Hurricane Florence

I'm sorry for the folks in North Carolina who have troglodytes representing them in their state. They should have taken to heart what astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson said:

"The great thing about science is that it is real, whether you believe it or not."

Now the folks who have idiots in their state legislature will suffer the consequences of ignoring what is real.

From The Guardian:

In 2012, the state now in the path of Hurricane Florence reacted to a prediction by its Coastal Resources Commission that sea levels could rise by 39 inches over the next century by passing a law that banned policies based on such forecasts.

The legislation drew ridicule, including a mocking segment by comedian Stephen Colbert, who said: “If your science gives you a result you don’t like, pass a law saying the result is illegal. Problem solved.”

Now that the North Carolina faces Hurricane Florence, it is important to remember that the state banned the use of climate science in determining public policy. This has widespread implications for infrastructure, construction, recovery, etc.

Independent of the climate change deniers, I've often wondered of the wisdom of government continuing to bail out people who willfully and repeatedly build and rebuild in danger zones. Should we ever say "enough is enough" and if you choose to build in these areas, you're on your own?

Are the repeated rescues and bailouts a good use of taxpayer money for people in clear danger zones? For instance, certain parts of New Orleans, the outer banks of the Carolinas, etc.? Maybe it would be cheaper to pay to move folks and rebuild in a safer area.

Next step... Pass another law making it illegal to criticize all laws passed by said troglodyte legislatures.

Evangelicals and cons are an astonishing bunch indeed.

I agree with Dave's observation.

I would add that after a mandatory evacuation order has been given no rescuer, no matter how brave, should be sent out in the middle of such a huge storm to rescue those trapped in the storm area. They made their choice and no one should risk their lives to save them from their folly.

I neglected to mention I am in agreement with Dave as well. Choices (decisions) always have consequences. Good or bad consequence the decision rests with the individual(s). The responsibility for the decisions outcome rests with the individual.
