Thoughts on a Monday afternoon

 Update -- Tuesday, 2/8/22

Wait! Is this a lie or the truth? It's difficult to know, since this is FAUX NOOZ.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade says Trump's claim he won Arizona in 2020 is an 'outright lie'

***********************

Democrats have spent the last year working to restore America's economy, rebuilding our infrastructure, protecting our elections, combating the Coronavirus, and restoring the rule of law.

Republicans have spent the last year working to protect gendered potato heads, whining about wearing a mask, assisting the spread of the Coronavirus, dismantling independent elections, and abolishing the rule of law.

In other related political news, the conservative National Review magazine published an editorial last weekend calling the RNC's censure of Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger "morally repellent and politically self-destructive."

The same editorial goes on to call the censure document wording "political malpractice of the highest order coming from people whose entire job is politics," and suggests the RNC take a lesson from former VP Mike Pence.

"The action of the mob on January 6 was an indefensible disgrace. It is deserving of both political accountability and criminal prosecution. Aspects of it are also fit subjects for a properly conducted congressional inquiry. It is wrong to minimize or excuse what happened that day."

"The RNC bought the entire party a bounty of bad headlines and easy attack ads. It did so for no good purpose, and its action will only encourage those who see riots as legitimate political discourse. A mistake, and worse, a shame."

Thoughts on a Monday Afternoon?

The SCOTUS is looking like it will fulfill the destiny it inherited after McConnell blocked an Obama nominee and Trump was elected. Today they threw shade on a lower court ruling that Alabama, one of the most racist states in America, had drawn congressional districts so as to dilute the voting power of African Americans.

Mundane laws, flouting norms, heck, even breaking laws as we've seen with the Trump Admin blatantly disregarded the Presidential Records Act... all of that I expected and knew in reality we'd survive.

From the moment Trump was elected back in November of 2016, today was the moment I feared. When we would no longer have a basically 4-4 split on the SCOTUS with a swing vote who was gettable by either side with a good argument.

As Sens. Manchin and Sinema crow about a need to protect the minority in the Senate, perhaps they might consider how to protect the majority in America. A majority that believes we should expand voter access to the polls, that abortion should be legal, safe and accessible, and with some limits and that we should have some sensible level of gun control to address our ongoing scourge of violence.

Today is the day I feared, and sadly, I think tomorrow will be worse.

What other democratic country lets a minority of 40% of the people control the decisions and actions of the government?

What grade would you give the Democratic efforts?

Dave It's the tyranny of the minority. And Trumpublicans have made an art of it.

"The Republican National Committee, the official leadership of the GOP, has embraced unspeakable violence as 'legitimate discourse.' It’s an absurd euphemism — and it points to another one.

To call a person who endorses violence against the duly elected government a 'Republican' is itself Orwellian. More accurate words exist for such a person. One of them is 'fascist.'”--Dana Milbank

It's impossible to grade any group of people who are trying to do the work of democracy when the opposing party is anti-democracy and who thwart every effort of the party in power to move forward and solve our pressing problems.

Giving out grades under those conditions is futile.

Its been a long time coming. The seeds were sown, fertilized, watered and fed starting many many years ago. The final destruction of the "American Experiment" in democratic self rule will be by our own hand. And, it ain't gonna be pretty. Personality has won the day in the party of, ignorance, greed, racism, and mob mentality.

Good Luck America. Yer gonna f**king need it!

The cult will be very angered by this:

McConnell breaks with RNC: Jan. 6 'violent insurrection'

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticized the Republican National Committee (RNC) for its censure of Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and broke with their language on the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, calling it a “violent insurrection.”

“It was a violent insurrection with the purpose of trying to prevent a peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election. ... That’s what it was,” McConnell said.

Dave D. The Trump cult doesn't like to have anyone disagree with their adulation of Trump and their lies about J6.

I wonder why McConnell came out and said that now.

Sane Americans who are not in the cult saw with their own eyes that the J6 seditious insurrection was most definitely NOT "legitimate political discourse," as the idiots in the RNC claimed.

McConnell has been saying that since it happened, in fact, he blamed Trump for it since it happened.

That's too easy an out since Democrats have had majority since Biden took office.
