TELL ME AGAIN HOW THIS MAKES AMERICA GREAT

Why do these despicably sick people feel empowered enough to back up their hatred of the LGBTQ+ community by invoking the Trump administration's support?

And how is this different from fanatical Islam that demands the killing of infidels?

Can anyone answer that for me?

"Indiana church tells LGBTQ+ community to kill themselves—or they will face the death penalty under Trump. The church then doubled down after backlash: "They are supposed to be executed by the government."

Sermon titled "Pray the Gay Away" was given at "Men’s Preaching Night" by Stephen Falco at Sure Foundation Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The church continued to defend the preaching saying: "He’s only calling for the death penalty and suicide for the actual sodomites. The Bible teaches that those people are worthy of death."

(The Bible says to execute adulterers, too. In fact, that particular crime is explicitly mentioned 60+ times, while gay sex is mentioned - ambiguously - only a few times and never by Jesus. And there's a very famous adulterer in the WH, as well as heading up the DoD. Interesting isn't it, how selective these Evangelicals can be about condemning people to death according to the Bible.)

NOTE:  Most Christian churches that I know of do NOT advocate for this sort of violence against the LGBTQ+ community. But I live in Massachusetts, so I do not know how the Bible Belt deals with this subject. And I have read that certain state and federal legislators as well as Supreme Court justices want to revisit the Obergefell v. Hodges decision making same sex marriage legal.

This sort of violent rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community is something one would imagine coming from a primitive, ignorant society, not a technologically and educationally advanced country.

But here we are.

Apparently we're not as advanced as we think we are.

Now the bigoted Christian Nationalists and their bible inspired violent attitude is in the news?

I wonder if the FOTUS will call them good people. Perhaps sanction their violent attitude?

What's next? Witch burning parties?

Really...

Is a New Age Dark Age upon us in America? With the Christian Nationalist church leading the charge as it waves the ancient book of "divine wisdom"?

The energies of ignorance are now flowing freely in America. And the fountainhead of said ignorance sits in the Oval Office.

It won't be long until the Nat-C's embrace the pink triangle patch their Nazi mentors used for homosexuals. The yellow star would be their next step.

Authoritarian personalities cloak themselves in religion and call it "patriotism". Christian Nationalism, Israeli Zionism, and Muslim Jihadism all reveal the common rot at the core of organized religion.

Compassion and empathy? Hell, no. Power is their god. Dominance is their ideology. Cruelty is their sacrament.

Les, WeThePeople stand upon the same precipice of our ancestors, asking the same question, searching for the same answers.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

We can see legislating for bad behavior does nothing because once those who engage in bad behavior get into power they legalize everything they do. Their behavior is still bad, but at least it's now legal! (insert sad drum rim shot here). Yay us!!

Teaching stories are all over me today, specifically the challenges faced by Vulcans in the Star Trek show. Absolutely violent and would have killed themselves off if they hadn't learned to dominate their violent ways. The parallels are not lost on me, nor are the opportunities to do better than just shut off the violence within.

In the mental health community drugs are a very important part of keeping so many folks on a path of balance, of managing their symptoms rather than their symptoms creating havoc in their lives. It was suggested to me, many times, that I try the medicated way and my response time and again was no, for two reasons. A. I'm Medicaid which means the drug formulary changes as often as the wind in Casper, WY so if I find a drug combo that works that doesn't mean I get to stay on said combo and B. If I can't have the drugs to regulate me, how then do I cope?

Skills are what saved me and skills are what will save the USA and by extension the world. I learned that to deny my violent self, and oh baby, yeah, Ooofda! Not a pleasant place, my violent side. And I'm not alone in that our violence, the very thing that allowed humanity to survive when faced with so many predators, is deep inside us.

As you've stated before Les, Buddhism guides one to accept both the peaceful and the violent sides of themselves, and with skill, learn to live between in balance. That's the secret that will pull us away from the precipice because laws don't work. The USA is proving that every day.

Mental health skills, learning to live with ones ego and not give it the keys to the body, learning to be gentle with oneself and others, learning how to communicate... so many of the ills of humanity would be mitigated if everyone had at least basic mental health skills.

At least that's my thoughts. My resistance is to share the skills I've learned with those who read my words, and I write a lot of words on social media. Seems to be effective so far. Proof is in the pudding.

Hi Shaw - hope your goat time is rejuvenating. Every time I get massively frustrated with my body not doing what I want I think of you and goats and... well, happy thoughts are healing thoughts. I am grateful to and for you.

So, you asked some very good questions. Hope I have a few answers.

First - the filth spewed by the pastor in the story is no different than the clerics of Islam who spew the same thing. Siblings, amirite?

Second - Anti LGBTQIA+ folks have been around for decades (looking at you Tony Perkins/FRC) and their rhetoric hasn't changed in content. FOTUS admin has been busy checking off the boxes on their Project 2025 project agenda, so yeah, they are feeling their oats.

Third - History time: there are maybe two verses talking about men lying with men (guess lesbians were a-ok!) and double digits of verses talking about mixed fabrics, bacon, shellfish, but yeah, lets focus on the two vs. the many.

There is much discussion between biblical scholars concerning the original texts and how they were translated (peer reviewed, when we know better we do better, and context in ancient texts matters). I don't pretend to understand all of what they said but bottom line is the pertinent verse isn't men lying with men as one does with a woman but men lying with children. That was the issue and weird how one population was instantly demonized by those who knew better but had secrets and an abusive domineering personality.

Sodom wasn't destroyed for their homosexuality but for their inhospitable behavior, adultery, and violence. Nationalist Christians like the pastor in the clip like to claim it was the homosexuality but lets parse this out a second - which was included in the top ten aka 10 Commandments - adultery or homosexuality?

Oooohhhhh - number 7 - Thou shall not commit adultery. Bam.

It is of interest to me that their supposed lord and savior said NOTHING against the LGBTQIA+ community. Nothing. Perhaps if it was such a thing he would have included it somewhere in the parables or during the Sermon on the Mount but nope. Nada.

Oh, what am I saying? Facts don't matter to Nationalist Christians. They do as their priest class (NAR) tells them to do and not an original thought in the bunch. Honestly? Their rhetoric is tiring. All the prophecies uttered by Tony of what would happen when LGBTQIA+ marriage rights became reality never materialized. Well, Tony's house did get flooded so there is that, I guess.

It is interesting that there are those who spend their time working very hard to deny that which is. To wit: Constant change throughout the universe and ultimate impermanence of all compound phenomena.

IOW, working hard to keep things exactly as THEY desire and demand things change to stay the same.

Clearly, a new definition of Christianity is needed. But Jimmy Swaggart is struggling through purgatory.
