General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."
This seems to me to the equivalent of electing JP Morgan, Pierre du Pont or John D Rockefeller.
Look, we've always elected scoundrels, to both Congress and the White House. Remember, while not illegal, many of our early presidents were not just slave owners, but fervent supporters of owning people, abusing them and profiting off their hard, uncompensated labor. It's inexcusable and immoral.
The Kennedy clan was no bunch of saints, Ike cheated on his wife, Nixon truly weaponized government, Clinton was... well you get the picture.
Perhaps what's different with Trump is that he refuses to play the game, refuses to "pretend" he's something he ain't. Is he a good man? Not at all. Is he, as a man, any worse than some of our other presidents?
Maybe, maybe not.
The focus of America should be on results and how he directs the government to treat the American people. On that, he should be judged and on that, hopefully he will.
If past as they say is prologue, independent of his penchant for immorality, Trump will be a disaster for America and where we stand today as he prepares to assume to the presidency.
Here's where America stands today.
-Black unemployment lowest in decades... -Most minority women, all rated by the ABA as qualified, appointed to the federal bench ever... -Pardons and clemency for hundreds of not thousands of low level offenders who've been stuck in federal prisons for years... -Overall unemployment lowest in 40 years... -US Dollar stronger than at any time in the last 50 years... -Stock market at historic, never before reached heights... -Lowest inflation rate in the developed world... -Violent crime rates declining across the country...
Problem free? Not at all.
Some pardons were horrible, the border was/is a mess and the Afghanistan exit was unforgivable. But our support for Israel has been epic, both in dollars and military intelligence. Our support for Ukraine has helped bleed Russia of both $$$ and people. Our economy is the envy of the world.
When Trump leaves office in Jan 2029, and he will, we should judge him on how well he improved, or failed to improve these metrics.
In any sane semblance of reality You Know Who would be in an orange jumpsuit marked DOC on the back.
But this nation ignorantly chose an insurrectionist, failed business flunky, a sexual predator assaulter, a pathological liar, a narcissistic sociopath, and in truth, a fatally flawed and insecure human form.
Elected Again. Following the truth being pointed out last time around. When there existed some guardrails. Corrupted scotus took care of removing those.
It is going to be a very rough ride going forward. Hopefully the remaining democracies give You Know Who>/i> the big middle finger. Very Often.
