President Dotard threatens to destroy Iran's cultural heritage sites

President Dotard actually tweeted out his threat to break international and U.S. law this weekend.

Destroying cultural heritage sites is a war crime

"President Trump threatened to destroy 52 Iranian sites — “some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture” — on Twitter on Saturday. This may seem like a small issue in the midst of an international crisis, but, as others have noted, his tweet amounts to an announcement of an intention to commit war crimes.

A part of the Hague Convention of 1907, signed over a century ago, says that “all necessary steps must be taken” to spare “buildings dedicated to religion, art, science, or charitable purposes, historic monuments, hospitals, and places where the sick and wounded are collected.” Similarly, the Geneva Convention Protocol I, signed in 1949 and amended in 1977, renders unlawful “any acts of hostility directed against the historic monuments, works of art or places of worship which constitute the cultural or spiritual heritage of peoples.”

Federal law in the United States says that violating these international conventions would constitute a war crime. Anyone who violates them could be imprisoned or, if death results from their actions, be sentenced to death. Members of the Trump administration should be on notice that they can be held liable under these provisions.

Trump’s threatened actions would be morally reprehensible even outside the law, because they would destroy centuries-old places of profound importance not just to Iranians, but to all of human civilization."

Mar-a-Lago Guests and Israel Had More Prior Knowledge

of Strike on Soleimani Than Democratic Leaders

Trump was dropping hints to guests at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida days before the attack, telling them to expect something “big” very “soon” in Iraq

"Days ahead of the assassination of high-ranking Iranian military and intelligence official Gen. Qasem Soleimani, President Donald Trump was dropping hints to guests at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, telling them to expect something “big” very “soon” in Iraq. “He kept saying, ‘You’ll see,’” a source who was at Mar-a-Lago told The Daily Beast.

The Trump administration also forewarned Israel of the intended killing. “Our assessment is that the United States informed Israel about this operation in Iraq, apparently a few days ago,” said journalist and commentator Barak Ravid, who has sources within Israel’s government, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Another source, an Israeli army officer, told the paper that the attack “did not come as a surprise.” Meanwhile, contrary to tradition, Trump neglected to inform top Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer ahead of the strike."

Flashback: Trump Warned That a ‘Weak’ and ‘Ineffective’ President Would Start a War With Iran to ‘Get Re-elected’

The President harms his cause when he talks about hitting Iran's cultural sites. Attacking a cultural site is a violation of the Law of Armed Conflict, of which we are a signatory, and all military personnel receive training on. A military person can be court martialed for violating it, and no military planners would plan such an attack.

Such statements from the president are stupid and inflammatory and mitigate against his case.

The Iranian people are watching and waiting, and they mark a clear distinction between their Persian culture and the rotten regime persecuting them.

Such statements by the president drive the Iranian people into the arms of the hated regime, and give blabbering leftwing commentators a chance to look smart and scold the president.

We are trying to build a wall to seal off the wrong country. Build a wall around Iran and Iraq and let they go after each other.
We should abort all their unborn children and the left would be thrilled but going after a mass murdering terrorist is terrible and promising self defense if just horrible. There is nothing to be gained from attacking their cultural sites unless they are stockpiling nucs in them.
This could have ll been avoided by just giving them several billion and supplying them with nuclear capabilities, after all look how well it worked for barry.

Shaw you are REALLY going nuts. You can't even celebrate, and be happy when one of the world's worst Killers is killed! What's wrong with you? Are you progressives that obsessive that they you can't even be happy when our side is in the right. And why do you constantly insult the people who come here to ready and post their opinions?

The Trumpanzees on the right are celebrating going to war like a bunch of drunk baboons. I wonder how many of their kids will be putting on the uniform to go fight another war in the M.E.?

tRump has spent 241 days at his own golf club (charging the American people for his protection and at his own place and he gets the profits!) He's pissed away more taxpayer money than we will ever recoup. The economy isn't enough to keep him in the office where he squats. The money being spent on his necessary impeachment is pennies compared to what tRump's pilfered.

We haven't finished paying for the war in Iraq, how's President Dotard going to pay for the war with Iran? Will he cut taxes on the rich 1% again, and then send poor people's kids to die for his incompetence?

Sure, Suleimani was a bastard. We've propped up murderous bastards all over the world. Suleimani just an excuse for tRump to have his shitty war to take focus off of his impeachment and his dirty crimes. May tRump and his supporters rot in Hell!

What do you know about America's history with Iran? I suspect you know nothing.

We have a "POTUS" who doesn't like to read so has little to base his international judgements on other than his self interest, pumped up pride, and ego protection. It is hard to see a situation from within the limited confines of one side of that situation. I wish Trumpers would study history. "America’s support for, and then eventual abandonment of, the Shah helped shape the 1979 revolution." Just google 'Shah of Iran and American support for Shah of Iran,' and it might help widen your perspective.

Yes, this Suleimeni was a terrorist from our viewpoint, and a protector of the homeland from the Iranian viewpoint because he did protect their homeland. And if he had been killed on the battlefield rather than by assassination while visiting Iraq, we'd be better off for it.

Now Iran is united once again, against America.

What's wrong with YOU? Nothing in the Middle East is simple, and your ignorance has made a bad situaltion worse by electing a functioning illiterate who knows and cares nothing about the history of America and Iran.

Shaw you can also suggest to your troll that they google Iranian Air Flight 655. And then ask them to come back and discuss.

No one's hands are clean in the M.E., including ours.

And So True
Trump stands with and for the US, Obama feels the US is not special and stands with the Muslims, his own words. Some don’t see a difference.

How do we decide which people and things to bomb are OK and which ones are crimes?

Obviously, the powers that be don't mind "regular" people and homes being bombed. But when powerful people get targetted, it's assassination. And when stuff they like get targetted, those are war crimes.

Threatening to destroy cultural sites of a country is the sign of a deranged madman. I can't believe a US president would dare say something like that. It goes against all the principles America stands for.

Nothing will motivate the people of Iran to fight the US more than the threat of destruction to their cultural sites.

If we go to war with Iran, this is a Republican war. They own it. When are decent Republicans going to stand up and do the right thing?

Les Carpenter said...

I've been asking myself that every day for two years. I've concluded that the answer is... decent republicans are few and far between as well as relics of a long departed past..

RN, These days you're far more likely to stumble upon a 3 legged, tap dancing unicorn than you are a decent Repub. There used to be lots of them. Sadly, I'm sure they're extinct.
