win. Here's the transcript:

WHITEHOUSE: I'd just like to complete my remarks with regard to the Senator from Oklahoma and his snowball. I'd like to ask unanimous consent that I show the Earth Now website on the iPad device that I have. And if you go to Earth Now it's actually quite easy to load, and you can see how that polar vortex measurably brings the cold air down to New England where we are right now.

And this is produced by NASA. These are pretty serious people. So you can believe NASA and you can believe what their satellites measure on the planet, or you can believe the Senator With The Snowball.

The United States Navy takes this very seriously, to the point where Admiral Locklear, who is the head of the Pacific Command, has said that climate change is the biggest threat that we face in the Pacific. He's a career miilitary officer and he's deadly serious. You can either believe the United States Navy, or you can believe the Senator With The Snowball.

The religious and faith groups are very clear on this, by and large. I would particularly salute the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which has made a very, very clear and strong statements and we are going to hear more from Pope Francis about this when he releases his encyclical and when he speaks to the Joint Session of Congress on September 24th. And I think that it will be quite clear that you can believe the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Pope Francis, or you can believe the Senator With The Snowball.

In corporate America, there is an immense array of major, significant, intelligent, responsible corporations who are very clear that climate change is real. Companies like Coke and Pepsi. Companies like Ford and GM. And Caterpillar. Companies like Wal-Mart and Target. Companies like VF Industries, which makes a wide array of clothing products, and Nike. Companies like Mars and Nestle. So, we have our choice. We can believe Coke and Pepsi and Ford and GM and Caterpillar and Wal-Mart and Target and VF Industries and Nike and Mars and Nestle, or we can believe the Senator With The Snowball.

Every major American scientific society has put itself on record -- many of them a decade ago -- that climate change is deadly real. They measure it, they see it, they know why it happens, the predictions correlate with what we see as they increasingly come true. And the fundamental principle is that it is derived from carbon pollution, which comes from burning fossil fuels, are beyond legitimate dispute to the point where every leading scientific organization on the planet calls them unequivocal.

So, you can believe every major American scientific society, or you can believe the Senator With The Snowball.

I suspect that the Senator With The Snowball believes that 5 is greater than 15.

I have an old high school buddy that lives in Oklahoma. He's a raving shithead also. A big difference between these conservative wackos and those leaning left is while we embrace the knowledge we can gain from those smarter than we are, the right is hateful and suspicious of intelligence. Had Senator Snowball had his way the freezer which preserved his snowball till he could get it out for his speech would never have been invented.

Ducky's here said...

And 30% of the population will elect Senators with snowballs.
Apparently not enough to push the pipeline through so maybe there's hope.

We have a lot of snow right now and it has been a brutually cold winter in the NE. So doesn't that mean it is global cooling? Lets ask the Senator With the Snowball.

.....or you can believe the Senator With The Snowball

.....for brains.

Jerry, the senator with snowballs for brains? Probably.

Joe! Truth 101 is always welcome here. Haven't seen you around, but I haven't seen much of anything because the snow is blocking my view. Not all conservatives deny climate change/global warming, as you know. Only the ones who don't understand science, and therefore, are afraid of it.

Ducky Could it be that Inhofe really knows the science of climate change but needs to keep his anti-science constituents feeling secure in their ignorance?

RN, today is the first day of March. The sun will win--eventually.

Infidel753, Inhofe is a cagey senator who's playing his base for suckers.

It seems to me that anybody who believes in the Bible would demand that we act as good stewards in taking care of our planet.

So why do we have the stereotype of right wing Christians fighting against environmentalism?

Maybe it's because the most visible "Christian" leaders in the right seem to reject most all of the values that the scriptures show Jesus Christ to have.

Jerry Critter said...

RN, let's hope you are right, and it is the sun that wins and not the son.

Howard, the reason many on the Christian right eschew an environmental stance is because they do not see caring for the environment as a biblical value.

Dominion over, in their interpretation, and caring for God's creation, are not where Christians should be spending their time.

Especially in light of the belief that one day it shall all pass away anyways.

Shaw... the WAPO had an interesting editorial on Senator Snowball today...

Truth 101... welcome to the club... the one where your comments here go viral on some of the smuttier more conservative blogs...

Take it as badge of honor from the group that couldn't diagram a sentence if their lives depended on it.

I gotta go to some of these smutty blogs. I feel left out cause they rarely bothered me at T101 and never at MadMike's America. They fear Shaw more than me. For good reason I add. Smart lady.

Truth... we could start a parody of these blogs if those blogs themselves weren't a living parody already.

Someone tried to copy and paste my comments here and post them, got m,y name wrong and then included non-existent typos...

Totally comical. I won;t comment at them because I'm no match for the language they employ, but you'd be a good hammer.

Of course, your truth will never be understood...

Good luck...
