Rest In Peace, Jersey McJones

One of our blogging buddies, Jersey McJones, who commented here, has passed away.

I'm posting this poem by Dylan Thomas in memory of Jersey:

AND DEATH SHALL HAVE NO DOMINION

And death shall have no dominion.
Dead man naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

And death shall have no dominion.
Under the windings of the sea
They lying long shall not die windily;
Twisting on racks when sinews give way,
Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break;
Faith in their hands shall snap in two,
And the unicorn evils run them through;
Split all ends up they shan't crack;
And death shall have no dominion.

And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.

Jersey will be missed by all. He was truly a gem of a man.

Rest in peace Jersey.

Jersey was a good pal. I remember during the chaotically depressing republican primaries, he took me to task for having too much faith in the remnants of the republican party. I guess you were right, Jersey. We never should have trusted those guys. But there was nothing we could do. It was like a slow-motion train wreck, that last sickening second before impact that stretches in your memory. When you know your car is going to slam into someone turning left in front of you and you just can't do anything but jam the brakes and get ready to hit.

Looking through his archives, I see the election and its nightmarish reality of bad consequences spurred him into action when many others hung up their blogs. What's happening now? The EPA is trying to gut the Clean Water Act and at the same time seeking permission to dump frackwater into the Gulf of Mexico. Mammon is indeed a powerful master.

It's too bad he took down his ancient 2006 blog with the "Doo-wah Doobie, Marry-Ju-Wanna video. I would love to hear that today.

Jersey was always interesting to debate because he was rational most of the time.
He is entering a new phase and he will make a difference.
Nice eulogy FJ.

People have said (TAO, Willis Hart, Luke/Steve) that Jersey is/was a sockpuppet controlled by Rational Nation. I didn't believe it (reading his comments Jersey sounded like a real person and not a put on). I mention this because I can't help but wonder where this info (about Jersey's death) comes from. Not that I think Shaw was fooled into thinking someone who didn't exist "died". Although TOM (Luke's sockpuppet) also died from brain cancer. And (at the time) commenters on his blog (including Sue of "Hello Mr President") took what he said at face value (but what TOM said was revealed later to be a lie). Maybe I'm just paranoid after my experiences with the troll TOM/Luke. I am inclined to believe Shaw. Even if her post is LIGHT when it comes to details. Not that I think I'm ENTITLED to any. If Shaw says she knows what she posts here is factual, I'll take her word for it.

Dervish Sanders, my post is "light" because it is only recently that Jersey McJones commented here. I know through my contacts that JMJ was a real person and not anyone's sock puppet.

TOM/Luke/Steve have been trolls here for years and years. They/he are/is mentally unstable.

Just say something nice, Dervish.

A few years ago I looked at Jersey's blog. Left a comment, then checked back a few times to see if he responded or posted anything new. He never did. I figured he had abandoned his blog. I went back today and see that he restarted his blog as of January of this year. There are quite a few posts with numerous responses. I regret that I missed out. I see some posts there that I would like to have responded to. From what I've read elsewhere, Jersey was not 50 yet. Definitely taken too soon. My condolences to his family.

Oh my God! I had no idea Jersey McJones died. I had not heard from in ages but thought he was just busy.

I am a conservative Republican. Every day he would come on my blog and hammer me. Starting in 2007, he was a daily pain in the rump. Yet somehow, we liked each other. My only rules were no profanity and no personal attacks. He attacked my arguments within the rules.

Sometimes he drove me bonkers. Many of my conservative readers wanted me to ban him. I would tell them, "I CAN'T ban him." They'd tell me it was my blog, I could do whatever I wanted. I told them, "No. Conservative Republicans are all about rules. He obeys the rules. I can't ban him. If you have a problem with him, defeat his arguments."

Sometime 3 or 4 years ago, my blog got overwhelmed by spambots. The only way to stop it was to ban all comments. It was heartbreaking for me to do this, and I personally explained to Jersey that he was not the only one being banned. Everyone was. I lost touch with him after that, regrettably so.

We both loved football. He was a Jets fan. I am a Raiders fan. We were both loyal fans, despite this being a touch century for both of us. He actually was very encouraging when the Raiders showed improvement. I was hoping the Jets would win the AFC East again in his lifetime.

Despite being completely different from me, Jersey was with me from the very beginning. He was one of my very first readers and commenters.

I know he is in heaven driving a ton of people of all persuasions crazy. Jersey once said that he thought God was like Ed Schultz, but slightly different. Now Jersey is with them both.

Jersey, rest in peace you liberal pain the rump. I'm better off for having interacted with you.
