THE COMMIES ARE COMING! THE COMMIES ARE COMING!

And they're in Arizona!  The REPUBLICANS in the Arizona state legislature have passed a bill that would allow law enforcement agents to institute something the Communist and Nazi regimes of the past would be proud of.  The bill is awaiting the Republican governor's signature.

The bill would allow law enforcement agents to stop ANYONE (without probable cause) on the streets of Arizona who LOOKS like an illegal immigrant and ask him/her to show his/her papers to the officer.  Sound familiar?

"Vere are your papers!  And ve know vere you sister iz!

Imagine if President Obama had proposed this anti-American, unConstitutional piece of vile legislation (he never would have since he's a Constitutional scholar and would know better--unlike the fools in the Arizona legislature).

Just imagine the exploding heads all over FOX News, imagine Limbaugh erupting with the wrath of a thousand dittoheads, imagine Palin squealing about President Dictator. Michelle Bachmann?  She'd call for armed insurrection.  Glenn Beck would cry because he didn't think of it first.

Victoria Jackson?  She's too foolish to understand it at all.

The Tea Partiers would be calling for the Marxist, Commuinist, Socialists, Nazi, Kenyan's head on a pike.

Irony died a long time ago in this country. 

The Republicans, who relentlessly characterized our president as Commie-Nazi-Marxist, are the ones who came up with a piece of legislation that embodies all that those evil regimes stood for.

But  where are the aggrieved Tea Baggers on this antiAmerican, shameful tactic worthy of the Communists and Nazis?  Where were their signs last week protesting this REAL Commie push to intimidate and abrogate Arizonan's "freedoms?"


*crickets*

The Tea Partiers were too busy chasing after lies and misrepresentation about Mr. Obama to see the evil under their own noses.

"Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony compared aspects of the legislation, approved Monday (April 19) by the Arizona Senate, to "reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques whereby people are required to turn one another in to the authorities."

The Rev. Jim Wallis, founder and president of the anti-poverty group Sojourners, was among faith leaders calling for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to veto the legislation.

"This law is a social sin, and would make it illegal for the faith community of Arizona to extend God's love and charity to some of our most vulnerable neighbors," he said.


A dozen leaders from across Arizona, representing Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths, wrote Brewer, seeking her veto."

The Arizona bill will likely face an immediate Constitutional challenge because immigration law is the purview of the federal government and also because the Constitution protects people from search and seizure without probable cause.

Shaw, it is only socialism, communism, or any other ism, if you disagree with it.

Otherwise, it is sound policy, born out of frustration with a rapidly changing world.

Anything a Conservative government does is an exapansion of our freedoms and liberties...

Like one conservative commented on another blog, "...government's job is to protect us from the power of the state..."

I am generally opposed to restrictions on immigrations and on free trade. There are valid (i.e. non-racist) reasons to oppose both immigration and free trade, but racism does creep in at the edges too often.

For examples of racist views on both immigration and free trade, check out Pat Buchanan's columns.

I don't recall any exceptions being made in "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.". Nor is the there anything in the First Amendment to the Constitution to support any idea of English-only.

This law would be an abomination. I live in Phoenix and am embarrassed by this law and the recent law allowing any citizen over 21 to carry a concealed weapon (without any special license or competency). You are going to see a backlash against the state similar to the early 90's MLK holiday controversy. These morons are not going to see the light until their businesses start feeling the pinch:

This is an excellent piece, Shaw. I lived in AZ for a few years and it's a lovely state but, my God, some - not all - of the people must come from Mars. Especially in areas like Paradise Valley.

Someone had a home there painted in battleship gray. Needless to say it stuck out like a sore thumb in an area with adobe style architecture. There were horrible signs all over the place saying, "Do Not Enter" or "Proceed at Your Own Risk" and worse.

I read that piece on the Republican blog and posted it to my FB. Very interesting.

Jim, if Obamas actions as President have deprived people of rights [i asked on a couple of conservative sites for some actual specifics and I am still waiting for an actual response] and made him a Sociallist hellbent on taking away peoples rights so the gov't can control folks, where does this law stand on the continuum.

I may also add to Jim's comment that the immigration problem was just one more issue that the prvious administration left unfinished--like the two wars Mr. Obama inherited--and the immigration mess was just one more huge problem left for Mr. Obama to clean up after Bush's inept presidency.

The problem will not be solved in one year or two. Bush had EIGHT LONG, LONG years to address it, and all we got was a half-built wall.

Now other deperate border states are threatening to enact anti-freedom laws to deal with what Bush failed to do.

As part of the solution to the 'problem' of 'illegal' immigrants perhaps instead of the now tedious image of workers arrested, cuffed and led off to await deportation the arrest and imprisonment of the factory management responsible for abetting the 'illegal' activity would send a message.
