Trump supporters play into anti-Semitic lies about George Soros.

While I didn’t contribute to Alvin Bragg’s campaign, I have supported many other reform-minded prosecutors. Anyone who wants to know why should read this article I wrote in .

And this particular blogger is among the worst -- shame on her for spreading lies:

DID EVERYBODY HEAR BRAGG SAYS HE’S NEVER SPOKEN TO SOROS? AND SOROS SAYS HE’S NEVER GIVEN MONEY TO HIM?
YUP………….AND WE ALL KNOW NOBODY EVER LIES, RIGHT? AND WE KNOW THAT SOROS’ SON AND HIS WIFE EACH GAVE BRAGG’S CAMPAIGN 10k AND WE KNOW THAT SOROS DONATED HUGE MONEY TO THE PAC SUPPORTING BRAGG, BUT “HE DID NOT GIVE MONEY TO HIM, EVER EVEN SPOKE TO HIM”

"Soros, a longtime supporter of Democratic campaigns, various liberal causes and prosecutors who favor criminal justice reform, has been a frequent target of antisemitic conspiracy theories painting the Jewish philanthropist as a puppetmaster behind various US and international events.

Soros did not make any direct contributions to Bragg’s 2021 election campaign, and a Soros spokesperson, Michael Vachon, told CNN last week that the two men have never once communicated in any way."

SOURCE:

"...Soros never directly funded Bragg, but instead contributed to a group that supported Bragg and other liberal candidates seeking to be prosecutors.

Moreover, the repeated mention of Soros plays into antisemitic conspiracy theories that Soros, a Hungarian American Holocaust survivor, is a wealthy puppet-master who works behind the scenes to manipulate elections and further his goals.

The Anti-Defamation League found in 2018 that Soros figures in a significant number of antisemitic tweets.

Bragg, who in 2021 narrowly won the Democratic primary against a much-better-funded candidate, would be the type of prosecutor favored by Soros. He never made a contribution to Bragg, though New York State election records show Soros’s son and daughter-in-law each contributed a little more than $10,000.

Soros’s Democracy PAC also made no contributions to Bragg.

In any case, there is no evidence Soros has influence over Bragg. “George has never met, spoken with or otherwise communicated with Alvin Bragg,” Vachon said. The Bragg adviser confirmed the two men have never met or communicated.

The incendiary focus on Soros raises more difficult questions. Given the tenuous connection between Soros and Bragg, it’s a dangerous game that plays into stereotypes of rich Jewish financiers secretly controlling events.

“Even if unintentional, politicians and pundits repeating these unsubstantiated conspiracies essentially validate the same hateful myths propagated by antisemites,” the ADL warns. “A person who promotes a Soros conspiracy theory may not intend to promulgate antisemitism. But Soros’ Jewish identity is so well-known that in many cases it is hard not to infer that meaning.”

For those who didn't read the links:

George Soros, like the brothers Koch, can support whomever they want. They are Americans.

I believe attacking Soros is anti Semitic. If you claim not to know or understand:

1.  That George Soros is Jewish; and/or
2.  That the anti Semitic trope that there are rich, Jewish puppeteers pulling governments strings is one of the oldest racist stereotypes in the history of the world, then I suggest you do some research before becoming a mindless mouthpiece of the haters.

Soros DID NOT FUND BRAGG DIRECTLY. HE GAVE MONEY TO A PAC THAT WAS RAISING MONEY FOR SEVERAL PROSECUTERS.

SOROS HAS NEVER EVEN MET BRAGG.

Well Shaw... the person you quoted is a card carrying member of the "I never believe anything from people with whom I disagree" and "I know there is no evidence but that doesn't make what I believe untrue" clubs.

Seriously, these folks want negatives proven. How can you do that???

It's like prove I didn't do it, but oh yeah, I won't accept any of your proof.

The post is gone. Maybe she had second thoughts about spreading anti-Semitic lies about George Soros?

What do Trumpers have against rich Americans giving money to political PACs and candidates they support? Republicans do it all the time. I've never read her or her pals talk about the Koch Brothers' supporting conservative candidates and conservative political PACs. That's why I believe there's an anti-Semitic aspect to going after Soros all the time.

As the article show, Soros has broken no laws and has done what rich conservatives do all the time.

I hate to say this, but one must be careful and subtle when supporting anyone who got his or her reputation publicly trashed. George Soros got reckless and got his reputation smeared. As much as I hate to say that, it's exactly what happened.

"and has done what rich conservatives do all the time."
And think they are the only ones that should be able to do it. Hypocrites galore.

Not at all Shaw... it's all in her comments. There's no guilt there. None. At. All.

Many wingnuts have adopted Soros as a kind of Satan figure, for some reason. He is the source of all evil, and anything that happens that they consider bad, he must somehow be behind it.

I even saw a discussion once that claimed Soros was a collaborator with the Nazis throughout World War II. I pointed out that he was only fourteen when the war ended. They didn't seem impressed.

If the conservatives and republicans would put 1/2 the effort into governing that they do creating boogeymen and conspiracy the country would be in much better shape methinks.

Cons and repubs are never impressed with truth these days. Just con hype and general BS.

Infidel... apparently there is something about Soros as a kid. In the camps he "aided and abetted" the Nazis by cleaning out the ovens.

As a kid, with a gun pointed at his head.
