More shootings today: Utah and Colorado

Charlie Kirk, a Conservative political activist, was shot and killed today.

I didn't say the words quoted below; Charlie Kirk did, and he firmly believed them.

I don't believe seeing Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two small children, get fatally shot is worth it. And probably his young widow doesn't either.

“I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.” -Charlie Kirk

In addition to Charlie Kirk, there was another school shooting today:

Sadly Shaw, no MAGA person will unilaterally condemn political violence. They will never say all political violence is wrong?

Why not? We can all guess why.

If you can, feel free to bring my other comment on this over from your previous post…

OT but important none the less. Charlie Kirk, with whom I frequently disagree, has been shot and died as a result of his injuries.

Right, left, conservative or liberal, anyone shooting a political rival is wrong in a free and democratic society. The shooter should be arrested, tried and if found guilty, sentenced in a court of law.

All political violence is wrong, be it vandalism, assault, shootings and more. All of it.

There should be no place in America for those who seek to divide our country using violence to promote their ideas or silence their critics. And any politician who cannot, or will not condemn all of the political violence we have seen in the United States recently does not deserve our respect, or the vote of the American people.

May God comfort the family of Charlie Kirk in this time.

Gotta be the guns fault. All of the hate of the right by the left had nothing to do with it. Yelling at anyone who disagrees with your views and attacking them in public, banning them from restaurants and referring them as nazi because they didn't like having someone who didn't believe what you believe. The inclusion party has shown their true self but after all it's the guns fault.

Dave, I will say all political violence is wrong. The issue is most political violence originates from the left so you are swatting at your own party. From magnificent maxine to tim walz who say attack anyone who differs from you. Don't forget the attacks on jews by left wing activists and antifa.
Where is all your media's outrage about the women stabbed on the bus. All you hear is crickets fro cnn, msnbc, abc, cbs, nbc.
"violence is wrong, be it vandalism, assault, shootings and more" Why are you so against federal soldiers protecting citizens. Why are you so against deporting illegals. Could it be you have been lied to.

skud, it is your biased OPINION, not backed up by any facts, that "most political violence originates from the left."

In fact, the opposite is true:

Left-Wing versus Right-Wing Extremism

Of these three ideologies, most prior research has contrasted those committed to right-wing and left-wing causes. Much of this research suggests that compared to left-wing extremists, right-wing extremists may be more likely to engage in politically motivated violence. In comparison to left-wing supporters, right-wing individuals are more often characterized by closed-mindedness and dogmatism (9) and a heightened need for order, structure, and cognitive closure (5). Because such characteristics have been found to increase in-group bias and lead to greater out-group hostility (10), violence for a cause may be more likely among proponents of right-wing ideologies. In contrast, in comparison to their right-wing counterparts, left-wing individuals score higher on openness to new experiences, cognitive complexity, and tolerance of uncertainty (5). They are also less likely to support social dominance (11), which could lead to their overall lower likelihood to use violence against adversaries."

SOURCE

And you posted a lie about Tim Walz "who say attack anyone who differs from you."

Tim Walz did not say "attack anyone who differs with you".

In fact, when condemning a politically motivated shooting in Minnesota in June 2025, he explicitly stated the opposite.

Here's what Walz actually said in that context:

"We don't settle our differences with violence or at gunpoint".

He championed civil discourse and compromise, citing recent collaboration in Minnesota's state legislature as an example.

He made it clear that all Minnesotans and Americans must "stand against all forms of political violence".

The false attribution of the phrase "attack anyone who differs with you" may be a mischaracterization or misinterpretation of other events or statements, but it does not accurately reflect Walz's recorded comments on political violence.

Your antisemitism statement is appalling. It isn't just from the Left. It's from the Right as well. It's an AMERICAN problem.

Did you conveniently forget Charlottesville and the right-wing marchers who yelled "JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US?":

"Numerous attacks against Jews have been perpetrated by individuals and groups with right-wing, white supremacist, and far-right extremist ideologies. These attacks include deadly mass shootings, assaults, and other forms of antisemitic harassment and violence.

Examples of right-wing antisemitic attacks
Mass shootings and violence

Pittsburgh Tree of Life synagogue (2018): A gunman with white supremacist views and a history of antisemitic posts killed 11 worshippers and wounded seven others during Shabbat services.

Poway synagogue (2019): An armed white nationalist opened fire inside a synagogue near San Diego, killing one woman and injuring three others.

Halle synagogue (2019): A far-right extremist in Germany attempted to carry out a mass shooting at a synagogue on Yom Kippur. After failing to breach the synagogue's doors, he killed two people nearby."

And if the media were to comment on every homicide committed in this country by homegrown, or otherwise, criminals, we'd be hearing about killings nonstop 24/7.

Just as a note, I didn't read anything from you or the -FJ, JoeCons about Melissa Hortman and her husband by a right-wing crazy.

