Those Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation

King was right then, he remains right today, and the truth he spoke will be truth through all time.

Until ignorance, hatred, and greed are eradicated (if that is possible) the suffering caused by racism and inequality will continue to keep our nation in the throes of mistrust, division, and violence.

Cons, take note.

The second quote is cute, but it wasn't true when he said it.

Anonymous @9:01 PM,

The Voting Rights Act of 1964 was filibustered. Fact.

Actually anon we will never end racism because it is politically advantages for both sides.

There is zero ethical, moral, or political advantage to be gained by engaging in racist behavoir or activities. But it is true that that is the story that racists tell themselves as they put on their Sunday best and hypocritically go to church and pray to the god they must believe is racist as well.

There is NO advantage to racism. In fact the exact opposite is true. But yes, I suppose there will always be ignorant racists that apparently so enjoy their ignorance they will hold on to it until death.