Your question about not wanting federal troops marching into sovereign states and cities shows me that you have no understanding of "Posse Comitatus Act:

The Posse Comitatus Act is a federal law passed in 1878 that generally prohibits the use of the U.S. Army and Air Force for domestic law enforcement purposes, restricting their use in civilian policing to "execute the laws". The Act, which comes from the Latin phrase meaning "the power of the county," reflects the principle of keeping the military separate from civilian life and was a response to concerns about military overreach during the Reconstruction era. Exceptions exist where Congress or the Constitution explicitly authorize such use, such as the Coast Guard's law enforcement duties or in cases of insurrection or natural disaster, and the Act has loopholes regarding information sharing and indirect support to civilian agencies.

Should I assume you are okay when a Republican president flouts Constitutional law? Are you just a sunshine law abider who'll be okay with a president who makes his own decisions on which laws he'll/she'll obey?

There is no national emergency in Chicago or any other blue city or state.

Trump is playing the part of an authoritarian who is extracting vengeance on the Americans who didn't vote for him. Just like a good little weak tin-pot dictator would do.

In future, when you make statements from your biased perspective, please tell us so by stating it is your opinion.

I'm getting tired of having to correct your biased opinions that you post here.

I do have a life and other things to do.

The "inclusion party?" This is the Republican president talking about his fellow Americans in 2024 while seeking the presidency for the 2nd time:

TRUMP: “We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections,” Trump said toward the end of his speech, repeating his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. “They’ll do anything, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America and to destroy the American Dream.”

And this is Trump as president again referring to his fellow Americans:

TRUMP: "Every Democrat in Congress voted against the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ many fiercely criticizing the expected cuts it would bring to Medicaid. ‘They wouldn’t vote only because they hate Trump, but I hate them, too, you know?’ Trump said. ‘I really do. I hate them. I cannot stand them, because I really believe they hate our country.’

Talk about putting a target on every Democrat's back. He's telling his violence prone cultists that we Democrats HATE America! Imagine some unhinged, mentally disturbed right-winger listening to that and acting on it!

That's what the Republican Party did to this country!

Indeed Shaw, picking up after skud (aka fact checking their propaganda filled opinions) is akin to cleaning up after a pack of recently weaned puppies, a Sisyphean effort if there every was one. Actually any critters before potty training, it's not just puppies. At the dorm we just had the twilight howl influenced by the passing of a fire truck so all the puppies were vocalizing tonight so puppies are on the brain. I wanted to join but the memories of past doggos was just a bit much, especially today.

skud opined: "Where is all your media's outrage about the women stabbed on the bus. All you hear is crickets fro cnn, msnbc, abc, cbs, nbc."

Every podcaster I follow has talked about Iryna Zarutska and how the system failed both her and her attacker/killer. But hey skud, yes, please, by all means please use her death to further your attacks on a swathe of humans who disagree with you. By the way skud, she's exactly the sort of immigrant... oh wait, no. She's not Latino so she gets a pass.

For the record, I and many souls like me no longer listen to traditional media because once they caved aka refused to fact check the lies spewed by the FOTUS and then paid the extortion fees to remain on air we stopped watching. We get our news from sources not in the hip pocket of the current admin, thank you very much.

You keep nattering on about Maxine Waters who said we have to fight back, and she's correct. She also said (which you've conveniently ignored each time you use her name to further your ignorance) physical violence has no place in political discourse. Every Democratic Party member is on the record saying if not the exact same words (we aren't MAGA with matching hats and talking points) but the exact same sentiment, something you ignore skud.

The fact skud believes fighting back only means physical violence is more telling on them than anyone they attempt to smear with misquotes and innuendo. Do better skud. No rating as you failed this class. Again.

Every person I listen to has come out with a statement on the death of Mr. Kirk saying while we disagreed vehemently with is policies and beliefs no where in political discourse is there a place for physical violence. Joe My God, Digby, Meidas Touch, Brian Tyler Cohen, Monte Mader, Tizzyent, Under The Desk News, Belle of the Ranch... I could go on but you get the idea.

The only side calling fellow Americans not human is the GOP/MAGA.

The deaths won't stop here. The cult is primed to go off. Stay frosty and situationally aware because the retribution messages are flying fast and furious on the interwebz. Apparently me and mine are demons and must be eradicated for the good of the country. I just.... Anyway, I plan on walking in shadows for a while. Safer that way.

Charlie Kirk was a Trumpian influencer. You’d think he was some big wig head of state the way Trump has reacted to his death. Trump never even mentioned the murders of Minnesota Speaker of the House and her husband. No flags at half staff for them; and she was actually an elected officer of a major state. The killer was a right wing crazy with a list of liberals he wanted to assassinate!

Tonight, instead of being the consoler in chief, Trump fanned the flames of fear and hatred by accusing the Left of assassinating Kirk, without a shred of evidence. Law enforcement hasn’t caught the killer!!!

Trump is a disgrace.
